- Janv1er, on 10/20/2008, -0/+12Has anyone noticed the 'Kid's laughing/giggling' it's ALWAYS the same.
- JAGUART, on 10/20/2008, -0/+9I like the history of the scream, but when I hear it, it pulls me right out of the film I'm watching.
- Regulator980, on 10/20/2008, -3/+12For Your Consideration - The Wilhelm Scream Compilation
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YDpuA90KEY - QsheiK, on 10/20/2008, -0/+9I want to know where the Tom and Jerry scream came from.
- brstilson, on 10/20/2008, -0/+8I've also noticed that whenever they have someone playing a video game in a movie, no matter how advanced or primitive it is, they use the sounds from the Atari 2600 version of Pac Man.
- tehShane, on 10/20/2008, -0/+6Hah, I actually only heard of it for the first time whilst looking up movie trivia on imdb.com.
I've since heard of this in so many places.
It's weird how that happens. - diggnidy, on 10/20/2008, -0/+5there is also the door squeaking in thousands of films and games like farcry etc
anyone else noticed that? - NextGenXbox, on 10/20/2008, -4/+9Funny, we were talking about this today while editing our new movie.
- HaoleTech, on 10/20/2008, -3/+7It's great to hear that it's “a tribute” and it's got origins and history but it take you out of the scene and sounds forced. It’s the same regurgitated recording, not original.
What's the other re-used female scream?
What do film school and professionals think about these reused screams and the like? - MickJT, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4It's called "Gut-wrenching Scream And Fall Into Distance"
- KaJuN4, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4Imma chargin mah wilhelm scream!
- Javlington, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4I've been looking out for that fire whip sound, and the star craft "YURAAA" scream. I don't think they have names, but they appear in so many films and games.
- MickJT, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3The "Gut-wrenching Scream And Fall Into Distance" is a much better scream in my opinion.
- cplex, on 10/20/2008, -2/+5OLD news.
- rmmcclay, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3And then there's the Australian kookaburra who's call has been used in countless jungle films.
Found this 36 second video of a kookaburra being held by a handler and making the call which is pretty cool.

Aaaauugh! - j3rm1981, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3My wife thought I was _nuts_ when I said "I've heard that scream in other films!"
- timusca, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3I can't believe how fast I remembered that scream in my head.
- HaoleTech, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2i thiught i was the only one that felt this way.
- aecorn, on 10/20/2008, -6/+8OLD!
Seen this on Digg twice before ;P
This sound effect is in almost all movies now... I just saw it in Kung Fu Panda hehe... - sifeliz, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2I think the Fay Wray scream is way more overused.
- EricAnderton, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2::looks at paul shaffer::
*wilhelm scream* - oxymoron69, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2Who the ***** are you!?
Get the ***** out of here with your spamming *****, nobody wants to look at your garbage anyway you piece of *****! - AlrightForNow, on 10/20/2008, -1/+3Forget the Wilhelm Scream, everybody should go listen to A Wilhelm Scream, then your lives will be complete.
- tehShane, on 10/20/2008, -1/+3Morrowind. 'nuff said.
- zephc, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2I've been wondering about it forever too - it seems the stars have finally aligned, because here is what I've found (before reading this thread):
http://www.freewebs.com/notthewilhelmscream/histor ... - QsheiK, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1http://www.tomandjerryonline.com/sounds/ow2.wav
- fluxion, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1@3:30
- sifeliz, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1Oh, you've probably heard it.
- ophello, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1Never heard of it...is it still way more overused?
- alexhouse, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1Anakin's friends, episode 1.
- threedaysatsea, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1There's also this very distinct police chatter soundbyte that I hear in pretty much every "WORLD'S MOST EXTREME POLICE... CHEESEBURGER...... PARACHUTES"
It was in SimCity, too. It's a woman saying something like "Great balls one one fourty eight nine five", but I can't imagine that's actually what she was saying. - groonk, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1 BoingBoing reported on this 2 years ago. http://www.boingboing.net/2006/11/29/wilhelm-screa ...
sidenote: the wonderful series The Middleman wouldn't let an episode pass without using, *obviously* using, the Wilhelm Scream at least once. - morphinapg, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1I've used it in my movie that I made. It's tough to find a place to put it where it wouldn't be completely obvious to the normal movie watcher, but Wilhelm fans would notice and get a few laughs out of.
- imakeartwork, on 10/20/2008, -6/+7its so lame that the sound techs think they're being clever when they put that god awful sound in a movie. Every time i hear it i lose a little respect for the movie i'm watching.
- MickJT, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1As far as I know it goes back to Rollercoaster Tycoon?
- Jtom08, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1Dugg for Nitro Records
- TheHim, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1There's also this often used, and actually fairly ridiculous sounding, female scream. I've heard it several times in Heroes, both Claire and Nikki "used" it. I've even heard it in a video game.
Also the witch's laugh in Lamentation Sword (RPG) reappeared in a clothing commercial where it got attributed to a happy woman on the beach. Starcraft (1) used several common sounds.
I wonder if there's some big sound library where people license these from. They get recycled constantly. - timusca, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_scream#Histor ...
- isukeyo, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1Further proof the virtually everything that comes out of Hollywood is a collection of rehashed material!
- aecorn, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1It would be nice if the old stories actually did reappear somehow, instead of someone resubmitting it...
I don't mind the elections, and I don't even live in the US. I agree on it becoming a soap, but that's only because it focuses on a handful of people instead of issues. - oxymoron69, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1agreed, it's also continually used to this day in other media.... like xbox 360 games.
everytime I hear that damn scream it makes me laugh how overused it is. - feeboo, on 11/03/2008, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vW0zyZKEh3c
10 seconds in - Ksimir, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_818rcC0DA&feature ...
here you go :) - inactive, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1It was in Starwars: The force unleashed video game is well. It was in a cutscene where one of the guys falls off of a transport. Desert transport I believe (one of those hovering things the enemies are on in the game).
- burstaneurysm, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1I liked the inexpensive reenactment.
- honeybrass, on 10/20/2008, -2/+2Your comment is boring, I don't care if it is old, haven't seen it before, glad to have something not related to elections appear, or would you just like another story about those. The election is just a ***** soap opera, GET OUT OF MY HEAD!! Aaaauuuuuggghhhhh!!!
- timusca, on 10/20/2008, -2/+2Please tell me that's Battletoads. That would make my day.
- socialexpert, on 10/20/2008, -2/+2I haven't actually seen the movie but i just think it is Garry Cooper (main character) that made the scream.
