- OneLess, on 11/13/2008, -0/+24Doomsday device? Ah, now the ball's in Farnsworth's court! I suppose I could part with one and still be feared…
- Aeuta, on 11/13/2008, -1/+16They made a mistake regarding Halo. Halo ONLY wipes out all known sentient life in the GALAXY not the UNIVERSE. (Well within 3 radii of the galactic center)
Wired you just lost some geek cred.

- MakanGuru, on 11/13/2008, -1/+12Honorable mention must goto the Vogon Constructor Fleet
http://scifi.wikia.com/wiki/Vogon_Constructor_Flee ... - cyrusuncc, on 11/13/2008, -0/+9how the hell did the Core make it to the top of any "best" list?
- TheTyPod, on 11/13/2008, -0/+7Nerd-tastic. But I'm okay with that.
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -0/+6Ask Zack Snider, he apparantly is an expert on forgetting the Psionic Apocalyptic Double-Bluff Death Squid.
- aolshove, on 11/13/2008, -3/+8And finally, the 2008 700B+ bailout plan. Muahahahahah! Muahahahahaaaa!
Oh wait, that's NOT fiction. Aaeeeiiiiii!!!! - inactive, on 11/13/2008, -4/+9No Doomsday Machine from Star Trek? Fail.
No Ice9? Fail.
Halo? Fail. - Daxx22, on 11/13/2008, -2/+7What?! No ________?!
- Totz83, on 11/13/2008, -0/+5Best fictional doomsday cause = Ice-nine
a device that could cause it would be epic - asgardshill, on 11/13/2008, -0/+5Wow. Where do I start documenting the epic phail in this article?
1. No Genesis Device or Giant Flying Cornetto (Doomsday Machine) from the Star Trek universe?
2. No Gort the robot from The Day The Earth Stood Still?!?
3. That piece of celluloid fecal matter Moonraker was even mentioned? Look, I know James Bond links are being spammed to Digg at a prodigious rate recently, but c'mon guys.
4. "The Core"? Lord have mercy. What's next, the Solegranite weapon in Plan 9 From Outer Space? - kcrochet, on 11/13/2008, -1/+6No Unicron?
A planet-eating Transformer! I mean come on!!! - cubicledrone, on 11/13/2008, -0/+4"Well it's... it's miles long with a maw that could swallow a dozen starships! It destroys planets! Chops them into rubble!"
Greatest hour of Star Trek ever. The only competition is the first Reliant attack in Star Trek II - imitokay, on 11/13/2008, -0/+4I refuse to read a multi-page article.
- doctechnical, on 11/13/2008, -0/+4Agreed. Without Star Trek's Ice-Cream-Cone of Death this list is meaningless.
- RealmDown, on 11/13/2008, -0/+4They were hiding under a towel.
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -0/+3I still dunno WTF I was doing in Halo. Well, it was fun anyway. If I saved man-kind, even better. Hurah!
- SpectralSounds, on 11/13/2008, -0/+3I specifically told Zack Snyder all about the Psionic Apocalyptic Double-Bluff Death Squid last week. He felt bad.
- padraic2112, on 11/13/2008, -0/+3Buried for including anything having to do with that pile of excrement called "The Core". Buried again for passing over the giant neutronium space carrot of death from Star Trek episode "The Doomsday Machine".
- doctechnical, on 11/13/2008, -0/+3Aww, c'mon Wired, you just weren't trying. How about Colossus: The Forbin Project? Skynet? What about the Great Krell Machine from Forbidden Planet?
- imitokay, on 11/13/2008, -1/+3i agree with every comment except halo.
- GotRussian, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2The "Digg Effect" = Doomsday Device for the internet
- TjPr8r, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1say it ain't so!
- biggychong, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2Wasn't going to digg till I saw some of Farnsworth's collection on there.
Interesting fact: Prof. Farnsworth is named after Philo Farnsworth. Philo invented the first electronic T.V... and a small nuclear fusion device known as a fusor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philo_Farnsworth - fcrow, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2Just clicked on it, It wants me to enter my birthday. I'm entering 02 06 1966 guess who's!!
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2Ice Nine is from a book so... yeah.
- 2Bnor2B, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2How can any doomsday list miss the "Reality Bomb" from Doctor Who. All the weapons on the list only took out a single planet, Davros's bomb took out all of creation. {insert evil laugh here}
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7SByM_Mctw - doctechnical, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2It's real only on Coast-to-Coast AM.
- techbrute, on 11/13/2008, -1/+3Dugg for Deathstar.
Buried for no Sharks with Friggin Lasers. - ShooterMcGavin, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2The Allan Parsons Project?
- buddamus, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1I wish I had a Doom-proof Platinum Vest
- 2Bnor2B, on 11/13/2008, -1/+2If you are going to put the Deathstar on a doomsday list you should also include the planet killer Lexx.
- imitokay, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1wow man, u sound like the exact opposite of a halo fan boy. The game is not bad just because you don't like it. I don't play it anymore now, but I at least realize Master Chief has become some what of an icon to kids now days. I wouldn't say the story line is amazing, but combined with gameplay (on and offline), it gets halo high rating from most major video game reviewers. Time magazine even has it in the 2005 top 100. It's on metacritics top 10 360 games .... I shouldn't even have to argue this point.
As far as the article goes, I'd say the rings are indeed a doomsday type device, but I would not have them in the top 10. This does not mean I don't respect the game for what it is. - inactive, on 11/13/2008, -2/+3And books are often fictional so...yeah.
- supermanred, on 11/16/2008, -0/+1WHAT? No Dalek Crucible? A machine designed to take apart permanently all forms of matter... a machine which in it's second stage would destroy REALITY ITSELF?
Not even an honorable mention? - imitokay, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1yah, i have no idea how they missed that one either
- thataceman, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1The Moonraker Space Station? Really?
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1busy, busy, busy....
- buddamus, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1That was an awesome scifi must find it on torrent for nostalgia
- erichh, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1I don't think that Colossus is a doomsday device simply because enslavement doesn't equal doom.
- gquaglia, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1That movie as well as Roger Moore sucked ass.
- BobTheChainsaw, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1No skynet? I leave disappointed.
- exscind, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1No Right Hand Of Doom?
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -1/+2"extinction-bringing devices from film, television and videogames."
so....yeah. - Napiertt, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1Haha. First thing that came to my mind. I remember it from a "What if" comic more that 25 years ago. In it, some guy (can't remember many details) becomes super powerful (he was killed in the original story, but this was a "What if", which always had tragic endings) and he faced off a fleet of the entire universe and won. At the end he had the Ultimate Nullifier and used it to wipe out EVERYTHING. I remember that the Grim Reaper appeared at the end: "The Usher of Oblivion".
I couldn't remember the name of the Ultimate Nullifier originally, so I had googled that phrase which I remembered; didn't get a valid hit however. Anyway, I remembered it and was going to post it, but you beat me to it. Hopefully some comic book guru would remember this comic and point me to it. That would be nice.
Anyway, here's the Wikipedia entry on the "Ultimate Nullifier"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_Nullifier - fcrow, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1Can't read I'm getting distracted by the "Drink beer with the professionals" banner. I thought I was banner blind by now :(
- Evolve, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1Where is the Omega 13 ?
- asgardshill, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1And the music was absolutely perfect in that episode. The best ST ever made IMO.
