- SolInvictus, on 02/13/2009, -0/+503Holy crap! That's amazing. The use of in-game footage combined with live action footage was seamless and brilliant. Really, I can't heap enough praise for this project.
Imagine what they could do with a budget of 5 million dollars. - Quicksilver4648, on 02/13/2009, -0/+393Make sure you watch it in HD. Extraordinary.
- ddawggin, on 02/13/2009, -16/+275Afford acting lessons?
- ran24, on 02/13/2009, -1/+242Where's the 2nd episode?
Must...have...more - merlinicorpus, on 02/13/2009, -1/+189Pretty good idea to use the sound effects from the actual game. It works well and saved them the time/money of creating their own.
- DigaPony4, on 02/13/2009, -8/+176Half Life + PC = awesome
Half life 2 + PC = Crazy
Half life 2 + Movie = Crazy awesome - BiscuitWorld, on 03/27/2009, -3/+169To those compaining about the acting: that's easily fixable. The real showcase here was the low(no)-budget but studio quality SFX.
I'm stunned. Hopefully these guys get a few Hollywood meetings out of this. - inactive, on 02/13/2009, -0/+161a $500 budget and they created that awesomeness? holy *****.
- AlexanderSZ, on 02/13/2009, -4/+152I jizzed in my pants, twice.
- cosmicrob, on 02/13/2009, -1/+134Crowbar FTW.
- Kolumbic, on 02/13/2009, -1/+128...and if anyone has lag problems watching it in HD (on a decent computer) then just add &fmt=22 at the end of the link.
=] - tenchiws, on 02/13/2009, -2/+121If they follow Valve tradition, it'll be a year or so. Even though they said an episodic structure would provide faster releases.
- LemonChicken, on 02/13/2009, -0/+89I am so ***** stupid.
- greevar, on 02/13/2009, -0/+79All hail the mighty crowbar!
- godphase3, on 02/13/2009, -1/+75Of course the next installment won't come out for another 3 years....
- sexybobo, on 02/13/2009, -0/+64Thursday if you run on valve time.
Also if you don't already own L4D it is only $25 this weekend http://store.steampowered.com/app/500/ - Steven8890, on 02/13/2009, -2/+65Your mathematical evidence is irrefutable.
- victorycig, on 02/13/2009, -1/+64I think digg members should microfinance a feature length film. This was surprisingly good.
- unlimit, on 02/13/2009, -0/+60i agree. valve should finance these guys to partner up with a studio and make this big.
an indie fan-based movie with a decent budget would make the first successful port of videogames to movies.
being fan-based would avoid the lucrative outlook of production from the studio, and remain faithful to the HL universe. - GliTCH82, on 02/13/2009, -7/+63Hey, say what you want about their acting but it was still tons better than a lot of crap that Hollywood puts out for 160,000 times the budget.
- crazyhorse13, on 02/13/2009, -0/+55*buuuuu-eeeeeeeeeeeeep*
Soothes my soul... - Hanny26, on 02/13/2009, -3/+54Dugg up for Demetri Martin reference.
- Evermin7, on 02/13/2009, -0/+50When is next HL game?
- takua108, on 02/13/2009, -0/+45It was awesome until the crowbar part...
...THEN IT GOT EPIC. - ogmwtfbbq, on 02/13/2009, -5/+48http://www.purchasebrothers.com/Purchase-Brothers- ...
Original Video (better quality). - greenlightison, on 02/13/2009, -1/+40It does have a grenade launcher
http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/SMG_(HL2)
its two small barrels on top of each other, its kind of hard to ever notice tho,
tho, it was incredibly well done for what must have been a limited budget. - TriplePlay2425, on 02/13/2009, -1/+40I managed to downoad the HD version. I uploaded it for you guys to download, here:
http://www.filedropper.com/escapefromcity17-parton ...
It's MP4 format and about 83.5 MB. Enjoy :) - Hortnon, on 02/13/2009, -0/+38Looked like there was some concept art there too.
- bstockwell, on 02/13/2009, -1/+37You realize the entire digg community are half life fans?
- GoldenGlovez, on 02/13/2009, -4/+40This is obviously a tech demo of the new Half Life 3 engine "disguised as a film short"; or so I hope.
- voldron, on 02/13/2009, -1/+37Paypal donations in 5..4..3..2..
- Remmiz, on 02/13/2009, -0/+34If you want to make a mythical creature, just take a regular animal and add wings to it. A horse becomes a pegasus, a lion becomes a griffin, and a hawk... becomes a double hawk.
- t3hNinj4, on 02/13/2009, -1/+33The "&fmt=22" forces the framerate to be 22. Without it, higher-resolution videos like this will default to what looks like 10-15 frames per second. It's not that your computer is too slow; it's that youtube prefers to send you fewer frames to conserve bandwidth. The extra bit of code, though, will make them send you all the frames. (At least, that's my educated guess on the matter.)
- Modiga, on 02/13/2009, -1/+33I agree and disagree. If a movie were to be made I don't think they should be centred around Gordon Freeman, I don't think that would work very well.
I've always thought that the portal storms and 7 hour war were big gaps in a story, I think a film could work if centred round that period, which occurred whilst Gordon was in stasis. - Infowarsdotcom, on 02/13/2009, -1/+32Best game ever = Best movie ever?
Seriously though, one of the things that makes the Half Life series the best games ever made is the fact that you feel like you're playing a character in a movie. - kevin32x, on 02/13/2009, -0/+31Only twice? Mr. Clean brought friends to clean up the mess I made.
- XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, on 02/13/2009, -0/+30That wasn't Freeman but some random Resistance guy
- freezerburn666, on 02/13/2009, -1/+31it would be total BS if they didn't....
- Ockniel, on 02/13/2009, -1/+30Go away.
I don't believe you have a wife, enjoy your hand (and lack of film editing). - adikt, on 02/13/2009, -0/+28pfft... That short was better than most B flicks on a 100+k budget
- GliTCH82, on 02/13/2009, -2/+29This thread is epic math fail.
- anath47, on 02/13/2009, -0/+27Digg effect brought it down.
- Infowarsdotcom, on 02/13/2009, -0/+27OMG! You're my savior!
I quit watching HD video on youtube because it drops so many frames. When I put that in it fixed it completely. - therightclique, on 02/13/2009, -1/+27most sources are idiots.
- Curvearth, on 02/13/2009, -2/+28Incredibly well-done effects and camera work. Too bad the acting and dialogue were so horrible. Still, I'll definitely watch anything else they put out.
This movie feels a lot more desperate and war-torn than the HL2 game. It works really well in this respect. - Hortnon, on 02/13/2009, -0/+26While you're there, check out their other videos. The Coke one is kinda crazy but still really good, and the iPhone one was pretty amazing too.
- inactive, on 02/13/2009, -0/+26Dugg for honesty.
- rentmitchum, on 02/13/2009, -6/+31Wow, that was great. I more or less watched all of Half Life 2 (plus the episodes) as a movie anyway. My roommate played through it all and I sat on the couch and watched. It was already that cinematic that I was hooked on watching it. It helps I was.. inebriated.. At the end of episode 2 when those things fly in and ***** up the old Morgan Freeman lookin guy, I nearly ***** my pants... at least Dog was there to jump on them, Dog rules.
It saddens me that I don't have an Xbox 360 of my own or a good PC, so when Episode 3 comes out (which will conclude it?) I'll not be able to sit and watch it or play it myself. - adikt, on 02/13/2009, -0/+24This Account Has Been Suspended
- Th0rus, on 02/13/2009, -0/+22Wow that was really sweet. They nailed the over all feel and setting of the game.
