- icantseeyou, on 06/02/2008, -2/+10I was a pure trial attorney for 6 years so I prefer NOT to watch movies that are legal drama's. The last thing I liked watching that was in any way legal was Ally McBeal. It was so far out and funny that I didn't even consider it to be legal. My Cousin Vinny was good though - I'll give you that. I recently saw some clips played at a Mediation class and I laughed pretty hard.
I talk to doctors all the time and they don't watch Medical shows - same thing. When you do it for a living you tend not to want to take it home - especially when it's so innacurate.
My favorite show on now is House. - luke16, on 06/02/2008, -1/+6What about the Scene from Scent of a Woman? That's a court, kinda...

My ex-g/f way back when was an attorney. She told me that "The Verdict" would have been easily lost on appeal (or stretched out for years), as the only way that the jury could have concluded what happened was by a piece of paper declared inadmissible (of course, that could be appealed too, which would likely stretch this thing out for eons). But it was still a feel-good moment.

http://directory.qlbe.com/category-13-13 - openthink, on 06/02/2008, -1/+3Like the list. Love The Verdict -- great screenplay written by Mamet and definitely 1 of Newman's best performances. Not really a courtroom pic, but somewhat of a legal one: Body Heat; young William Hurt and (hard to believe now) a very hot Kathleen Turner. Back then Turner she was thought of as the next Lauren Bacal. Didn't exactly turn out that way. Also liked Inherit The Wind -- kind of polemical, over the top, covering the Scopes monkey trial, but some great performances; e.g., Spencer Tracy playing Clarence Darrow.
- duggtodeath, on 06/02/2008, -1/+3John Grisham probably wrote half of these :)
- LogicBomB, on 06/02/2008, -0/+2This is how I (and most geeks) feel when technology/computers/physics are brought into movies.
Case in point: Batman Begins. GREAT MOVIE until the very end when they say they have a water-vaporising weapon. That's all well and good but everyone in the area should have instantly died. I guess the director forgot humans are mostly water... - inactive, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2http://vb.qlbe.com/f62/

Wasn't he a colonel ... not a general ... - bossm4n, on 06/02/2008, -0/+1I think you missed your intended target with your reply. Thank goodness Pattons aim was better than yours.
- kingcam, on 06/02/2008, -1/+2You have to give this one to Napoleon. The guy won so many battles, often outnumbered, that it was basically a day job. Now, I know some of you are going to say "But Russia..........", and that is certainly debatable. I would argue that the Russia campaign could not be avoided, Russia had the resources that were needed to fight the English and aside from that they were a thorn in Napoleon's side for a long time, but thats a whole different discussion. The important thing to remember is that Napoleon literally won every decisive conflict for more than a decade, the guy was fighting the UK, Russia, Austria, Prussia and most of the other European states at the same time and still manages to pull it off. My personal favorite of Napoleon's victories is at Austerlitz http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Austerlitz , the battle plan is just so spectacular I think that it is beyond even most other generals people consider to be great.
Incidentally I wanted to point out how I feel that Alexander the Great is possibly the most over-rated person in all of human history. The guy made no serious contributions to the theory of war; was advised by some of the greatest minds in military history and didn't even have to build his own army (it was his fathers). I just fail to see how the guy was great just because he conquered a vast part of the world that, aside from part of Persia, was worthless jungle, and wasteland. - whatthehell9, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1those are good... also like Howard Roark's courtroom speech:

And simply writing off 12 Angry Men because you haven't seen it in 30 years just goes to show how much you know about courtroom movies. - arkaycee, on 06/02/2008, -0/+0My ex-g/f way back when was an attorney.
