- therodersabides, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46Pics or you didn't happen.
- meltingrobot, on 10/12/2007, -17/+60You mean to say there wasn't one man in the whole theater? What did you go to see? Music and Lyrics?
- bobcrotch, on 10/12/2007, -8/+47I'm on the internet and I want attention.
- CoreyP319, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36That sufficiently brought down my hype level. Thanks! Lets hope it works out.

Don't talk anymore. Please? - splud, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25"Going to see "Grindhouse?" Don't." -rwen2750
What exactly do you base that on?
How about this: I saw "Grindhouse" last week at Lincoln Center in NYC. The movie was fantastic... if:
1 - you like Robert Rodriguez (not including Spy Kids)
2 - you like Quentin Tarantino
3 - you like campy horror / thriller movies
I loved it. My friends loved it. The theater loved it.
Don't be a hater. I didn't chime in on the "Glitter" post and tell you what to think. - dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25gun legs. what other reason do you need to see Grindhouse? sheesh!
- meltingrobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15It's the internet. 90% porn, 5% business, and 5% people bitching anonymously.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21You're giving us a bad name, dear. Please stop.
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Yea, no offense, but unless you're a fan of gore/horror movies, you're probably not going to like this.
- gnslngr1919, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18I hope you are not talking about Kill Bill. Because that was pretty much one of the best action movies ever.
- nonpareil, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20Same thing happened with me w/ 300. After a stunning trailer, my expectations went through the roof...then I read at least 5 abysmal reviews. When I went to see it at IMAX, I was expecting nothing short of Big Momma's House-type inanity - thankfully, the movie was s-p-o-t-o-n.
Do this with any movie you can - you'll be thankful you did. - JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16I'm more than ready for this movie.
- wacka, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I liked Spy Kids!
- alevel27mage, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13@infinitenothing
Don't make fun of his speech impediment. He meant spartan and you know it. - otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12@kurisuku
I stopped reading at "I just don't care. It's not fun. I don't care to sit there entangled in some intense story. I'd rather do something creative."
So I suppose, in your mind, novels, non-fiction works, dramas, operas, and plays lack creativity? - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -24/+33When I saw the trailer (in theaters) for this movie, the entire room sort of groaned in a "God, that looks horrible" sort of way.
I don't plan on seeing this. - henrythehorse, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Average Digg users = Pseudo-Intellectuals that can't cypher and appreciate the purpose of specific genres of film so instead they tote around someone elses linear movie opinions without knowing how to have an individual opinion and everyone has to hear their all knowing knowledge (aka pure crap) on the AFIs top 100 lists.
- therodersabides, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"a B movie with a multimillion dollar budget and star cast"
That right there just summed up why it'll suck. - Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13My hype never started ... I know its cool to make tributes and all but the movies this is based off were garbage back in the day and they're garbage today. Its just some campy film with aging effects applied because we're living in the age where retro anything will sell and this is no different.
Why ANYONE would bother reading ANY review for this is beyond me. Does it look like something you'd want to see? If so, cool - knock yourself out. But negative/positive reviews won't make/stop someone from seeing it no more than anyone who was actually interested in the premise reading reviews for Norbitt to decide if it was good or not.
That said I laughed very loud when I saw the girl with the gun for a leg do a flying kick or whatever - looks ridiculous in a good way. just not in a "pay 12 bucks+ to see this" way. The half thats called Deathproof looks a lot worse than the first half. - bobcrotch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Would you take your kids to watch a porno?
Probably not.
Don't goto an action gore fest expecting a 'story'. It is people like you who would actually give a good action gore fest a bad review because it didn't have a story. - gnslngr1919, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I think some people here don't like movies that aren't in a different language and are popular. It's the old "People like it, therefore it must suck" attitude. I think it's pretty obvious that QT has a lot of talent, but dumbasses like to hate him because he is popular. Show me somebody who doesn't like Kill Bill or Pulp Fiction and I will show you a pompous jerkoff who has to use words like onanistic to feel superior to everybody else when he could have just as easily typed masturbatory.
- xkrwlng, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10if Tarentino had a hand in a movie, you know it is terribly unrealistic and has random gore
he's nothing if not consistent. :) - wurtis16, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9great we get to see tarantino do a B movie with a multimillion dollar budget and star cast.
you can't force something like the "grindhouse movies"
is it just me or is this whole thing a huge oxymoron??? - ZakColeman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yeah, this movie sucks, dont expect anything good. (just trying to lower your expectations)
- NinjaPig, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9tarantino has yet to fail in writing or directing....
even the poorly reviewed from dusk till dawn is endlessly quotable...
i saw two clips of death proof on rotten tomatoes....both were great...i don't see what people are complaining about - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Interesting dreams you have.
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I like how he called Naveen Andrews as Sayid. As if Andrews didn't feel typecast enough :D
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.rottentomatoes.com is all you need.
- thinkstoomuch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Haaaa, Fergie....thats just silly.
- Imprint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3what a load of horse *****.
What's next a guide to tell me how to wipe my ass after I take a *****..
Seriously, what is wrong with people when you can't make up your own mind about a movie. Just go and see it, if you like it - great, if you don't - it doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things.
Hype is hype. Simple. - g30ph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm a Kurt Russel fan. That's the best reason I have to see this.
- daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@coffeedemon
It's a call back to the days when these films were made, there are people who were entertained by the saturday double feature matinée and this film is for them. I don't think it's the retro-ness that makes the film appealing, but just a reminder that sometimes all we need is some stupid over the top action entertainment without trying to be true to reality or politically correct. - MrStabby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I had a goregasm over both 300 and Sin City...
Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the Kill Bill line were pretty good...
Yet I'm still not feelin' this movie all that much, not enough justified violence...I can't stand a blood and gore movie if it doesn't have enough actual justification to hold it up... - emiles, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9The people digging you down must think it looks good.
- SanFranMan, on 10/12/2007, -12/+15Looks really, really really good? Srsly? Looks like garbage to me. Looks From-Dusk-til-Dawn-ish which was worse than Showgirls imo. Its Tarantino masturbation. Oh, and while I'm hatin': The Mariachi Trilogy was so cheesy I thought Bela Lugosi should have replaced Antonio Bandaras.
- BlinderBomber, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@ kurisuku
Funny, I found it shallow and pedantic. Hmm... Yes. - Mortifer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'll see anything with Kurt Russell in it. It is my personally imposed penance for not buying a ticket to Big Trouble In Little China 21 years ago.
- AllnightChemist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why? Because the BloodPoolKid demographic will go ANOTHER movie just to see the trailer for it.
I wish I could show my disapproval for unnecessary remakes like Halloween, Escape from New York, The Warriors, etc. by some real world equivalent of digging them down and burying them as lame. - squirpy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6@xisupermanix
how frickin' dumb are you? I think he's pretty clear from the outset that this is not a review, but a preparatory de-hyping. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@infinitenothing: He's talking about 300, and saying SPARTAN with a Boston Accent.
Sp-AHHT ON
(Spot)(On) - shogusumi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where did you get 4 hours from? I think it's more like 3. Though, add in some Pepsi and Pontiac ads, a "Silence Your Cell Phone" moment, and some Digital THX Dolby 38.2 Audiogasm, you might be at 4.
- otatop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4mudkipsuliekem, jazzmine has a habit of posting stuff from celebritytrade.com a lot. Even if it isn't spam, it's annoying.
- Ithaycu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Lucas also has American Graffiti, THX 1138. Both good movies IMO. Anyway, I for one am looking for to some mindless diversions from the world we live in. The constant braying of the political left and right in this country wear me down.
Cheers,
Ithaycu - JohnnyRad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I saw grindhouse at the austin premiere, i'll breakdown the 2 movies:
planet terror is AWESOME. super gory to the point youre crying/laughing because it's so over the top.
and then after that was death proof. yep.
i hope these reveiews helped! - Paranormalized, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"great we get to see tarantino do a B movie with a multimillion dollar budget and star cast. ...is it just me or is this whole thing a huge oxymoron???"
That's what pretty much all of Tarantino's movies are about. Did you see Kill Bill? Just about every scene is a takeoff of some B movie. IMO, he does it very well. - JohnnyRad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2dude, there was totally reason for her getting the gun leg put on, see the damn movie before you pass judgement!
- hardcle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My point by point response:
The film was cut from an NC-17 to an R.
No film released as NC-17 has any chance to make money. There are restrictions on where NC-17 films can play and many newspapers and TV stations won't even accept advertising for them. This is not a big deal, wait for the DVD to see the uncut version.
It will be impossible to truly recreate the experience of a grindhouse theater.
True enough, but releasing as NC-17 wouldn't solve the problem, because the only theaters willing to play an NC-17 film are more likely to be the independent art houses. The "*****-ass, rundown theaters on the other side of town" don't really exist anymore.
“Death Proof” evidently has too much damn dialogue.
The genius of Tarantino *is* his dialog.
Going to see Grindhouse does not mean that Rose McGowan will have sex with you.
Duh. I know that already. It doesn't stop me from thinking about it.
It’s three hours long.
What's the matter? Got a short attention span? The length of a movie doesn't matter as long as it's *good*. I've seen 3 hour movies that were too short and 90 minute movies that were interminable.
There are only four fake trailers separating the two films, and we’ve already seen most of them.
If you wanted to be surprised, you shouldn't have watched them. I haven't, and I'm going to enjoy the hell out of them.
Bruce Willis is only in Planet Terror for about five minutes.
Until just now, I didn't know he was in it at all. Thanks.
Same deal with Tom Savini.
Well, he's not really a leading man, is he?
Planet Terror is almost universally agreed to be the better film, and yet it goes first.
Seems like a matter of taste to me.
We’ve already been told about most of the really cool stuff in both films.
If you obsessively consume every piece of news about a movie before it comes out, you can't really expect to be surprised. There's a reason spoiler alerts are put into such stories.
Fergie’s in it.
I already think I don't want to be friends with you.
There is no narrative connection between the two films.
There isn't supposed to be. It's a double feature. They're two separate movies.
After this, we’re going to have to wait at least another year for either director to do anything.
It takes at least a year for any film director to make a movie. - thethresh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's one: if you think the first one looks better than the second one, wouldn't that be a good thing? Because, then you could, uh, LEAVE after the first one instead of hanging around through a whole movie? By the way - I have seen Grindhouse (premier in Austin for those with short attention spans) and I liked DP more than PT but I thought the experience as a whole was a blast!
- anachronaut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Over the past few years, I’ve developed a system for dealing with films that look really, really, really good. Grindhouse is one of those films."
Someone must've been watching different trailers than the ones I've seen. What I've viewed makes this look like one of the worst, dumbest movies to come along since Air Bud 2: Golden Receiver.
Yes, I realize it's a "tribute" to bad exploitation movies. I'm not impressed. -
