- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+61Interesting, but I thought "Hermione's Cave of Mystery" was a little inappropriate.
- cliner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25– Hogwart’s Express: Wait on Platform 9 3/4.
YES! I love waiting. - FresnonserF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I've always thought the mine cars of Gringots bank would make a great ride.
- Cornedbeef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7A game of Quidditch sounds like a great theme.

I work at Universal Studios Florida, and that rumor is wrong. BTTF is gone, it closed March 30th forever. (I was there on the last day, they opened the park early and closed it later for employees friends and families.) Now Simpsons may have fallen thorugh, I'm not sure of that really, but BTTF I know for a fact is gone. - billucf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The rumor I have heard is that it is going to be in Universal's Islands of Adventure Park. They are going to replace "The Lost Continent" part of the park with the Harry Potter theme.
The rumor for Universal Studios is that the "Back to the Future" ride that they just shut down is going to replace with a "The Simpsons" theme ride. - KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It would also be an ideal place for terrorists to hide a snuke.
- aerospace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was just talking about this idea with my coworkers a couple weeks ago. We were all wondering why HP themed attractions were not anywhere.
The first HP ride idea that popped into my head was the flying car on the way to Hogwart's, done BTTF ride style. It's a perfect fit. - joshf52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've actually heard the same rumor. And Harry Potter could easily take over the Lost Continent. The only major ride there is the Dueling Dragons and dragons are a part of the Harry Potter world. Plus, I believe the only other ride there is the Flying Unicorn and unicorns are also in HP. And the only other attractions in that zone are the 2 shows, Sinbad and Poseidon.
- nytewalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I love the idea, I love HP, but I work at Universal Studios Florida. If I haven't heard this rumor, and trust me we hear ALOT of rumors, it's total hogwash. But I think it'd be cool non-the-less.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It would be a perfect time to read the latest HP fanfiction or listen to the latest podcast!
- jcdickerson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hope both rumors are true. Why? I visit Orlando once a year on vacation and I would LOVE more competition with Disney, to increase the perks and promotions that Disney offers. Universal definitely needs a big draw as most of its big event rides are either dated or themed to comic books (which is fine it's just not a lot of people's "thing"). I look forward to Disney having to fight for dollars more than they have to now - it will make things better for customers of both parks.
- nytewalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"The Simpsons is pretty much offical, but HP taking over Lost Continent? Sorry but LC in IOA is one of the more popular areas. It isn't going anywhere soon.
- cargreenwood, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4awesome idea, lets hope its ready for when i visit orlando next year
- bwayne1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's not the only geeky idea that's been floated for upcoming theme parks:
http://www.greatwhitesnark.com/2007/05/28/top-10-upcoming-theme-parks-for-geeks/ - joship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great Idea! I am looking forward to it! Go Harry Potter~~
- knulpm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They need to bring back the "Vibrating Broomstick" ride.
- teamgwho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally I think that simply a "section" of Universal Studios devoted to the world of HP will not be nearly large enough to do the book and it's miriad elements justice.
Aside from all the obvious stores and drinking taverns and so forth) there are tons of ride possibilities.
Riding Buck beak, riding a quditich broom (ala flying dumbo or the flying carpets ride in Disney)
meet a live dragon or buckbeak (ala the live dinosaur in the lost world secition of Universal)
roller coaster based on being chased by the hungarian horntail or the mine carws of gringots
whomping willow tree climb (and under)
secret passages from different parts of the park to another via the tunnels they use to get to the whomping willow, to hogwarts and to hogsmeade
someone else suggest a laser tag style game to replicate the battle between the death eaters and the OOTP at the end of the fifth book. great idea.
there's also obviously possibilities of classes, demonstrations, character signings and so on.
also this park would also have such great possibilities for theming it's unimaginable.
on a related note, I've always felt that the LOTR would make a fantastic theme park. not a section of a park. it's own theme park, and for all the same reasons I said above. with such a rich and detailed background to draw from, it wouldn't do it justice to limit it to a section. - Anubis2051, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually, The Simpsons ride fell through, something about one of the voice actors not signing on. As of right now the rumor is that the BTTF ride will remain open (and the other side will re-open), until something is found to replace it. To be honest, I hope the BTTF ride stays open indefinitely, I love that ride, its my favorite on to go on whenever I go down to Universal.
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, apparently, do Potter fans.
- aerodash84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember hearing about this back in December. Someone who worked there was talking about WB execs had visited the park about changing the area with the Dueling Dragons into a Harry Potter theme, doesn't need much change at this point.
- dizparks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This rumor has been going around so much since the Harry Potter movies have started coming out. You can easily switch Universal with Disney, Six Flags, Paramount, etc... and find the exact same rumor.
- Mc_Carter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Am I the only person that doesn't like harry potter? Yes I read the books it had a chance and failed.
- thethresh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Am I the only one who read HP and thought Hewlett Packard? Me < nerd.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I work at Disney World and haven't heard anything about Potter either.
But personally, I can't see Universal getting the rights to Harry Potter attractions, Disney would do whatever it takes to keep it out of Univeral's hands, and Disney has deeper pockets.
It's kind of sad, I think Universal would do a better job with Harry Potter, and devote a lot more space to him. - Anubis2051, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1please tell me this isn't whats replacing the Back to the Future ride now that The Simpsons ride fell through!
- CycloneNimrod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Looks magic!
Puns aside, probably will be quite sucessful! - SciFiFan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A Harry Potter themed area of Universal Studios would be awesome. The park needs a few new rides.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Voldemort urinals are a bad idea.
- shewasjustagrl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is a little bit of an issue that might prevent this from ever happening...
Universal does NOT own the rights to producing the Harry Potter movies - Warner Bros. does. All theme parks of Universal Studios' sort (WB and Six Flags, Disney and Disneyland/world, etc) are basically huge city-sized advertisements for the corporations and their affiliated cartoons, movies, and whatnot.
It wouldn't make sense for Universal to advertise for Warner Bros now, would it? - Zevensoft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Warner Brothers own the rights; http://www.movieworld.com.au/rides_attractions/ride_harry_potter.cfm
So old its closed down already. - bertaxxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0There would probably be a better chance of Harry Potter characters showing up at Six Flags parks - they do have other Warner Bros. entities in their attractions.
- gmprunner, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1The "Golden Snitch" was the nickname the warden gave me when I was doing time.
- Zreitan, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1no...no thank you
- deannnnnn, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4Be sure to wrap up your wand before you go into "Hermione's Cave of Mystery;" thousands of people go there everyday.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1If digg wasn't a place where people tried to be funny all the time, it might be of some use.
- p0tent1al, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1yes, thousands do go in, but none have reached the fabled "G Spot"
- xerus, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1Really.. I thought it was very appropriate. Along with "The Golden Snitch"
