http://imran.TV/ - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hardly think this would be an end to Netflix. The Netflix system is really great, fast turnaround and the website is very easy to use.
I'd expect this to be more of a video-on-demand type thing than renting out of physical media. - mad23dog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very interesting... Just another step towards Google's World Domination!
- Squeegee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Rumor was that Google was looking to buy Netflix.
- psilvestri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds Googl.isio.us
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmmm, let's wait and see..
- JPhilipson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll stick with netflix thank you
- Amplifier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0everyday google is going to get into a new buisiness, at least according to digg.com they are!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Infastructure for this isn't there yet really, I think there's more of a market for google to link to online music retailers.. a'la iTunes/napster.. and DVD rentals a'la Amazon/Netflix.
Google probably wants to work with these third party companies to offer consumers the ability to get reviews, from multiple sources, then competitive prices (see froogle) on the same thing.
Then cash in on their chanelling fees, all while using Google technology to search for films you might like and recommend something you might like.
Just a theory.. it's good to work at Google right now... - jnorris441, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who would pay to watch a Flash video of a DVD?
- skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd like to see apple do this with the iTMS.
- swaxhog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh swell yet another vertical market Google is rumored to be going into. What's left? Google sanity pads?
- BluParadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's pretty obvious what this is, and there are two parts to it.
First, google will offer links to places where you can buy content through google video (places like itunes or amazon), and the second part is people will be able to mark google videos as being for sale only (you can see a preview but not get the whole video until you pay.) This effectively makes google video a content distribution network for indie artists amd movie producers... - fcain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All Google, or anyone needs to develop is some kind of USB -> video cable and mini remote control. You could install some kind of software on your computer and then it would output to your television. Pick a show from Google video and it would play out on your TV.

After their fiasco with Google Analytics, they seemed to have at least slowed the offering of any new services for which they don't already have an solid infrastructure in place. - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0NOT SPECULATION!
I was recently browsing Google's job openings, and they were specifically looking for someone to "negotiate" deals with Hollywood. Check for yourself if you dont believe me - captainjy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is getting ridiculous. In Wired, Google says they don't want to be know as a 400-lb gorilla and they have their hands in everything. Seriously, this is getting out of hand. All you MS haters out there should start hating Google because they are into way too much! Honestly, Google reminds of the French for some reason. Other than their search, all of their products just plain ass suck!
- ajz8182, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Kiddies, I just spoke to Sergey; confirmed its not going to happen. thread closed.
