- youtellme8, on 04/25/2008, -1/+95If his style for The Hobbit is similar at all to his style in Pan's Labyrinth, then we are in for an excellent, haunting, and beautiful interpretation of a great book.
- swrostmore, on 04/25/2008, -11/+92Samuel L. Jackson as the dragon? The internet needs to begin the campaign to include the line "I'M TIRED OF THESE *****' HOBBITS IN MY *****' LAIR" in the film, and soon!
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -6/+71So he isnt gay?
- wrathchilde, on 04/25/2008, -1/+62I don't know half of the books half as well as I'd like, and I like less than half of the movies half as well as they deserve.
That being said, eleventyone years will be a long time to wait for this movie(s). - Pureeviljester, on 04/25/2008, -13/+60that's cool and all, but i object to the notion that Hell Boy was a good movie..
- Spiderbrigade, on 04/25/2008, -0/+39Of course there will be two!
The Hobbit part I: There
The Hobbit part II: Back Again - inactive, on 04/25/2008, -3/+40http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2008/04/25/28747-g ...
He's saying animatronic monsters. I can't wait! - inactive, on 04/25/2008, -2/+36now if only we can get Tom Cruise to come out of the Hobbit Closet...
- foofoobee, on 04/25/2008, -0/+31Actually, if Tom Cruise is locked up in *any* closet, that's probably the best place for him to be. Let's leave him there.
- Harabeck, on 04/25/2008, -1/+26Internet memes do not need to taint Tolkein! Make it line for line from the book as far as Im concerned.
- swrostmore, on 04/25/2008, -3/+24OVERRULED!
Just kidding, Hellboy sucked. - strobelite33, on 04/25/2008, -1/+20sweet. this is going to be a legitimate excuse to use the word 'epic'
- Calcularius, on 04/25/2008, -1/+20I don't want "interpretation."
I want recreation. - Electrix, on 04/25/2008, -7/+25It's about time! He's been talking to them since January!
Great news :) - MWeather, on 04/25/2008, -1/+19So two hours of Bilbo avoiding the Sackville-Baginses?
- Greatn3ss, on 04/25/2008, -2/+19"Del Toro will move out to New Zealand for the next four years to work with Peter Jackson and his Wingnut and WETA production teams on the two flicks, the first of which will both probably not hit theaters until 2010."
...wait there are going to be two movies? - SeriousMite, on 04/25/2008, -4/+19Hopefully it will be the Del Toro that directed Pan's and Devil's Backbone and not the one who directed Blade II and Hellboy.
- crichton101, on 04/25/2008, -0/+14I hope not, his wife wouldn't be to thrilled about.
- NesloTterrag, on 04/25/2008, -0/+11Smaug Smaug I wanna see Smaug!
Please...Please...don't let me down on at least that part of the movie. - awtripp, on 04/25/2008, -0/+11I hope they use Spock's Ballad of Bilbo Baggins as part of the soundtrack!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2HQ1K7YyQM - DougVitale, on 04/25/2008, -1/+12Won't he be a little old to reprise the role of Bilbo? He's 77 now and he'll be 78 when they start shooting. I think that the movie calls for someone a little younger.
- malex, on 04/25/2008, -1/+11"I want you to go in that horde and find my Arkenstone."
"Which one is it?"
"It's the one that says 'bad *****.'" - Scrappy1850, on 04/25/2008, -4/+14I'm so self centered that i have to sign all my comments even though my name is already above the comment.
-Pie - swrostmore, on 04/25/2008, -1/+10Redundant signature is redundant.
- EatingPie, on 04/25/2008, -6/+15Now we have to start pushing for Ian Holm to keep the role of Bilbo Baggins. Besides being one of the greatest actors alive today, he's absolutely perfect as The Hobbit.
-Pie - Charlesbian, on 04/25/2008, -1/+9Pan's Labyrith was amazing, while hellboy was a steaming pile of crap. i guess he's good at only certain styles of directing, and heres to hoping the hobbit follows pan's lead
- OfNumbers, on 04/25/2008, -1/+9Finally a good excuse to go to the theaters on hallucinogens again.
- LexisNexis, on 04/25/2008, -0/+8It's a good thing you aren't in charge.
- sircomix, on 04/25/2008, -1/+9RTA. There will be a "Hobbit" film and then another film encompassing the 50-60 years between the end of the Hobbit and the start of Fellowship.
- arkavat, on 04/25/2008, -0/+8Thanks for the link. nice interview.
I like his approach towards The Hobbit. Seems like, he and Peter Jackson have good understanding between them. This is all good for the movie. - Bersy, on 04/25/2008, -1/+8I hope they include the line "throw another ***** on the fire" then.
- SPRFRKR, on 04/25/2008, -0/+7The Dark Crystal!
- TheZorch, on 04/25/2008, -1/+8This is some good news. Lets hope he brings in some LOTR alumni for this film too.
- Balanced, on 04/25/2008, -1/+8But Hellboy was fun! If anything, it was the script getting tweaked to be more 'friendly' that hurt it.
- crowbar77, on 04/25/2008, -0/+7Yeah, the second one will take place between the hobbit and LOTR. I think its when sauron controls mirkwood?
- Calcularius, on 04/25/2008, -2/+9I'll go see it, but I wish Jackson was doing it. Not because I think Del Toro will make a bad movie, but I don't want The Hobbit to feel different than TLOTR movies.
Devil's Backbone is Del Toro's best movie, IMO, but it's a totally different kind of movie than The Hobbit.
I haven't actually seen Pan's Labyrinth, so I'll STFU until I do. - TheCooler72, on 04/25/2008, -0/+7I honestly thought this would be about him saying he was a hobbit.
- Stopher, on 04/25/2008, -0/+6Well he does sorta look like Peter Jackson before he lost all that weight.
- 8bit_Hero, on 04/25/2008, -0/+5he looks just like bilbo. is he playing him too?
- skunks, on 04/25/2008, -0/+5McKellen is in, according to his website: http://www.mckellen.com/cinema/index0.htm.
- StanislawLem, on 04/25/2008, -3/+8No, he just has a sexual attraction to short hairy guys with big feet. Watch out, Robin Williams.
- ancalagon73, on 04/25/2008, -2/+7Are you kidding me? Did you even read LOTR? You can argue that Fellowship was on-par, but Towers and King were massacred. They were still damn good movies, but not LOTR.
- urgeigh, on 04/25/2008, -0/+5Ok now all we need is a 12-15 hour epic portrayal of The Silmarillion and I can die a happy man. Too bad I don't think anyone in film will ever conquer that beast as a whole. Although I totally think a movie could be made of Beren & Luthien or Turin Turambar... just a pipe dream though. =/ Can't wait to see The Hobbit!
- gnslngr1919, on 04/25/2008, -0/+5... is the best of the three movies. That's what the rest of your sentence was, right?
- alwilson, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4Yep, you're the only one. Sucks to be you.
- OaklandMatt, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4Why can't you spell?
- stevensj2, on 04/25/2008, -0/+4I'm very curious if the dwarves will have colorful beards, as they do in the book.
- dysfunction, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4Actually, Biblo and Frodo were about the same age when they went on their respective journeys, though Frodo is much younger when LOTR begins. tecunx is correct that Frodo is 33 when LOTR begins, but Gandalf's research on the ring and his internment in Isengard actually encompasses well over a decade (don't remember how many years exactly). I think Frodo is near 50 by the time he sets out for Rivendell (which would probably be equivalent to early or mid 30's for a human). Bilbo is maybe 5 or 10 years older than this at the start of The Hobbit.
- bakkouz, on 04/25/2008, -0/+4"blown our collective mind with the awesome badassery of Hellboy"
it wasn't THAT good :
Pan's however, was. - crowbar77, on 04/25/2008, -0/+4No, there was unfinished tales and some hints at what happened in lotr but thats about it. The book the hobbit by itself will be one movie, the period in between will be another.
