- mongo22, on 11/22/2008, -1/+118This is getting old, especially with the state of the economy.
- MrSmith34, on 11/22/2008, -6/+112wait, so there's troops in Iraq & Afganistan; the stock market has crashed, banks are failing, automotive big three are going broke, mortgage industry is sucking, unemployment has gone skyrocketed, retirement funds have been plundered. ...and why do I care about this?
- bixby1, on 11/22/2008, -3/+83Jesus Christ. I work in the entertainment business and the writers strike bent me over a barrel. As a SAG member, I'm not voting for this and I know many of my friends won't either. There's just too much to lose.
- Steeple, on 11/23/2008, -4/+57spend a day as a nurse and then whine about your job, actor boys
- davidjunit, on 11/23/2008, -2/+51Film Actors Guild
- praisethelard, on 11/23/2008, -3/+43Hint: A great majority of actors are not famous and not multimillionaires.
- heero101086, on 11/23/2008, -10/+45So the writers might not have been getting paid as much as they should have... OK.
AREN'T ACTORS GETTING PAID MORE THAN ENOUGH! - Lucifugerising, on 11/23/2008, -11/+40Actors are greedy mother *****.
I understand the writers strike, but seriously gimme a break. - Ewingo401, on 11/23/2008, -0/+28I found that I could live without a lot of my "favorite" shows during the writers strike of last year. If the actors do indeed go on strike and cause another delay of another television season I may just find that I don't need to watch TV at all anymore.
- imasuperDOTcom, on 11/23/2008, -0/+28So awesome.
This reminds me of those Anti-Piracy commericals they were showing at the beginning of movies in the theatres for a while. You remember don't you? "You may think stealing movies doesn't hurt anyone......But it does. The lighting Crew... the makup artists... [insert peon crew member title here]"
What a bunch of BS that was. Maybe if they weren't paying the blockbuster starts 20 million a movie, and the director 15 million, they'd be able to pay everyone else a little more.
What a crock. Hollywood blows. - deleo, on 11/23/2008, -0/+28Actually 75% of the members of SAG aren't working right now. They are actors who were maybe in a movie or TV show a couple of years ago but they haven't worked since. They are the ones who want the strike because they lose nothing if a strike happens. They aren't working anyways so they lose no income. The vast majority of actors who are working and making a lot of $ right now definitely don't want a strike.
- liquisoft, on 11/23/2008, -1/+23SAG seems to think that actors are the only ones affected by these strikes. They're wrong. There are way more people involved in making entertainment than just the actors, and when the actors are on strike nobody can work. SAG needs to get a clue.
- Jo9100, on 11/23/2008, -0/+22We were just getting back to normal after the WGA strike... :(
- wunksta, on 11/23/2008, -2/+23MATT DAMON
- CurlyHayami, on 11/23/2008, -5/+26...wow, a couple million a movie isn't enough?!
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -3/+23God Dammit. Another 3-4 month Hollywood delay?
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -1/+21Unemployment has gone skyrocketed!
- bradspry, on 11/23/2008, -0/+19Dear Hollywood,
Please make something worth a *****.
Thank you,
Movie Lovers - SemiSarcastic, on 11/23/2008, -2/+21THINK ABOUT THE ACTORS!
- Lucifugerising, on 11/23/2008, -1/+15stop being logical
- Floyder, on 11/23/2008, -2/+15- "hey! we want some of that money!"
- "What money?"
- "That....Internet money...ya! the Internet money, buddy!"
- "I'm not your buddy, guy!" - leamanc, on 11/23/2008, -0/+12Isn't $50,000 over five years more like $10,000 per year?
I know you said "slightly less," but you'd have to drop all the way down to $25,000 to average $5,000 per year. - Doofy, on 11/23/2008, -7/+19"You try living on $5,000 a year. "
And if they paid $1 day, they'd still be lining up to audition on the hopes of someday becoming a "star".
Actors = attention whores.
Nobody "has" to be an actor. Get a real job. - calypsoschnitzl, on 11/23/2008, -0/+12x2, I'm not SAG, but I work in the industry in California... They don't realize that there are 500 persons working behind every actor, and when they strike, these 500 are out of work.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -2/+14This just in: Pirates around the world have announced a sympathy strike.
More when we get it. - fizban, on 11/23/2008, -4/+15You think every actor you see on the screen is making a couple million?
- default45, on 11/23/2008, -5/+16I thought they were the Famous Actors Guild...
- RenovatioInc, on 11/23/2008, -1/+12How about a viewers' strike?
- poidh, on 11/23/2008, -2/+13I wish they would just ***** work. We had to miss out on Battlestar Galactica and 24 this year because of union demands.
- okyourturn, on 11/23/2008, -4/+14i find it hard to feel sorry for these people... if i don't get to see the office i will be ***** pissed.
- Steeple, on 11/23/2008, -1/+11the ones people don't have interest in seeing?
a compelling actor can ask for the moon, but no one owes an actor a living wage, they have to be worth it in a market place - Mujokan, on 11/23/2008, -0/+10Only a tiny proportion of them are rich celebrities. Most of them don't make much. But their timing sucks here. The studios will be playing hardball, given the state of the economy.
- Lucifugerising, on 11/23/2008, -2/+12Think of the yachts man, think of the yachts!!!
- drexl, on 11/23/2008, -0/+9Wow. I have a friend that's been in three or four national ads, a couple of shorts, and one major motion picture and he's made almost as much as you. Things really picked up for him when he got an agent that's worth a damn.
- Rivetgeek, on 11/23/2008, -4/+13Protip: most of them aren't very good actors.
- imasuperDOTcom, on 11/23/2008, -1/+9only part of that movie I liked.
That and "MATT DAMON". I still repeat that occasionally at work when I want to appear totally lost. - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+8And when they come back there won't be any work for them. They're just screwing themselves
- Georgy, on 11/23/2008, -5/+13Before people starting saying that Will Smith earns enough money, there are thousands of actors and actresses in hollywood who probably deserve better pay
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+8More reality shows and prime time games shows......YAY!
/sarcasm - taestell, on 11/23/2008, -1/+8Any type of union probably needs to refrain from increasing their demands for the next year or so.
- SilverBlade2k, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6We have to go through this *again*?
Try working at a restaurant job serving customers for minimum wage... - psevium, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6If they only have one line in a film/tv show, they should have another full time job. Obviously working one hour a year is never going to amount to a sustainable fulltime job
- Xihix, on 11/23/2008, -3/+9LA lost a ***** load of money because of the Writers Strike. This involves the economy as well.
- Steeple, on 11/23/2008, -1/+7heh, i date one, just saying if you want a vanity job (sports, actor, entertainment) instead of getting your hands dirty, you gotta take the risks and sacrifices involved
- ignacious, on 11/23/2008, -2/+8God Damn it, was just about to get my card...
Some Actors do make a lot of money, but it isn't about actors making more money off of you, it is about Execs not taking everything from everywhere. So money that seems due to the actors, should go to them. Same fight the WGA had. But I tell you, most of those 150,000 represented make about 800$ a year (one line on a TV show or film), then pay 2,400 a year to SAG to fight for this nonsense. - Steeple, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6...no one owes them a living, be an actor or don't, but don't whine if you can't make a go of it
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6Unions don't care about anything other then the union.
- linagee, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6At least we still have youtube for entertainment.
- spookyttws, on 11/23/2008, -3/+9As much as I support their right to residuals and proper payment for proper work including DVD and online work, come on. One union ***** us over last year, and now another is going to this year? The economy is hurting everyone, and I know it's it seems really trivial, but after a hard days work, and a draining bank account, there is something uplifting to escape with a new episode of Lost, or a movie I have been meaning to see. It may be lame but in hard times the actors don't need this and the viewers don't need this.
- andrewthrice, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6Sirens in the background...
