THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!
http://thisisspartaaa.ytmnd.com/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25I cannot wait to see this movie ^^
Countin down the days... - dziban303, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Roman spartan?
You idiot. - MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18TONIGHT! WE DINE IN HELL!
- StinkyPete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15King Xerxes...
I think we use his copy machines at work... - ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@EmailAddress
The film is based on a comic book, which is a work of fiction. - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Awww, you Star Wars fans worried that someone is going to steal some of your thunder?
- shirtninjay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Well, I saw this movie already at a special screening here in San Diego and I must say that it was pretty bad-ass with all of the gore and boobies.
Gore and boobies FTW. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15a matter of tastes i'd say
- str3ama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10my friend was in the movie, he was a stunt double for the Persian Immortals. From what he told me, the major scene which takes place in between two canyons was shot in Montreal on a closed set and just about everything is digitally rendered. They all had to wear the masks and full uniform initially, but as the day went on they only wore the masks and the rest was to be added in digitally. They basically duplicated the same 35 or so stunt doubles and had them do various moves which were put together for the big final battle sequence. He signed an NDA, so I couldn't get more info out of him about the story line, it's apparently based more off of a comic then the actual battle - which is about the battle of Thermamopolye where 300 greek soldiers stood up to 250,000 Persia soldiers. The Greeks were all killed after 8 days of fighting, I have no clue what happens in the movie but I think they exxagerate the 250,000 to 1 million
- PedleZelnip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Dude, it's a movie. Take a deep breath and read the definition of the word "fiction".
- shirtninjay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Are you drooling because you like to see 300 more-than-half-naked men?
- ArchonSG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Persian : "Our arrows will block out the sun!"
Spartan : /shrugs "So we'll fight in the shade."
You have to admit, that line is right up there with :
German commander : "We have you surrounded...blah blah blah...demand your immediate surrender. What is your reply?"
American commander : "Nuts." - IdelosIX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8For the record, in history the "300" were slaughtered after being betrayed by some farmer that knew the lay of the land. So they didn't really "win". The victory was in the fact that the rest of the greeks were able to retreat and form up.
edit: sardon1c beat me to it. - Stonekeeper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9The trailer is amazing:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/
Hope it's as good as that. - robdiggity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Pressfield's "Gates of Fire" is incredible. If you have interest in this story, start there.
- iam413x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I figured people might want to see this since it is relevant.
http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?name=movies&id=1553704&vid=136403
The battle was one of the most epic tales in history, you'd think it would be more popular than stories about Troy. - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Tell them in Lacedaemon, passer-by
Obedient to our orders, here we lie." - buba447, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I smell a film snob.
I haven't seen the movie, so i can't judge; But once I read "Anyway if you're 10-years-old this film is made for you. Go. Enjoy it. Then one day, hopefully, you'll grow out of films like this and move on to Kubrick or Peckinpah." I knew that there was no chance you could ever like this movie...... - Matt-lars, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie.
- Photokon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's the NIN music that makes trailer one so damn mesmerizing.
- PedleZelnip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5March 9th
- AimlessAbyss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This movie looks frickin' amazing. I'm hoping to see it opening weekend at the IMAX in Vancouver. Gerard Butler (who says "Tonight we dine in hell!" in the trailer) just appeared on the Tonight Show. He's actually a pretty guy in person and he said he had to wax/shave all his body hair off (except his head I guess). I'm sure this will be #1 for a long time and make well over $150 million. I want to read the graphic novel, also by Frank Miller.
- aserer511, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4personally I'd love to see more epic pre-fire arm battles and campaigns made into film. to me, troy was great
- morsecoder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Mehrpadin isn't making the most calm and considered argument, but you've got to question the timing on this. A film about a great "western" power going to war with the ugly "Persians" (Iranians to the uninformed) should be questioned if only for the amazing coincidence it represents.
Also, am I the only one amazed at how the trailers for this successfully vilify the multicultural Persian army in comparison to the "white" Spartan army? - datcrazydj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5http://thisisbadlyeditedeyes.ytmnd.com/
This is SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! - shirtninjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great trailer, but if you're going to watch the movie, try not to analyze the trailer or watch it over and over again. It kinda spoils some parts. (I already saw the movie at a screening, then I went home to watch the trailer again because I liked the movie so much.)
- uttles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Disturbed by the pro war sentiment?
Man, I guess we should rewrite history so it doesn't make you piss your pants. Stop being such a piece of *****, seriously. - theoreticalk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Blah blah blah, Kubrick and Peckinpah. Listen, everyone knows Kubrick is probably the greatest director of all time, but dammit man, there is a time and place for movies that are pure Popcorn Movie material.
Snob. Go watch Barry Lyndon and weep. - metalgod79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Transformers.... come on, 300 looks light years ahead of that michael bay bastardization of our fav childrens cartoon.
- ckedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ah crap, a graphic novel?
Okay, should I read the graphic novel then see the movie, or see the movie and then read the graphic novel?
Or maybe I should be asking this in a weeks time. - kelbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There were only 300 spartans. And a couple thousand of their shieldbearers. Plus a few thousand from other cities fighting elsewhere on the battlefield.
Definitely not 300. But still, a ***** ridiculous battle. - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8I'm waiting for the comic book and Hollywood adaptation of Al-Qaeda... which should be coming out in a couple thousand years...
... should feature some compelling romance, martial arts, and serious action!!
yes I am being sarcastic-- 300 looks like super-*****. - sardon1c, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Did you fail history class?
There were also about 700 Thespians fighting with the 300 Spartans. And they eventually LOST.
But it's still inspiring. - AimlessAbyss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think you should see the movie first, then read the comic book. I think it will make more sense after you see the movie.
- Klitzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2See the movie first...
- LaughingMan11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1str3ama :
Leonidas and the 300 Spartans held off the Persian army for 3 days before being slaughtered, according to the graphic novel anyway. The movie will probably very closely mirror the graphic novel, which is also a GREAT read.
This should be some kind of awesome though. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2More popular than Troy? Have you read greek and roman literature? EVERYTHING is based off of the Trojan Wars.
Awesome link though. - iamafatguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just got back from a sneak preview of 300, and it was a great movie. I don't know how historically accurate it is, nor do I care. I don't know what type of political statement it is supposed to be making, nor do I care. I went in hoping for a great cinematic experience, and that's what I got.
ymmv. - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7I think some people need a little education in Spartan history...
Pederasty was the norm, gay sex was the norm for both males and females (including pederasty for the gals).
Here is a good primer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spartan_pederasty
It's kind of funny to see so many people "pumped-up" for this movie... - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The scenes in this movie look to be to die for. I can't wait. Then 7/4/7 we get the Transformers. Finally we are seeing good movies after a long break. Oh yea, go see the departed if you haven't already.
- str3ama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1look up the origins of the word Merde
I once read that Napolean when completely outnumbered and basically defeated at Waterloo .. he took his sword and stabbed his lieutenant and muttered "Merde" - tehpwnerofn00bs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For the history buffs: the History Channel (i know, "the history channel"? wtf!?!) did a really good program on Thermopylae (get the spelling right n00bs). You all should try and find it.
- screamokid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2victory??? didn't they lose?
- ichbinladen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uttles I bet you are the ugliest ***** alive. You've never been laid, you're never gonna be laid. (unless you are literally a Mother-*****.)
- LaughingMan11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, I've seen the trailer, and I went ahead and read the graphic novel, so I'm not too afraid of being spoiled. I'm in it for the visceral aspect of the experience.
- blitzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What he actually said was 'sh*t'.
- BloodyDischarge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah Kubrick, when's his next movie coming out? Oh wait, he's dead. BTW Kubrick ruined a few movies of his own, Eyes Wide Shut? You bet, during the whole movie.
- mcottier, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Does anyone know the release date of this movie?
- lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think they said that about his 2001 project when it first hit the streets. Lets talk in 10yrs or so.
