- Velocity14, on 04/17/2009, -6/+31It's been delightful to see the cinematography and special effects keep getting better. I do respect the films because they have created a beautiful visual backdrop to this imaginary world, even though the books weave a thicker story. I'm enchanted by the technology we have been able to master to give such visuals. It's a bonus because I like fantasy-based concepts where the world wages war against itself utilizing magic as a weapon.
True, Harry Potter is a franchise now and the visual overwhelms the content for the movies... and it's difficult to transfer all that information from text into an edited-for-mainstream audience version... But I'd have to say they're doing a decent job at portraying the darker undertones of this world's war.
I'm more interested in the established world/characters than the cutesy love scenarios and awkward Hollywood acting... But... I'm an animator, work with AEFX, and have several film buddies... so I can admire the extreme dedication people have while making films like this -- creating visuals to something foreign to our reality (magic). It takes more imagination than many give credit for. The evolution of delivery is nice to observe. I guess that's why I still see the movies.
This doesn't excuse WB for being dickwads and delaying the theatrical release for bigger profit in the summer, the author being a pretentious twit, or the incessant fan base who geek out over the superficial layers of content.

- zambuka, on 04/17/2009, -0/+10An insult to the books?
I don't think so, considering the last 2 books in the series were clearly written with the film adaption in mind right down to the cheesy sunrise end in the final book. Not to mention the creative input J.K Rowling has had through the whole process and the huge fan support for the movies.
Just because the movies were not made the way you thought they should have been made does not mean they are bad movies.Your little rant makes you out to be just as much, if not more, the "mindless ***** fanboy/girl" that you are so trying to deride, simply because you are so unwilling to accept someone else's (including the original author's) cinematic interpretation. - Ancientdrifter, on 04/17/2009, -0/+9(addressing Hogwarts) "I wanted this to be professional, efficient, adult, cooperative. Not a lot to ask. Alas, your Mr. Dumbledore did not see it that way... so he won't be joining us for the rest of his life. We can go any way you want it. You can walk out of here or be carried out. But have no illusions. We are in charge. So, decide now, each of you. And please remember: we have left nothing to chance."
