The whole "Anime is much so much cooler then American stuff because all American media is crap" is something a tween would say. Oh and the use of an all caps 'DIE' did not help. I for one look forward to it and hope it does not suck as it likely will.
- bluezinc, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3Point me to an adaption they've EVER done even close to well and I will concede you this point.
Spielburg will ruin yet another thing for me. - RoboDonut, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4I don't know.
This doesn't really seem like Speilburg's genre.
It seems more like something the Wachowski brothers would work on.

//sarcasm- Dotcommer, on 04/16/2008, -2/+20I dont know... I still have high hopes for it. I'll at least remain optimistic until I hear reviews for it. I just don't think this movie will have that great of a chance at being popular because of how many jaded people there are towards Spielberg. It could be the best movie in the world, but if everyone hates the director, psychologically, everyone's going to hate it, nit-pick it, and bash it.
- brufleth, on 04/16/2008, -1/+31Ghost in the Shell was a story about what is human and when does something qualify as alive. This movie they're making will be about shooting bad guys and tight pants.
- Supurcell, on 04/16/2008, -0/+12I happened to like A.I., also by Spielberg, which explored the same themes.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2It would have been better if Kubrick had lived and directed it.
- DrMonkeyLove, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Yeah, but you have to agree that the "happy" ending was complete and utter *****.
- bluezinc, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Kubrick did direct it... well half of it at least.
- jgtg32a, on 04/16/2008, -3/+1Yeah, I'll give you that the story itself in AI was decent but there was so much extra foolishness and too IDK "artsy" is that the right word.

- acdcfanbill, on 04/16/2008, -1/+39It will be a fail-train crashing off the fail-tracks into fail-town. No slight meant on Spielberg, but I just don't think you can pull it off better than the anime did.

- feshmania, on 04/16/2008, -2/+10Ding dong! Here comes the Grammar Nazi!
When insulting your most hated multinational corporation, don't forget:
"There" is a place, such as "there is a ***** comment".
"Their" is possive, such as "their comment is *****".
"They're" means "they are", such as "they're a ***** poster".
Remember next time, or it's the showers for you!- youMISERABLEpos, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2You fail as a grammar nazi.
1. It's spelled "possessive", not "possive".
2. You attempted to correct their usage of "they're", by using "they're a ***** poster" as an example. Problem is, you yourself used it incorrectly. "They're" is plural. You should have written "they're ***** posters" instead.
You suck.- feshmania, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1well scissor me timbers.
but there's no problem using "are" there. Because it wouldn't be wrong to say "you are a twit" would it? So they, being a reference to an individual, where saying "they is" is incorrect. "They" here is actually like saying "you," so "You are" and "They are" are our only options, aren't they? They're, being the contraction of "They are" viz a viz, et al, e pluribus, et cetera, et cetera, I'm not wrong.
Good day, sir.

- Mysk, on 04/16/2008, -4/+14No. Just hell no. GITS is a very adult, very graphic, dark, sexy, thought provoking, dare I say beautiful thing. Now they're going to Disneyfy it? Oh what the hell! Yeah, that's what we need. A toy-story version of Ghost In The Shell.
Maybe we'll even get to see Motoko break out in a cute little song and dance. Yeah, her and Batou will be bounding across the roof tops in a glorious song about what it is to be human as the evil robots chase them.
DISGUST- argaen21, on 04/16/2008, -2/+5Spider Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Ghost in the Shell. One of these is not like the other, one of these is just not the same.
The fact that something as amazing as GITS is going to be lumped into a company that has released, or soon to release, those giant pieces of turd movies makes me sad inside.

They'll try to "Americanize" the story line, make it all glitzy with tonnes of "big screen" effect and dumb down the story arcs to nil (who needs a story anymore anyway?)
This is desecration at it's highest form, IMHO... Shame really - mrbawkbachgawk, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Leave 'Ghost In The Shell' alone.. Seriously.
- cybrguy, on 04/16/2008, -0/+7My checklist:
This better be rated R, for violence and (intense action sequences)
Kusanagi must be cast PERFECTLY.
The plot must be deeper than a 5 gallon bucket.
They need to keep the culture and the tech feel
It needs to be DARK.

- cybrguy, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1With so many Animes becoming live action in the next 5 years, we are either going to see a lot of flops, or start seeing some really impressive GC/live acction adaptations. I would rather them try as long as we get one or two winners out of the lot.

Man, I just wish they would release a new season. I really need some good sci fi anime.
/yeah, I'm a dork.- TechnoDestructo, on 04/16/2008, -7/+2I don't think they'd bother to tackle the Tachikomas. As just talking tanks with cutesy voices, they'll make non-anime-fans cringe. You cannot fully develop those characters, and make them and their personalities make SENSE, in 2 hours. If they have tanks, I suspect they'll go with the original-manga and PS1 video game Fuchikomas.
I'm sure the visuals will be alright, at any rate. And I'm hopeful for the story and characters. I'm going to cringe at any changes for the sake of westernization (the name and nature of the Section 9, the location, character names, etc.), I'm sure, but for the most part there hasn't been much in ANY version of the franchise thus far that would not work as live action.
Now if they've got the stones to make it entirely faithful (to any version), keep it in Japan with a mostly-Japanese (or can pass for it...at least half the team would have to) cast, maybe even make it in Japanese...there would be no danger of it sucking then.- Dotcommer, on 04/16/2008, -3/+8lol, you have no clue what you're talking about. - Mysk, on 04/16/2008, -4/+4Just talking tanks with cutesy voices??? CUTESY VOICES?? Why did you even bother to watch GITS if THIS is all that you were capable of getting out of it? They're children, who happen to be machines, who happen to have never been intended to have a "ghost", who happen to develop their own "ghosts", who happen to be trapped inside of BRUTAL KILLING MACHINES, and all you @#$^! get out of it are "just talking tanks with cutesy voices"??
Oh yes, this Dreamworks stuff is perfect for you.- Orion682, on 04/16/2008, -1/+9It took most of a season to bring that point across in SAC, do you REALLY think they can do it in 2 hours in a Hollywood film?
- theaceoffire, on 04/16/2008, -1/+4They better damn try.
- TechnoDestructo, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1It doesn't matter what *I* get out of it or what *YOU* get out of it. It matters what someone who does not like anime, does not care about anime, does not watch anime, gets out of it.
My dad saw an episode of SAC, and saw the Tachikomas, and what he saw was just another cute talking animal sidekick. To him, there is no difference between a Tachikoma and Pikachu, and he is not going to watch 8 hours of cartoons to figure out the difference.
He also has a similarly superficial understanding of everything in this world. While that may not be commendable, he is far from alone. The fact that you need to be so defensive over what you perceive as someone maligning anime (or at least a particularly good one) is evidence of that. And if you can't get any of those people to watch a movie, well, I hope it wasn't too expensive to make. (And hell, I think there is plenty of evidence that you don't actually need anyone BUT those people)
Oh, and it had been years since I read the original comics. I'd forgotten how similar the Fuchikomas were to the Tachikomas (a bit less childlike, a bit less talkative, and a bit less curious, but fundamentally similar).
- Orion682, on 04/16/2008, -1/+9It took most of a season to bring that point across in SAC, do you REALLY think they can do it in 2 hours in a Hollywood film?

- JesperL, on 04/16/2008, -0/+10Ain't no reason to hate on yourself and call yourself a dork this is the internet there are thousands of people willing to do that for you.
As for this movie *****; ***** that. Just give Production I.G. (dudes who animated GiTS) a sack of cash and let them make something. - Sabretou, on 04/16/2008, -5/+14There were no Tachikomas in the original Ghost in the Shell. If it's going to be a faithful remake, they won't be there in it either. The Tachikomas were only added in Stand-Alone Complex.
- chubbstar, on 04/16/2008, -0/+10im thinking its more likely theyll use the SAC universe rather than the original. i think the more opened ended uh.. endings of SAC make for a a more "franchisizable" series of movies.
- moogintroll, on 04/16/2008, -0/+13The 1995 film was based on a comic from 1989 and the comic did have them. Okay, they were painted red, were called ***** and didn't look like giant toilets but they were basically the same thing.
- Orion682, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5The Tachikomas are essentially "2nd Generation" Fuchikomas I believe...
- orangetiki, on 04/16/2008, -2/+1yeah the tachis the people rode in, the fuchis are their own robot
- isolationism, on 04/16/2008, -2/+6If they were going to make a truly faithful remake, they would be called Fuchikomas (as Orion682 points out), and have a slightly different appearance; character-wise the Tachikomas are little more than slight adaptations on the design and name.
Saying these "aren't in the original" makes you look rather naive/ill informed since they make frequent appearances in nearly all of the original comics, which you obviously haven't read. You DO know that each movie is based on a subplot covering little more than a couple pages of the original manga comics, right?- Mazz, on 04/16/2008, -2/+2wow, douche bag much?
- fxu1989, on 04/16/2008, -2/+4Sci-Fi anime ?
Well, if you've watched all the previous "Macross" anime, there's a new one that started airing two weeks ago, Macross Frontier ... very good CGI.
http://a.scarywater.net/infinite-zero/- tbob19, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1I watched Macross Frontier up to ep 2.. I was not all that impressed...The CGI seemed a bit out of place and the story was not very impressive, although it could get better.
I like traditional animation for Mechs and Jets in anime.. Like how it was done in the recent Gundam 00 (and most of the Gundam series) which by the way was a very good show (Season 2 coming in October). - ThreeDee912, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I think the OP meant sci-fi, as in science fiction, not as in the Sci-Fi TV channel...

- chris8535, on 04/16/2008, -3/+39I don't understand the American market for adapting things that are already very good to begin with. It already IS a film you can rent/buy at most any store, and works because it is animated. Making it live-action seems unnecessary.

- cquinnd, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1The Japanese distinguish the difference between the live action and the animated versions (and the manga), and use it to further promote the earlier works, not to pretend that no other versions ever existed (which is a failing of the Hollywood style).
- adoggz, on 04/16/2008, -5/+2but they know what the ***** they're doing.
- brufleth, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3They can make a quick buck off it by turning it into a stupid action moving devoid of anything resembling the original point. They'll make a pile of cash and people who see it can rest assured that there won't be any morals or themes to interpret from this version.
- protogenxl, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Like what they did to Aeon Flux
- BeyondDGrave, on 04/16/2008, -2/+1English dubs are bad for GITS...not horrible as in Death Note horrible, but pretty bad none-the-less.

- ExRe, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1Live Action movies can be awesome if done right, actually, they can be much better than anime.
With how far special effects have come along I'd imagine that they could make this into an awesome movie. I just hope they don't change stuff too much, and look for people who look like the characters at least a little.- cquinnd, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4Thats like saying "3-D movies can be awesome if done right, actually, they can be much better than Black and White film". These are just methods of telling the story, and there is no universal better or worse based on the method; but you can turn a masterpiece in one genre into a crapfest in another if you don't work for the same level of quality each time the story is told anew.
- mllawso, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Most americans see animated films as "cartoons" and think watching them is a sign of immaturity.
Thus the "Anime's for awkward dorks" stereotype.

Ghost in the Shell is a few cuts above the rest of that tripe though.- savantidiot, on 04/16/2008, -0/+7There is a vast swath of anime viewing material I would not wish upon anyone for any crime. That said, animation can be an amazing medium. If you are so inclined as to broaden your viewing horizons some time:
Anything from Hayao Miyazaki, tho my two favorites are NausicaƤ and Totoro
Jin Roh (movie)
Death Note (series)
Full Metal Alchemist (series)
Def not going for an epic list, just a couple old and current favorites.- Sabretou, on 04/16/2008, -0/+8Dai Sato's works are also excellent: GitS: SAC, Wolf's Rain, Ergo Proxy and of course, Cowboy Bebop.
- fluxingtontheIV, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2actually, death note had a solid port to live action...but then again it wasnt done by hollywood. man the shinegami looked ***** awesome.
- TechnoDestructo, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1Death Note is something I'd recommend to anyone who likes anime in general, but not to someone who absolutely is not into it. It pulls entirely too much stuff directly out of its ass and is extremely melodramatic. Full Metal Alchemist (apart from being a part of that "full metal >blank< anime & manga title fad...and it was one of the imitators, BTW) is much the same, but not as bad.
I like them both, but they both exhibit traits that a lot of people who do not like anime in general, do not like about anime in general. The fact that such recommendations to outsiders rarely pan out is one of the reasons ALL anime is still stigmatized, and why shows like Ghost in the Shell or Berserk (which DON'T fall into those traps) won't find audiences who might appreciate them.
Until you get some idea what it is about something (anything, anime, your favorite styles of music, food, whatever) that someone doesn't like, you shouldn't be making recommendations to try X because X isn't like all the rest. Chances are, in most ways that matter to the person you're trying to reach, it is.- savantidiot, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1"Until you get some idea what it is about something that someone doesn't like, you shouldn't..." I agree you can't tell someone 'oh your gonna love this' without knowing them and their tastes, but I have to disagree with you about not pointing them towards a couple things by way of recommendation of things you enjoy. We are talking on a 'social' site after all, and not simply browsing a database.
MANY people when asked what anime is, have DBZ and the like come to mind. If DBZ is your cup if tea, more power to ya, but I think we all know material like that is largely what drives people away so fast they don't for a split second consider how much variety and depth there might be in this medium they have yet to explore.
"...try X because X isn't like all the rest." and thus we tell people a range of things we feel good about recommending for a mix of reasons. Here on the internets, our problem is not the ability to find information, its that there is so much information that the problem becomes knowing where to start.
All you need to do is give someone a couple starting points, if they are curious, they might toss one or two into google and come to their own conclusions, if not, no worries. There is no need to tell them reasons why and for unless they are requested.
I'm not a fan of long reviews, I think largely, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, especially with the range of subtleties that many anime productions bring with them. I'm a big fan of letting people discover their own reasons for enjoying things.
Is Death Note melodramatic at times? Certainly. Are there many selections in all forms of story telling far more melodramatic? Absolutely. Is it dramatically unlike virtually anything on screen in a fairly stark way for a number of reasons? Yes.
TBH, I think your assumptions are far, FAR to broad, and in particular, exclusive. "Outsiders", "anime in general", sentiments such as these are what drives people away. You make a far better case for NOT telling someone what they won't like, than telling them what they may.
- savantidiot, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1"Until you get some idea what it is about something that someone doesn't like, you shouldn't..." - jgtg32a, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Not always, Maybe its just me but I saw a lot of "anime" in Serenity at least, I haven't gotten around to watching FF.

- cquinnd, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Somebody already mentioned it, but the Big O was saved because of American interest in the story after the studio lost funding to continue showing it on Japanese TV. There are other
examples of Anime studios adapting to a wider market as anime became more popular outside of Japan. - KillaJazzBass, on 04/16/2008, -2/+2No Anime is anime because the Japanese SUCK at acting.
- emyo, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1I agree with LieghaThorne, have you ever heard the english translations/voice over on any animae! THEY ARE HORRIBLE! Always watch anime with its native language.
- cquinnd, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Dub work has improved to the point that some Japanese studios were adopting Western methods of recording voices for their shows. I'd rate Cowboy Bebop and Mushi-shi (as older and newer examples) against their Japanese counterparts any day.
Japanese voices are preferable to some fans in the west because it is harder to disern when they are being melodramatic vs the "standard" emotional level that western viewers are used to.

Seriously, when has this NOT been a good idea.
Oh, wait, none of those things are true. Even remotely.- TyrantJoe, on 04/16/2008, -1/+8I wouldn't go so far as to say that Japanese actors are better than Western actors, though maybe for the sake of anime films you're probably right.
- babylonian, on 04/16/2008, -2/+8I'm really startled how many condescending elitist anime fans Digg has.
It absolutely terrifies me that some of you are saying things sarcastically like "Everyone knows that Americans are better voice and live-action actors than the Japanese, and that our live-action films are much more engrossing and have deeper content than the Japanese anime counterparts!" The implication that all anime has more depth than all American cinema is stunningly ignorant and stupid. Hell, I'd go as far as to say that the average anime is more simplistic and pornographic than the average American film.
I'm not saying this movie isn't going to suck. I'm saying at least give the movie a chance. At least wait for some very basic information on it (attached director, actors, etc) before crying foul that YOUR PRECIOUS ANIME has been desanctified.

- Terr01, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3I'd like to toss PlanetES into the ring as a good example.
It's anime and set in space (or rather, in orbit) but it's also "hard" sci fi. No nigh-magical technologies or aliens, and a lot of attention to detail, even the transmission delays when characters are communicating between Earth and the Moon.
Very much the antithesis of too-many-bizarre-facial-expressions magical-girl anime.
One of the better descriptions I've heard of GiTS is that it's not just a sort of cyberpunk sci-fi, but it's also a police procedural drama. - WiseWeasel, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Like Urotsukidoji... Can never have too much tentacle demon sex...

- Kingmichael, on 04/16/2008, -0/+11No scenes were "stolen" from Ghost In The Shell. Those were just allusions. The Wachowski Brothers have been very open about how Ghost In The Shell inspired them. They're both fans as well, and just because they included a scene involving exploding watermelon doesn't mean they ripped off Ghost In The Shell.

- TheBanch, on 04/16/2008, -9/+2The animated series already "***** up" Ghost in the Shell. Even if Spielberg is behind the scenes on this one, I have confidence he'll have some artistic influence over the film. Apparently he was the one that wanted the film made. Have a little faith in him.
Also: "Anime is anime for a reason, when you Americanize it, you ruin it." Afro Samurai was "Americanized". Despite the fact that it was made in Japan and by Japanese artists, the film was made with the specific intention of making it more accessible to Americans; to "Americanize it"... and it was badass.- MillionsLivio, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5You're missing his point, you said it yourself, "it was made in Japan and by Japanese artists". Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Big O, and Berserk are examples that were made with strong Western influences but they were still great. However, if they were created in America, I doubt that would have been the case. Hell, look at Battle Royale, movie is only eight years old and Hollywood already wants to remake.
- YellowSnowDemon, on 04/16/2008, -2/+1Afro Samurai wasn't made to appeal to Americans. Afro Samurai was the way it is because the artist is a huge fan of hip hop and samurai. All this info is on the DVD of the uncut ver. Great series.
- MillionsLivio, on 04/16/2008, -0/+21First Akira last month, then a few days ago Hellsing was announced, now Ghost in The Shell. I just hope the live action Evangelion trilogy that has been in limbo for five years never get's made. What's next, live action Cowboy Bebop?
- goldfenix, on 04/16/2008, -2/+11Alas, Bruce Lee is dead. And since Cowboy Bebop was basically Jazzin' Bruce Lee in Space---
- WhiteMike87, on 04/16/2008, -0/+7ya, and use they'll Lindsey Lohan as Asuka...shudder...

I called it.- gmtwilight, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1I doubt we'll see another Shonen Jump series beyond Dragonball get the live action treatment, since Dragonball is gonna suck so hard.
- jinxplayer, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1No way, live action Trigun
- jpop, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1It's called no new thoughts in Hollywood. That's why all the remakes, sequels, and now adaptations from Anime.
- jawbreaker4fs, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1I guess Hollywood has run out of Marvel/DC comics to make movies out of?
- 1gunners4, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4The closest you can get to having a good live-action Cowboy Bepop is Firefly/Serenity, and I am perfectly alright leaving it that way.
- neko, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Live action Evangelion?!?!! I'm pretty sure that would trigger Second Impact.
- bethehammer, on 04/16/2008, -6/+10Man I hope they use Angelina Jolie as Motoko Kusanagi and Brad Pitt as Togusa and all shot in New York City with Morgan Freeman as Chief Aramaki to create something akin to Dumb and Dumberer

- rezist, on 04/16/2008, -3/+8I was a kid... I couldn't understand why they wouldn't make, "Freddy v. Jason" 'AVP" "Lord of The Rings" "The Chronicles of Narnia" "Akira" Now... they are. I hope they do it right this time.
- aaaleman, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Akira better be rated R.
Otherwise I won't ***** bother.
Also hope they base it on the manga and not the crippled movie.
If the manga is Akira's universe, the movie is a mere neighborhood in that universe.
That story is sooo expansive.

- rezist, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1wow, that was funny, really I laughed! It's funny... 50 yr. old Jews don't watch animated features from Japan. I love Jewish people, my first paying gig was shooting/editing my professor's daughter's wedding (Jewish) I live in a %95 Black neighborhood (Haitian and Jamaican) Most of my film professors are Jewish, several of my friends and co-workers, as are my realty and landlord. Ask a middle aged Jew about Akira and get back to me...
- toxicshok, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1While I have no doubt that you live in a wonderful race rainbow of a town, but you referring to Steven Spielberg as a "Jew." You have singlehandedly degraded all of his great works down to him being a "Jew." To me, you sound like the classic racist trying to justify spewing his ignorance by saying he has, the oh so proverbial, "black friend."
- rezist, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I appreciate your response... the term Jew isn't degrading. I don't wish too offend you. I spend time with Jews, and MANY other groups of people everyday ( my GF is from Japan) You seem sensitive to the handle of "Jew". I clearly painted my verbal picture... Jews are in large not fully plugged into older Japanese animated features. I can provide much proof that I'm not a "racist." Just ask. If you meet some guy in a black hat with a beard in Midwood some day who asks, "are you a Jew?" please refrain from accusations OK?

- brundlefly, on 04/16/2008, -9/+1I like a lot of Spielberg's work, but this:
"It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks."
That? That's the most canned thing I've ever heard. That's a Spiel-bot at DreamWorks' marketing department right there.
Haven't read the manga, btw, but I thought the anime movie was the most pretentious, tell-don't-show piece of crap I've seen other than the "desert of the real" scene in the first Matrix movie. Compared to it, Spielberg could bring some subtlety and artistry to it.- MillionsLivio, on 04/16/2008, -1/+7The genre has indeed arrived, anime is starting to be taken seriously as an art form around the world, just as it has been held in Japan. Adult Swim has had a part in spreading it, as well as shows like Naruto and Bleach which are attracting younger audiences to the genre. Anime's are starting to get live action movies, being marketed in the US, and surging in popularity online. It's only a matter of time until anime begins to be produced in the United States in a serious manner with heavy Japanese influences instead of the more cartoonish style American animation is used to.
- brundlefly, on 04/16/2008, -3/+2I don't doubt that anime, from a marketing perspective, has arrived. It's the reality of the quote that I question. That's clearly not so much Spielberg talking as the PR crew at Dreamworks. The way it's phrased makes that clear to me.
- PastyBabyface, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2beginning to be taken seriously? where have you people been for the last ten years. the post adv glut of ***** that continually comes down the pike is ridiculous. almost nothing worth watching is licensed over here anymore, unless it's a name so big they know they can't afford not to. and anime can't be produced in the us in a serious manner, because anime is just a foreshortened japanese pronunciation of the word animation. so "anime" has been seriously produced in the u.s. for decades.
- Sinai, on 04/16/2008, -3/+3Anime isn't taken seriously in Japan. It's for kids and weird guys who don't shower and hug body pillows with imaginary girls printed on them. There's a reason 3/4ths of the protagonists are under the age 20 you know.

- intrepidDesign, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3If they stay true to the story and the bleak ambiance could be cool, never know. I'd hate to write it off without knowing more, thats foolish.
- Mpwns, on 04/16/2008, -1/+24this movie is gonna suck we all know its gonna be pg-13 and the story is gonna be watered down so people dont have to think about it to understand it. as it is right now i will not be lining up to see this. and im not really into anime, i just like movies with a deep story line. hollywood is just gonna turn this into a summer action movie with most of the story missing.
- MillionsLivio, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3Movies with deep storyline? Watch End of Evangelion (though there are a lot of Anno-haters that would say otherwise).
- agentsarah6, on 04/16/2008, -1/+10Why does Hollywood always have to get it's claws into good Asian films/franchises?

it'll never happen...(sobs) - freshgrease, on 04/16/2008, -0/+11I'm still waitin for the Neon Genesis Evangelion Live action movie that's been up in the air since around the turn of the century. Where the ***** is my movie WETA?
- WhiteMike87, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3hope it doesn't happen...just hope...
- owenkun, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Seconded. I pray that such a thing never comes out and tarnishes Eva's (mostly) good reputation.
- MillionsLivio, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4If Mike Greenfield is anywhere near the project like he claims he is, it NEVER should be made. It would star Tiffany Grant in every female role and a CGI'd Spike Spencer as Shinji. If Anno doesn't do them then they don't need to be made. The first Rebuild of Evangelion movie is out and the other three are on the way, straight from Anno, watch those instead.
- isayre020888, on 04/16/2008, -2/+2Neon Genesis Evangelion was fine the way it was the first time around. I don't want to see a new "Rebuild" version, thats like watching the digitally remastered Star Wars Trilogy.
- Cogboy, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3I wouldn't go that far, The first one was a good condensing of the start of the story and I'm looking forward to seeing how the story changes over the next three.
- MillionsLivio, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3The next three movies will actually start to develop the story in a different direction, this isn't a direct remake, it's a Rebuild. The first movie already had some big plot differences, the second is supposed to be the bridge, the third will be the meat of it, and the fourth is an entirely new ending.
- freshgrease, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1I was real impressed with the concept art, but Tiffany Grant would be a little too much. I don't think makeup and CG could make her the 14-year old red head german (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiffany_Grant) they need for her part. Part of me wants it to comeout on the basis that it is Eva and 3d, but the other part doesn't want what might become it to ruin the image of the rest of the anime.

- aaaleman, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3When I saw that the three kids had western names, I prayed they pulled the plug on Evangelion.
If they revive the project, they need to keep it true to its origin.
Why buy a property that's immensely popular, works as it is, and then have the gall to try and 'make it better'?

- philhatesyou, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3It wasn't a remake of another film. Doing a quality adaptation of a book isn't that easy. As proof, I point you to all of the movies based on comic books, manga, or novels. A lot of them are total garbage.
