- vsujohn2, on 07/06/2008, -3/+48Why is there a trend on digg for truly hating mediocre movies and making them out to be pure *****?
- AoiTakuma, on 07/06/2008, -4/+37I liked the movie. It created a great super anti-hero. An ***** that would destroy buildings and trains to save one or two people, then would fly away *****-faced. It was good fun, people need to stop comparing every movie to every other movie. It is not Iron Man, it is not the Nolan Batman franchise, it never claimed to be.
- noxcel, on 07/06/2008, -12/+36Just came back from the movie and I liked it. Definitely better than Indi 4 [most movies are]. Hancock 7/10
- TheFamousOne2, on 07/06/2008, -4/+25I totally disagree with this article. "Sucking" was the point of this movie, if you will. The director himself said he wanted to create an unorthadox superhero movie. I thought it was very very entertaining, and while I will agree it is not the best movie out there, and most definitely not even up there with mid-range superhero movies, it was well worth my 10 bucks. For anyone who wants to see a serious action-packed, over-the-top CGI filled superhero movie, this is not it. For people who want to see a fun, somewhat family comedy/action, than this is well worth it.
- AriaStar, on 07/06/2008, -2/+20So a reviewer calls it *****. I will see it for myself and decide whether it sucks or not, thank you.
- JordanAustin, on 07/06/2008, -4/+19I really liked the movie, haven't seen a super hero movie like it.
.
Unfortunately those that didn't like it think they need to tell everyone to avoid it. - e2superman, on 07/06/2008, -2/+15I thought it was ok. I was not walking in compariing it to a comic inspired movie.
- loganhid, on 07/06/2008, -2/+14It was quite a good movie - not as bad as everyone is making it out to be
- eliot2000, on 07/06/2008, -1/+12It's a COMEDY. It's not supposed to be on the same level as "Ironman" and "The Dark Knight". Think "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" instead of "The Bourne Identity". Maybe that's an error in marketing it as a superhero movie.
"It wasn't half bad."
-some guy on the internet - Radan, on 07/06/2008, -2/+12Yeah, this is something that has been annoying the hell out of me for a long time (and it's not just Digg).
For some reason, if a movie doesn't compare to the freaking Godfather movie it's more or less considered as the root of all pain and suffering on this earth. As I see it, even if a movie doesn't have a revolutionary story, it can still be a pretty ok movie, as it's simply a movie made for entertaining the audience (gasp!).
The Pirates of the Caribbean movies is a pretty good example of this.
Note that I haven't actually seen this particular movie, so I can't say anything about it, but I doubt that it's as bad as many wants it to be. - bagboyrebel, on 07/06/2008, -0/+10so you're saying that all movies should be above average?
- inactive, on 07/06/2008, -1/+11I liked it. I dunno, it kept me entertained.
- TH3W1R3D, on 07/06/2008, -1/+10I read all this crap about how bad Hancock was. I went and saw it and really, it wasn't that bad. Just different.
- Bith8654, on 07/06/2008, -0/+9He's probably picking up porn with the same name by mistake.
- PaulRay, on 07/06/2008, -1/+9I enjoyed Hancock, my friends enjoyed Hancock. The sold out audience I saw it with, liked Hancock. Why are people hating so hard on this movie? He's supposed to be a bastard, an *****. It looks at super heroes in an interesting way. Will Smith did a great job. Sure, it's no Iron Man, but it didn't suck at all. There are some holes in the plot, not huge, but hey, find me a big budget movie without some holes.
So many people here have, self admittedly, not seen the movie, yet claim to hate it. what's that all about?
It was fun, go see it. Oh, and lighten up, it's only a movie. - IHaveIssues, on 07/06/2008, -1/+8Imagine how bad that new Eddie Murphy movie is going to me: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0765476/
It will make Hancock look like 2001: A Space Odyssey. - Jenadae, on 07/06/2008, -3/+10It's 6am... i take it you're one of those "full time" geeks?
- amanilaenvelope, on 07/06/2008, -4/+11Because this is digg.
- JonathanLondon, on 07/06/2008, -1/+8Holy crap. Cloverfield? Indy 4? Oh man... are we watching the same movies?
- banmaster, on 07/06/2008, -1/+8Because in this day and age there is NO excuse for making a mediocre movie. We still get them of course, but if the ***** studios would just stop hiring ***** dreadful writers and directors that can't direct ***** we might at last be seeing lots of really good films rather than the slew of trainwrecks we've had recently.
- bagboyrebel, on 07/06/2008, -0/+6It's always seemed to me that people love to have something to hate, even if it doesn't deserve it. Bonus points if most other people do like it, it makes them feel special or non-conformist.
- SpoBo, on 07/06/2008, -1/+7Don't take this movie too seriously ... it's a cool idea and it's probably executed well. If you're offended by a superhero not being a superhero and 'cool' all the time then we don't need to hear it. The reviewer clearly had no intention of trying to understand the story.
- banmaster, on 07/06/2008, -0/+5You're kidding right. Legend was ***** dreadful! Even if Smith hasn't lost his marbles and becume a cultins for scientology that would have been the last movie of his that I'd ever want to see.
- inactive, on 07/06/2008, -1/+6Literally a Hancock? C'mon....that's pretty lame
- loganhid, on 07/06/2008, -0/+4agree with ya
- RichGC, on 07/06/2008, -1/+5I saw hancock last night, and while not an all time classic, it was still enjoyable, and had some good surprise twists.
If the reviewer thinks this sucks balls, they probably have not seen "Meet the Spartans". - markwilcox, on 07/06/2008, -2/+6Yeah because it's the same time all over the world.
Idiot. - tep200377, on 07/06/2008, -1/+5I skip all scientologist movies, so this is no exception ...
- dleesgeetar, on 07/06/2008, -0/+4sure 7/10 thats about right
- nigdef, on 07/06/2008, -3/+7watchd it last night i thought it was great and i like the fact that it's a cool flip side to the serious tone of the other big three hero flicks this summer so unless your a freak who lives in his moms basement and thinks that ironman is some kind of documentary go see it it's funny made me laugh.i know all you yanks are trying so hard to hold onto your post 911 angst but geez you are a loud to laugh and have a good time at the movies i think goeorge bush said so.so come on don't be so harsh on a 90 minute flick of pure popcorn entertainment
smith is the man for this and no one can touch him when it comes to these kinda flicks.let the movie ash over you and hell charlize is in it too - synik, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3Being successful and dressing well makes you white?
- KMartSheriff, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3Winning streak? Did you see I Am Legend? After hearing what the book was about, that movie was terrible.
But yeah, too bad though. I like Will Smith. - dermit, on 07/06/2008, -1/+4Did you really have to go see this movie to know it was going to suck balls?
- banmaster, on 07/06/2008, -1/+4Kind of the reverse of Apple fanboys I guess. But just as annoying.
- Infinitedigga, on 07/06/2008, -1/+4Review of the movie is coming from geekiest geek on this planet who writes for geekscape.net which is the geekiest website on the net. So, don't believe geeks unless you are a geekiest geek.
- AlekNovi, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3True, digg does tend to have a large "non-conforming" current. The sad thing is that I see how incredibly intelligent diggers are...
... yet they turn to a mob or a crowd way too often. And like they say in sociology, the group iq of a mob is lower than that of the member with the lowest iq.
Non-conformism is great. In fact, it's what keeps progress moving, it's responsible for all good things that have ever happened in society and humanity...
...but it can be taken to an extreme. Where you make it an identity, and go around looking for something to hate on and rebel against. - banmaster, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3Mmmm foot penis!
- Dodgy240, on 07/06/2008, -4/+7i hate articles like this, warning people to stay away from movies, just let them see it and decide for them selves if they like it or not... fcuk!
- DiggingItt, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3I liked it. I thought it was very good. 7/10.
- KMartSheriff, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2Obviously the number of people who bother seeing them disagree with you.
But yeah, too many ***** movies. - inactive, on 07/06/2008, -1/+3The movie was fine. I didn't go in expecting much (why the hell would you go in expecting much?) and I got 1.5 hours of average entertainment.
I am legend turned to ***** at the end and so did this. But it had a good first half, just like i am legend. Plus will smith has an entertaining screen presence. - FyberOptic, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2This movie wasn't nearly as bad as people say, but it could have been better. In fact, the whole first half of the movie warrants a "pretty good" labeling. The writers then decided to get drunk or something and muck up the originally good plot premise with lots of unnecessary attempts at trying to surprise the viewers. But it still wasn't "bad", it was just a "I could have written that part better" sorta thing. And it still ends on a good note, so that's good enough for me.
But you should go watch WALL-E instead anyway if you haven't already. - EffZee, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2It's Hancock not Hitchcock. ;)
- ATLien74, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2Amen! Now there's a genre that I'm really sick of. They may conjure the occasional snicker, but that's it. Spartans maybe the worst yet. But, finally one of those piles of dog ***** got the title right though: "Disaster Movie".
- JonathanLondon, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1I agree completely to everything you wrote. And Geekscape.net is my site. I just didn't write this review.
I still support my writers' opinions though. He REALLY didn't like this movie!
To each their own. - EverTheCynic, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2Did you read the article? Consumers vote with their dollars. If no one ever uses any discretion and just sees every single movie that comes out, then producers will not need to put in any effort whatsoever in order to make money. If, on the other hand, the consumer watches trailers and reads reviews in order to make an informed decision about what to see in theaters, then good movies will make more money than bad movies and producers will try to make better movies in order to make more money. A side effect of this process is that the consumer leaves the theater satisfied more often than disappointed. I'm honestly amazed that with sites like rottentomatoes.com at our disposal, people can still be regularly disappointed at the movie theater. Sure, one can occasionally disagree with the critics and dislike a well-reviewed film, but it won't be every week. On the other hand, if you're the sort of person who always disagrees with critics and only enjoys films that are poorly-reviewed (may God have mercy on your soul), then you can still use critical reviews as a tool to choose which movies to see without decrying the existence of critics. In my opinion, these people provide an invaluable public service. Gas prices got you down? Leverage your income by not wasting it on bad movies at $9.50 each. Or, you know, do whatever you want and damn anyone who tells you otherwise.
- tehsagemaster, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1I liked the movie. I also am annoyed by the people comparing to traditional super hero movies. The way I was understanding the movie, Hancock didn't want to be a hero, in his opinion he was cursed because he wasn't accepted even with capabilities that were godlike. All he wanted was acceptance and that is what the movie is about.
- DocHoliday22, on 07/06/2008, -2/+3Bummer for Will Smith, he was on a winning streak with a lot of his movies.... This one is like the George Clooney and Batman thing...
- itsbrat, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1utter *****.. I have no clue why people make such movies!
- Fergy, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1All movies that get a multimillion dollar budget yes.
