- troycott, on 12/04/2007, -5/+144Ideally, I don't want anyone to know I'm watching any Harry Potter film.
- dweeb79, on 12/04/2007, -9/+77WTF do I want to chat while I'm watching a movie?
- WiseWeasel, on 12/04/2007, -13/+62All the drawbacks of having to wait for others to get ready, pause for the bathroom, and rewind to see what they missed, without having to spend the time together. Can't see this failing to take hold...
- inactive, on 12/04/2007, -9/+44So for the 360 could they like update it and use the chatpad? That would be kinda cool.
- clickwir, on 12/04/2007, -15/+47This sounds horrible. Not just bad, but horrible.
Stop wasting time and money crap like this and DRM ***** and try making the movies better. - LaGStAr, on 12/04/2007, -1/+20The only time I talk during a show I'm watching is when I have to yell at someone who is talking during the show.
- Oubipaws, on 12/04/2007, -24/+43Thats pretty damn nifty if I do say so myself...
- kazzyD, on 12/04/2007, -1/+15Yeah, well, I want peace on earth too... I guess we're all entitled to wishful thinking even if I'm personally skeptical by nature.
- MWeather, on 12/04/2007, -2/+16Anyone who is obsessed with getting laid is a virgin or a latent homosexual.
- tophu, on 12/04/2007, -1/+15No *****. I'm trying to watch a movie people, so shut the f**k up. You can chat when it's over.
- Lnet, on 12/04/2007, -4/+17I think Bill Gates must have come up with this idea because this is how he dated his wife before - watching movies in separate cities and chatting about them.
- IphtashuFitz, on 12/04/2007, -11/+23This has got to be one of the lamest "features" I've ever heard of. If I want to watch a movie with a friend I'll get together with my friend and we'll physically watch it together. I'm not so antisocial that I want to hole up in my bedroom by myself and "chat" with somebody remotely who is also watching the same thing. Of course I guess there are plenty of losers out there who spend their every minute playing MMORPG's that they are antisocial enough to only want to watch movies with friends in this manner. Pretty pathetic...
- TheG2, on 12/04/2007, -3/+14And Extras and "Special" features aren't gimmicks?
- MicHalpin, on 12/04/2007, -0/+11They wouldn't need to if both parties were on a 360.
- rmetzger, on 12/04/2007, -8/+19retarded. now if it would stream a copy to your friends while you watch it, now that is a feature.
- JasonCox, on 12/04/2007, -2/+12"WTF do I want to chat while I'm watching a movie?"
It's so your girlfriend can ask you what's happening every five minutes from a remote location. - look4alec, on 12/04/2007, -4/+14This is pointless, and would only cause an annoyance. Who cares if you watch a movie at the exact same time. Its not like you could be on the phone during the movie discussing. It would only be sweet if they DIDN't HAVE TO OWN THE MOVIE to watch it with you. That would be a good feature.
- mercano, on 12/04/2007, -1/+10"Anyone remember DVD-ROM? Who the hell even bothered with that?"
It was used in a few products marked as the PS2, XBox, XBox 360, and Wii, but they never caught on. Oh, and some of the more recent PC games are shipping on DVD-ROM rather then CD-ROM so they don't have multi-disc installs. - WiseWeasel, on 12/04/2007, -1/+10There are hybrid players already (for about $1000).
- IphtashuFitz, on 12/04/2007, -1/+8Try reading the article. It's not streaming. It's syncing your HD-DVD with your friends HD-DVD. You both have to have the disc. All this technology does is synch the two (or more) discs and let you "chat" with your friends while watching the movie.
- samus007, on 12/04/2007, -0/+7Buy a Sharp Blu-Ray player then.
- inactive, on 12/04/2007, -1/+8I'd propose having a button on the remote that skips immediately to the beginning of the main feature, skipping all the ads and warnings.
- nastajus, on 12/04/2007, -0/+6Ah, but they're generally different people.
- dafragsta, on 12/04/2007, -1/+7uuuh, how is what he said any less valid? It's all true when you are watching a disc in the same room as the other people. There is only one player and one remote, but the person in charge still has to deal with the pausing and unpausing for bathroom breaks, recaps, and in the end, it's just weak sauce.
- drakino, on 12/04/2007, -2/+8"and text with your remote, PC or cellphone."
Wait, now because of the power of HD-DVD, I can chat to someone over a cell phone or a computer? Wow, amazing! Who would have thought these little cell phones could actually allow me to communicate with someone in another place. Here all I figured it did was take crappy pictures and make odd noises every once in a while. I wonder how long before someone figures out how to get these cellphones to allow communication without having to buy an HD-DVD. - biochem, on 12/04/2007, -1/+7Clearly this is a feature geared towards women
- rickeyG, on 12/04/2007, -0/+6Yeah and the release of Independence Day on Blu-Ray has just been delayed as well until next year, since they could not get it to work in around 5% of blu-ray players. It seems they weren't all built to the same standards.
- bowdie, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5Hmm, do it with MST3k, and then we'll talk...
- IphtashuFitz, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5Try reading the article. It's not streaming. It's syncing your HD-DVD with your friends HD-DVD. You both have to have the disc. All this technology does is synch the two (or more) discs and let you "chat" with your friends while watching the movie.
- bejayel, on 12/04/2007, -2/+7It wasnt very nice to tell everyone that snape kills dumbledore. You could have at least wrapped it in spoiler tags or something :P
- jsully, on 12/04/2007, -1/+6I got laid last night, and if was nifty. What do you think of that?
- fkr3, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5How about half of my friends are in Australia (where I'm from) while I'm living on the other side of the world? It would be ***** awesome to watch the new Futuramas with my mates.
- slwrochild, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5You come off like a huge douche bag in that post, maybe you just don’t translate well on to the internet?
Believe it or not, some people actually have to move away from families, loved ones, and friends, and GASP… its not because of MMORPG's. Maybe they are in the service, jobs that pay a lot more to move some where else, plenty of reasons why people can not always get together and physically watch it together.
I know your narrow views of the world must be constricting, so I won’t hold it against you. - br0ck, on 12/04/2007, -1/+6That seems like a costly way to save space since Toshiba HD-A1 $170 + Sony BDP-S300 $378 = $548
In fact, for that price you could get both consoles with HD players: PS3 $499 + Xbox $349 + Xbox HDDVD $170 = $1018. - mrgreen4242, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5The MPAA is requiring that all next generation video devices come equipped with interference equipment to make sure that you don't infringe on their intellectual property by describing the film to people who might not own a valid license.
- Ravatar, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5You do realize HD-DVD's bandwidth would top out at 36.5Mbps, right? You also realize that most of the ISPs in this country cap outbound bandwidth at 512Kbps-2Mbps?
- IphtashuFitz, on 12/04/2007, -0/+5Um. I suggest you read the article. It requires each viewer to have the DVD in question. This technology just syncs the viewing of the DVD's and provides chat capabilities. It's not doing any streaming of the video.
- bjs3171, on 12/04/2007, -3/+8i thought that's what this was...
- EarlOfLade, on 12/04/2007, -1/+6How about during the mandatory, no-skip commercials that soon will be found in-movie?
- bCabulon, on 12/04/2007, -0/+4you could just use a phone.
- troycott, on 12/04/2007, -1/+5yeah because when you're dating someone, you spend SO much time actually watching the film --
- Escamotage, on 12/04/2007, -25/+29Seriously, HD-DVD is coming off thin with all these features that nobody will use.
- Their online interactivity? Anyone remember DVD-ROM? Who the hell even bothered with that?
- Chat via Remote? Yeah, because I can't get enough of people yapping in the theaters, I can get it in my own home.
What's next? HD-DVD popcorn maker? Just focus on the movies, douche. - mytruckhasdents, on 12/04/2007, -0/+4so you have the ability to sync players up- why not just go all out and allow the HD DVD players to sync with a server so i can have my own personal HD indemand feature with new releases? ...kinda like amazon/tivo are doing...that'll kick bluray loving blockbuster right in the balls.
- samus007, on 12/04/2007, -3/+7Blu-Ray is so far from dead. They are WAY in the lead.
- logicalnoise, on 12/04/2007, -0/+4Weren't some people drooling over this when sony mentioned that you could watch ads and tv shows on PSN HOME with all you buddies avatars?
- BreathofCepheus, on 12/04/2007, -2/+6The porn industry is gunna have a field day with this..
- elemmeno, on 12/04/2007, -3/+7Um... Some people have friends and family who live far away. Is that so hard to imagine?
- bigwig7, on 12/04/2007, -3/+7Yeah I remember reading about the problems with some of the blu-rays like "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer". Plus all blu-ray players aren't web enabled anyway.
