- TheRedeemer, on 07/15/2008, -7/+47Buried for being from MTV.
- and303, on 07/15/2008, -1/+37I can't be the only one that initially thought: "Why the hell would Heath Ledger's death effect the marketing of CD-Rs and blank tapes?".
- gogoma, on 07/15/2008, -3/+31Joker IS the movie in TDK. I'm not defending Warner Bros, but there is simply NO WAY to avoid such accusations when the JOKER is the primary character. To those who say Batman was the primary character prior to Ledger's death, you're simply wrong. The JOKER almost outshone Batman in Burton's film. Almost at par with each other.
- whamdanglers, on 07/15/2008, -0/+20I was trying to figure out the link between Heath Ledger and optical storage giant, TDK. And then I realized the Interwebs have applied yet another acronym to pop culture.
- hartley, on 07/15/2008, -1/+12Which is owned by Viacom.
Which is run by Satan himself. - Tyrghast, on 07/15/2008, -1/+11TDK > TDK
- HappyScrappy, on 07/15/2008, -2/+10Oh yes, of course. Once Ledger died, they decided it'd be important that people see the film. Before that, the marketing department wasn't really all that concerned that people want to go out and see it.
Can we see an end to this stream of spammy drivel any time soon? - toenexx, on 07/15/2008, -1/+9I just want to watch the movie... yes, its unfortunate he died but it's not the reason I'm watching it nor is it going to affect me seeing him on the screen. Batman is my favorite superhero, and I can't wait to see the next installment to my favorite superhero movie.

- Murdats, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7I am glad I dont watch tv anymore, I watch tv shows, but without the ads.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5Why the ***** wouldn't Ledger want TDK released???
Also, WB hardly exploited his death, they tried to tone down the links between his death and the film, if you'll remember the news of them removing the shot of joker in a body bag.
Ledger wasn't jesus, him being in a film isn't sacrilege, people need to calm down about this. - hartley, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6I know its affected it enough to where I see a Dark Knight story on the front page of digg almost every day.
- nitr, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4my thoughts exactly!
- darny, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3the joker did outshine batman in the first film.
- JamJosh, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3There's no such thing as bad publicity...especially if you include Rocket Fuel Malt Liquor.
So when you're rockin' to the movie theater remember to tighten up your flow with ROCKET FUEL MALT LIQUOR...DAMN!!!!! - dexaroni, on 07/15/2008, -2/+4I'm just hoping that people don't try to give Ledger awards he doesn't deserve, that would be an insult to his memory. He was an amazing actor that died before his time, and I am really looking forward to seeing his performance in this movie. I find it horrible that companies would try to exploit a persons death to make a buck... as if the movie wasn't going to make enough as is.
- tofur, on 07/15/2008, -2/+4Where did you get you information? From what I have been told from the Warner reps, nothing has changed in the film due to Heath's death, just the marketing. Stop reading the conspiracy sites.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -2/+4Can we go one day on digg without hearing about the dark knight and having long discussions about ledgers death? Please?
- Chompy, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1How'd I get dugg down? Are TDK's producers diggers? I thought producers didn't have time for that sort of thing, what with all the cocaine, hookers, and power lunches.
- Kevin108, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2To me, the death of a Hollywood pretty boy doesn't particularly matter one way or the other. I was actually made slightly less likely to see Brokeback Batman because of him being in it. If anything, his death should raise awareness that you should be careful when taking prescription medications.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2Ummm, I think he saw it when they were filming it...
- Tyrghast, on 07/15/2008, -2/+3Didn't a Dark Knight trailer appear before Transformers and didn't the first 15 minutes get leaked not long after? Considering everyone in the damn world saw the Transformers movie, I'd say we've all been psyched since last summer. Ledgers death may have phased us a little, and TDK's marketing campaign in the last few months may have been a bit over the top, but I'm not seeing this movie because of anything that's happened between that first trailer and now.
I loved Batman Begins, I'm going to love The Dark Knight. I grew up reading the Batman comics and watching the excellent Batman-Superman cartoon show (an hour of the greatest superheroes every saturday! and I hate to admit this but I loved the futuristic batman cartoon and the justice league cartoon that followed) and will be seeing this movie no matter what. - Shugii, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2Great...
- darny, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2This article is a waste of time. The title is misleading. I can sum up the article for you: they considered changing the marketing approach after his death, but ultimately left it alone.
Fodder. Waste of time. Hollow. Buried. - oozoo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1hmmm a marketing article this neither mentions the marketing company or advertising agency. great journalism mtv.
- eTevin, on 12/07/2008, -0/+0I agree with the comment above me. At least Heath's final performance did him justice. Unlike Soul Man for Bernie Mac...
http://www.bankruptcytomillionaire.com/blog - darkphenox, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1yes I'm surprised at how long it took them or any other show to do a rick roll.
- Chompy, on 07/15/2008, -3/+2Ledger may or may not have wanted the film to be released, but that is a non-issue for the film's producers.
Let me translate for you: "The thing that is most appropriate is to get it out there so that as many people can see it" actually means "The thing that is most appropriate is to do whatever we can to maximize the amount of money that goes into our pockets". - Adgeman, on 07/15/2008, -7/+5I think the Marketing is harming the film; at this point I'm sick of seeing adverts which are so tenuous e.g. the pizza one with a delivery person fighting the Joker's minions to deliver the pizza. The other with the father getting home to his new place in Gotham with some random mention of the Joker. All very classless; from all I read the film's good enough to stand out without the tactless campaigns.
- diggadigga, on 07/15/2008, -6/+4"As the film community mourned, rumors began spreading that Nolan and Warner Bros. would alter their marketing plans for the film, shifting the focus onto their other criminal, Aaron Eckhart's Two-Face. But ultimately — as evidenced by everything from billboards to action figures to viral-marketing techniques that had the Joker defacing Web sites and arranging mysterious meet-ups — the focus remained predominantly on Ledger's madman."
This was my reaction http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m293/davidjungc ... - Xihix, on 07/15/2008, -12/+9I remember seeing the prologue back in December when I went to see I Am Legend. You only saw six minutes of his performance, but I knew from then on that it was going to be an amazing one. I have yet to see it, but judging from the reviews of the film, it seems that it may just be worth at least an Oscar nomination. I've also heard great things of Eckhart's work, and Bale's (though, that's no surprise).
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -7/+2It's all about the money.
- MacroDaemon, on 07/15/2008, -11/+6Passing away isn't generally the term I'd use for suicide.
- txsln, on 07/14/2008, -12/+5I used to wonder which was creepier: Heath Ledger's performance in TDK or Warner Bros. exploitation of it. But this article made me think otherwise. I believe releasing the movie is what Heath would have wanted.
- jordanlgta, on 07/15/2008, -9/+2Rick Roll video just got shown on The Daily Show. It'll likely be the number one story on digg Tuesday. You heard it here first!
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -12/+3Absolutely sucks that Heath never got to see his full amazing performance, sadly ironic in a way
- GottaBeTheJuice, on 07/15/2008, -10/+1Well, since Heath Ledger died, they changed some of the movie. They shifted it from being a more Batman oriented film, and leaned it over towards Heath Ledger being the star.
For example, the extra shots that were filmed that included Heath Ledger, were added to the film. Thus, the result being Heath Ledger having more minutes on screen. - BrandonB1218, on 07/15/2008, -14/+4That says VH1 you douche.
Edit: I guess I'm the douche, it says MTV networks at the bottom. Digg me down! - Chainheart, on 07/15/2008, -17/+3***** off, Bury Brigade.
- selmer, on 07/14/2008, -21/+3Basically, its effect was the same as Bush's to our economy. In ***** oppositeworld.
