- swoopdog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+50I watched the first season thanks to BitTorrent I dont even own a TV.
I dont see the difference since you can watch them all on NBC.COM I just dont like laggy streaming stuff.
Heroes + Torrents = Awesome - Rizin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+48I Support HEROES which is why now that the DVD is out i have deleted my torrent version and bought the DVD, thats my own personal rule
- secretrk1313, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29I like your style man, very honest and promising
- Foamator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20IQ of 180? I wish more people would listen to him.
- reed311, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Well, the difference is NBC.com shows ads which pays the salaries of those who created and worked hard on the show. The torrents give no money to anyone who worked on the show.
- abid786, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12The difference is that when you watch it on nbc.com, they probably get ad revenue, which they obviously don't get when you download it using bittorrent.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Bitch, please. We do what we want.
- Sifl, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Yes, but I never pay any attention to commercials. I usually hit the mute button or fast forward if I'm watching it on my DVR. Am I a thief?
- Craga89, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Heroes is awesome. I downloaded the 1st season through bittorrent and then watched it air on Channel 4 here in the UK. I am now the owner of the season 1 box set.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Why not just put out legal torrents with advertisements? People would watch them... most of us are too lazy to fast forward. I guess they make more money suing other people... ***** up world
- enginbeering, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8There's a censored version of entourage?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8True but networks should take advantage of bittorrent and figure out a way to profit from it. I got a few ideas...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I do the same.
- Markpdotcom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7In the UK dickwad, not the USofA!
- mithi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I am showing my love to heroes and Hiro, It's awesome!
- KyjL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Serious question:
How the ***** can that possibly be implemented in a manner that won't make you go screaming back to PirateBay? - jasonj75, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Or
1 - Allow people to DL the show on any client they choose
2 - Partner with Google to place geographic specific commercial breaks based on IP address, some people will cut the commercials, most won't. I know I wouldn't bother as long as the commercials weren't obnoxious or overly lengthy. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Here's what networks SHOULD do.
1. Develop a Bittorent Client that can read DRM Torrents that only it can use. The client could have ads that encourages people to buy season dvds from the network.
2. Official Episodes can include sponsor ads that can't be cut out easily.
3. Episodes DO NOT use any DRM, just the torrent. And they can be burned to DVD or watched in the users own preferred video player.
4. And not charge for the videos. Let the sponsors and ads pay for it. - scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I downloaded the whole first season from torrents, but will buy the DVD if it has extra features. I've already paid something to watch it, because the BBC bought the rights to show it, and I have a TV licence.
- h4mx0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5A true hero.
- ChzPlz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Pretty sure that alternative isn't available outside of the US.
- samadam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Most people aren't lazy enough to write "ppl" too.
- carpespasm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4he speaks fluent english normally, and i don't even think he's japanese. From what i understand he went through voice training to do the bad japanese accent well.
- yujie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Maybe Sylar would support BitTorrent
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5The only reason i watched joey and entourage when the came on local tv was because i had already seen it using bittorrent. the censored version is absolutely ***** and because i have seen the uncensored version of enoturage i end up watching the one that is aired on TV too.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Your use of "ppl" indicates you like to lynch people with high IQ's.
- Kyouto, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4What evuh!
- manzk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Um Heroes was never aired on Channel 4.....only Sci-fi and BBC2 as far as i know
- indraneel24, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You could: watch it on TV, watch in on NBC.com, Torrent it, or Buy the DVD. I've Yatta(!)-d them all, except for buying the DVD.
- moocow1452, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Something tells me if the Heroes DVD doesn't sell as well as it's supposed to, next season Hiro will fall into a plot-hole outside the space/time continuum all together and never be seen or heard from again.
- Koldkompress, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That's actually a good point - is it legal to download and watch BBC series like Doctor Who if we have a TV License?
- kinseyincanada, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you actually watched joey?????
- mightytribble, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Masi Oka is a massive geek. He was a CS major before he went into acting - it's no big surprise he understands the value of bittorrent. ;)
- noblepaladin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No. People who are really smart know well enough to avoid politics.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2no boobies and they dont even say *****. hell half the story is lost because it. BTW the cesored version is shown on HBO Asia. No idea if they do it else where too.
- dakboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2We finally found the one person who watched it enough to keep the ratings high enough for it to stay on the air!
- neondiet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I downloaded most of the first season for me and my other half. First time I've ever done that, but I figured I was ok for two reasons. 1) It's already been on Sky and I would have watched it then except (I think) my dish is slightly out of alignment (been getting worse over time) and some channels exhibit corruption on both the screen and sound. Heroes was unwatchable. 2) It's now showing on BBC2 (via Sky) with no adverts, so I figure I've already paid for this (Sky subscription) and I'm not depriving anyone of advertising revenue.
We probably could have waited, but it's such an addictive program and we HAD to find out what happened next. The other night we had a choice: go to the movies or stay in and watch 4 x Heroes episodes back to back. No contest - she made the popcorn and I got the wine :-) - Cayfox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I haven't checked whether NBC does this, but many broadcasters who stream their content in this way do an IP check on connecting clients and refuse if they're from outside the country. Although this could be easily thwarted with proxies, who wants to watch live broadcasts in another timezone anyhow? People in the know will just reach for BitTorrent.
Also, I don't see how NBC loses out here: French downloaders are clearly not the target audience of their commercials, and probably don't have access to many of the products advertised. They neither generate nor take revenue away from the broadcaster or their sponsors. Unless you consider getting something for free as stealing whether it costs the owner anything or not... In which case, you better pay attention during the commercials and don't even think about leaving that couch, mister :) - LtXenodite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No, he's Japanese. He was born in Tokyo. And Juke, if you ever watch Heroes, you should know that Masi Oka speaks great English, as you can see when Future Hiro is talking.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=k3pVihzFnJc - Aokami, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They've been on Veoh tv for a while too.. there are commercial interrupts but totally better than no Heroes at all
- Dagreenman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2iq 180? Can Masi Oka be president?
- LtXenodite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Expanding on your statement:
Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber - Plato - Monk22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i thought it was a good show till the "its all about love" speech given at the end. that has to be the biggest pile of steaming ***** ive ever seen
- Stratochief66, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1More like so many 'loadngs'. They can't tell if I walked away from the computer during the ad or muted and read digg, but at least they can tell my computer loaded it. How can they tell how many people watched the ad on TV?
- injury0314, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Probably not. I think they have an IQ ceiling for that nowadays.
- slylikeafox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Just a quick bio since you don't think he could be that smart:
"He graduated from Brown University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and mathematics."
"Landed his first job after graduation at Industrial Light & Magic, George Lucas's motion picture visual special effects company"
"His first major project was co-developing a computer program to generate water effects, which was first used for A Perfect Storm but also used in later films such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. He later created programs for computational fluid dynamics and surface-tracking, which also became used in multiple projects. He has also worked on the Star Wars prequel trilogy"
Also, the fact that he has an IQ of 180 was cited from a New York Times article.
More info available here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masi_Oka - Koldkompress, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Faster bandwidth, no chance of being sued. Episodes provided as soon as possible, from after the episode airs. I would gladly watch legal torrents then watch illegal ones, then buy the DVD set later.
I've done it with 24, House, Heroes and Lost. - Monk22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1no joke, "its all about love" what a ***** cop out. i mean jesus, everything exciting always happened between the shows and we just got to see them standing around talking about all the crazy ***** that happened. LAAAZY
- Monk22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1shes the most trivial character on the show.
