Why Michael Bay, why?! :( - elcidcannon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Enough with the new-age tomfoolery. I want the old-school transformers back that were big and clunky and just plain kicked ass.
- orenthal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13i wish they would make a M.A.S.K. movie and bring back those toys.

Maybe it's just me, but I like the older Optimus better than this new "rock&roll" optimus. - Suits, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Bumblebees' face looks like and old lady's face. :S
- Digitalmarley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12bumblebee isnt bumblebee unless he's a vw beetle....what next...jazz talks in proper queen's english instead of jive turkey ebonics?
- zaxis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9These are HORRIBLE!
For those of you old enough, the original transformers were actually made out of metal, and had "chrome". I don't see these plastic screws lasting. - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8i hope none of you actually buy these.
buried because michael bay buried my dreams of a good transformers movie. - sremick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6oooh, lots of plastic that will break easily. *sigh*
The GOOD transformers toys were the original metal ones. I still have some.
And while I can ALMOST forgive OP being a different kind of truck, Bumblebee is a VW bug!!! Not a fricken Camarro. Why the hell do you think he has the name "Bumblebee"??? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. What a ridiculous, idiotic, insulting move. - Dino451, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Bumblebee Looks like a old man.
- Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Everyone has a hobby. Some people are just big kids at heart.
What do you like to do for fun? I'm guessing it's somewhere in between poisoning neighbourhood cats and yelling at kids to get the hell off your lawn. - straxus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Speaking of die cast, my gf got me this guy for my birthday last month:
http://www.comicbookbin.com/alternators02.html
Now THAT'S an Optimus Prime. - Tirial, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When did bumblebee become a camaro?
- mpkauto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5thats not a headlight its the gear set for the rear wheels.
- ElGigi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@dougmilbourne:
I understand you. Since you liked Gobots as a kid, your childhood must sucked. - playerslight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Indeed, and the completely wrong model of tractor trailer as well. Optimus Prime was a COE, not a conventional tractor. What's with the big honking nose on him???
- invinciblechunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think that's the first time I've ever seen a blogger use the term "bated breath" properly.
- schroeder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wonder if the helmet will come in adult geek sizes...
- superpixel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4man i loves me some Toy Fair...
- MonkeyMonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The transforming toys were nice, but look further down the article for the one I want:
MR. POTATO HEAD OPTIMASH PRIME
(Approximate retail price: $9.99; Ages: 2 & up; Available: June 2007
MR. POTATO HEAD, the iconic face-changing potato friend for kids, takes on the role of a lifetime as the spud-ly leader of the AUTOBOTS, OPTIMASH PRIME. Kids will be able to have all kinds of mix 'n match fun with this wacky spud dressed as OPTIMUS PRIME. OPTIMASH PRIME comes with fun parts, including shoes, ears, eyes and helmet.
Rock. On. - ZernanToledo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He looks like a haunted ventriloquists dummy.
- gothsquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not just that his face is kinda terrifyingly cute. He creeps me out.
- cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Damn they turned Prime into a flamer.
- Crusoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"It doesn't look high tech enough! Put some more cr@p on it!"
What is it with this stuff? Yeah, we're robots, we're gonna fight, so our armor is gonna have massive holes in it.
And Bumblebee has got the ugliest mecha face ever. I mean, they are uglier than even the Syd Mead designs for "Turn A Gundam":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:System-a-99.jpg
And megatron, what they heck is he supposed to be? - wonderboy91, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Michael Bay is kill'in my childhood with these messed up Transformers!
Why do they all look like scrap metal crazy glued together?
AND WHERES SOUNDWAVE ???!!! I Deny anyone to tell me that Soundwave and Blaster weren't the coolest Transformers ever.
*End angry but justified rant*
Huh..i miss the good o'l days, guess well just have to settle for what we can get. - rwert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3More pictures can be found here:
http://jalopnik.com/cars/novelties/transformers-toys-for-tots-bumblebee-and-optimus-prime-show-their-stuff-at-toyfair-236263.php - Optimaximal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The second GM became one of the main sponsors of the movie.
None of the German manufacturers would support the movie because it involved their products glamorising violence, which explains why Bumblebee is a Camaro and Jazz isn't a 911. - rYno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+290 ***** BUCKS!!!! OMFG!
- MScrip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3> "Michael Bay is kill'in my childhood with these messed up Transformers!"
Actually, your childhood memories are just fine... it's not like Michael Bay went BACK IN TIME and planted these new toys in your bedroom!
I agree about Soundwave though, he was one of my favorites! I loved the mini-cassettes!
Today, Soundwave would probably be a Zune... or crippled by DRM - Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well at least people can't threaten that they'll kick him where the light don't shine...
- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Someone a little upset because their parents never bought them the cool toys when they were a kid?
- petro62, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why does optimus prime look like Jeff Gordon's paint scheme lol. I agree I liked the older looking style one better. Lets see what do they call Jeff Gordons pit crew.....
- BLish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2greeeeeeat. now i gotta start all over on my Halloween Optimus Prime costume that i've been working on for the better part of a year now. i mean who the hell is gonna recognize me now after they say this shiat?
- straxus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, they were a combination of die-cast metal and plastic. My very first TF (Slag - the triceratops dinobot) had plastic screw in his left leg break. But yes, the die-cast made for much nicer looking toys.
- straxus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not to defend this movie, (everything other than Peter Cullen repulses me), but VW won't license it's vehicles as 'war toys' anymore. Still, they could've picked something more befitting the character than a sports car.
- libradragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The originals were definitely better engineered. I have the Cybertron series Optimus Prime and it's just not the same. Complicated and flimsy. Michael Bay can't be blamed entirely for the current state of the Transformers, Hasbro has done their share of diluting the brand.
It does appear that they'll be using rubber tires on Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. Molded plastic tires are lame. - neebick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I agree. Transformers used to look like robots, now they look like some modern 'art' made with a welding torch and junk parts. They just made them way too complicated and if someone argues that the real world is more complicated then a cartoon look at Honda's ASIMO.
- countmandible, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Bumblebee is cool, but the Optimus Prime is lame.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It plains creeps me out... but.. somehow.. it also reminds me of John Lennon.
- KoderOne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No german cars, no digg.
- Dahip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry...plastic? Where's the kick ass metal toys? I won't be dropping any serious cash for plastic.
- Optimaximal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone doesn't understand the concept of 'merchandise whoring'
- sk19, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's not the Optimus Prime I remember. But still looks cool.
And what the hell is with that semi-trailer model that turns into a gun? Is that Prime conceding that Megatron's transformation is cooler? - techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah...and since when does Optimus transform into a gun?
- dixonr315, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe its my old age, but I thought I remember Optimus Prime having two hands, not one hand and a gun for the other.......... *sigh*
- Optimaximal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, but these are likely to be a damn sight cheaper and more mass-market than the Binaltech/Alternator.
Remember, you're a 25 year old geek who collects toys. These things are designed for 13 year olds to break and have replaced by their parents. -
