- ScottMitchell, on 12/11/2008, -7/+77The problem with Valkyrie is that it's too formulaic:
Boy meats Hitler
Boy tries to kill Hitler
Hitler kills boy
Like we haven't seen this move 10,000 times already. - theragu40, on 12/11/2008, -6/+62Also it has Tom Cruise in it. He's a decent actor, but I simply find it really difficult to take him serious any more, in any role.
- GVR90, on 12/11/2008, -1/+54"Boy meats Hitler"
wat - techguru2006, on 12/11/2008, -6/+56I'll still always like Cruise's acting best in Tropic Thunder.
- rdhogan7713, on 12/11/2008, -4/+52I'm surprise Cruise's character didn't actually assassinate Hitler, I mean Hollywood changes endings all the time.
- chrissku, on 12/11/2008, -3/+37Maybe in this version instead of killing Hitler, Valkyrie tries to convert him to Scientology?
- SLilley3, on 12/11/2008, -4/+30Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men, Eyes Wide Shut, and Magnolia are all pretty terrific movies that he's really good in.
- Stettenbauer, on 12/11/2008, -8/+32I just can't take Cruise seriously...Probably because he takes himself WAY too seriously. As much as he tries he is no tuff guy.Not at his height anyway, and the Scientology nonsense, ridiculous.
- inactive, on 12/11/2008, -3/+26The guy was fantastic in Tropic Thunder.
- t3hmyth, on 12/11/2008, -10/+32I find Bryan Singer to be overrated.
- sousademiami, on 12/11/2008, -3/+25Just the movies i remember him being good in: (I don't actually endorse the movies themselves, but his acting was good)

Jerry Maguire (1996) .... Jerry Maguire
Mission: Impossible (1996) .... Ethan Hunt
A Few Good Men (1992) .... Lt. Daniel Kaffee
Top Gun (1986) .... Lt. Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell - Bauer22, on 12/11/2008, -1/+23Right when you thought Hitler couldn't get worse...
- fungusmonkey, on 12/11/2008, -3/+24I tend to skip any movie starring Tom Cruise, as well as any modern movie where foreign people miraculously speak in perfect American accents. Here's a hint: If you're playing a German character, you should either be speaking German or at least have a decent German accent.
I find that I miss a lot of really terrible movies this way. - NeoCortex, on 12/11/2008, -1/+20I'm sorry, but I can't take Cruise as a German SS officer. There is a limit to my suspension of disbelief in casting.
- TheJimid, on 12/11/2008, -8/+26Aliens would of kicked Hitler's ass, Hubbard screwed you Tom.
- Shaggy3, on 12/11/2008, -2/+17I find Tom Cruise to be a douchebag.
- rabidbob, on 12/11/2008, -0/+15@TheTaoOfBill: Not just Jews, but anyone viewed as undesirable. Given that Hubbard was a rampant racist and homophobe it adds up to the same thing.

"There are only two ways to eliminate them from society,
and they do not include communicating with that person.
The first is to raise them on the tone scale...
The other is to dispose of them quietly and without
sorrow."
- L. Ron Hubbard - rawnzilla, on 12/11/2008, -3/+18Spoilers in the description? Way to go. Now I know what happens to Hitler. THANKS A LOT.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 12/11/2008, -2/+17Scientology isn't just a religion. It's a cult. And it's a cult that tells clinically insane people they should stop taking their medication and gets all these cool hollywood actors to tell people to stop taking their medication. Then they blame it on the doctors when that person goes crazy and winds up hurting themselves or others.
I mean even if you forgive all the xenu nonsense it's still a dangerous cult that sucks people dry of their money and gives people with serious mental disorders reasons to stop taking their medication. - rabidbob, on 12/11/2008, -0/+15Given that Scientology's planned future is much the same as Hitler's was I find Tom Cruise playing the part of someone who tried to kill Hitler breathtakingly hypocritical.
- FellowDroog, on 12/11/2008, -4/+18Finally someone has come out and said it. Tom Cruise is speaking like Tom Cruise. He is playing the lead role for God's sake, and he doesn't even try. Why not get Keanu Reeves to play Von Stauffenberg. That should make for some interesting dialogue, "Whoa, Dude, We have to kill Hitler!". I know some of the other actors are guilty as well but come on. The role was originally for Thomas Kretchman before the project was taken over. At least do it justice by trying to have a German accent.
"The star's neutral Yank accent contrasts with the British voices that surround him but, truth be told, it is more the Anglo intonations coming out of the German characters that sound oddly disconcerting." - TheTaoOfBill, on 12/11/2008, -0/+14Hitler meat is great on sandwiches
- TheTaoOfBill, on 12/11/2008, -0/+12Scientologists want to kill the jews?!
- awtripp, on 12/11/2008, -0/+11Top Gun and A Few Good Men. The list stops there. After that you just started to see he's the same in every role.
- kenedamick, on 12/11/2008, -1/+12The preview makes it look like a snooze-fest.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 12/11/2008, -1/+12Just from the previews I could tell this was another movie Tom Cruise over acted in.
- jayeiser, on 12/11/2008, -2/+13A 4 foot SS soldier is not too intimidating
- BlaqReaper, on 12/11/2008, -0/+10And once the Jews are killed, they will target the Muslims, Christians, Mormons, Buddhists, Hindus, etc. next. Finally the world will end with Scientology being the one and only true religion.
- apec766, on 12/11/2008, -2/+12Hitler on rye, please.
- diggapleeeze, on 12/11/2008, -1/+10WWII picture? I'm there.
- crowbar77, on 12/11/2008, -6/+15Personally i find cruise to be a very gifted actor, his personal life i don't really give a *****.
- Buelldozer, on 12/11/2008, -1/+10How could there be any tension or suspense? Everyone in the whole world already knows that the Valkyrie plot FAILED.
- haikuFU, on 12/11/2008, -0/+9Hugo Boss designed all of the Nazi uniforms. Hitler said you couldn't have an army that the people looked up to unless they were dressed well.
And you gotta admit, those ***** were the nicest dressed in WWII. - themonkman, on 12/11/2008, -0/+9No, they don't want to kill the Jews, but they do want to "Clear the World". "Clearing a person" is a long and studious brainwashing regimen that molds a person into becoming the ideal person for Scientology; void of independent thought or true critical thinking (especially against Scientology), removal of any doubt, whether reasonable or not, about Scientology. At the point a person becomes "cleared", they are essentially lost. I've known several who've literally disappeared. They have no contact with family, long time friends, former colleagues. Before they vanish, they spend every waking moment and dollar in Scientology offices and courses. Some of the most hopeless vanish off to a cruiseship called the Freewinds where they commit themselves to a 3 billion year contract of servitude to the Church of Scientology. I would equate Scientology to the Nazi's without biting my tongue even a little. Their propaganda and mind control techniques seem to come right out of the Nazi playbook.
- Jericho6, on 12/11/2008, -5/+13Cruise hate or not, this has (or had) the potential to be a really good film. Bryan Singer's done good work like the Usual Suspects and the first to X-Men movies, you like half the good British actors in the world in this, and the story is a good one. With all the production problems and delays, maybe I shouldn't expect all that much, but I'm not going to hate on a movie because one guy is in it.
- theragu40, on 12/11/2008, -3/+11I guess you're right...he's not terrible, but you could argue he's not really that good of an actor so much as he was just in some movies that I thought weren't half bad until I realized what a ***** he is.
- d2002, on 12/11/2008, -4/+12I give it 4 stars if the movie represented Tom Cruise's secret cry for help. (We'll get you out of that cult Tom, don't you worry.)
- fungusmonkey, on 12/11/2008, -0/+8Apparently Tom Cruise studied at the Kevin Costner School of Theatrical Linguistics.
- Spuby, on 12/11/2008, -2/+10My initial thought was that Xenu sent Tom as a gift a spaceship called Valkyrie (a bit like the starcraft one), and they are reviewing its functionality.
- FredFredrickson, on 12/11/2008, -0/+7Yeah, and it would have been a good movie for Tom to redeem himself in.
Tom Cruise: 'Oh, you guys don't like me? Well, I'm gonna go kill some Nazi's. And Hitler. THEN we'll see if you like me. Oh yes, we shall see.' - Chunken, on 12/11/2008, -1/+8I heard Tom Cruise doesn't even bother trying to fake a german accent in this movie. So he's a german dude that happens to have an american accent.
- eSJayBee, on 12/11/2008, -0/+7It's a shame, really. I wonder where Bryan Singer's career would be now if he hadn't done that X-Men movie which would mean he more-than-likely wouldn't have done X-Men 2 and as a result probably might not have done Superman Returns as he wouldn't have gotten the comic movie/action experience he got. Before all these comic movies, he was purely a drama director with no experience in action or science-fiction.
I really liked "The Usual Suspects", and "Apt Pupil" was a fine movie too. - Gooba, on 12/11/2008, -2/+9Well, it is a true story, so you can't really blame them for following a "formula" of the actual events.
- johnner.com, on 12/11/2008, -0/+7No doubt!!! You beat me to it. I don't see how anyone could take this movie seriously. It could have been really good if cast differently, but not it just looks funny.
- Sean42, on 12/11/2008, -4/+11I will not see a movie with that bat-*****-crazy mr cruise in it.
Scientology is a for-profit cult.
Let the scientology minions bury away. - gquaglia, on 12/11/2008, -1/+8I refuse to watch any movie staring the poster boy of Scientology. I don't want any of my hard earned dollars going to this cult.
- Myonosken, on 12/11/2008, -0/+6Not if you have a sequel where hitler's clone is unfrozen but a horrible defect has left him with one testicle and, in a rage, he kills the boy.
- AmyVernon, on 12/11/2008, -5/+11He was actually quite good in Magnolia, too. He makes an excellent supporting actor, when he doesn't have to be on screen the entire time.
- Elbryan233, on 12/11/2008, -4/+10Dear Tom Cruise,
Even though you tried to kill Hitler, we still think you're creepy and weird. C for effort, though. Thanks.
Sincerely,
The Rest Of Us. - SkippyDoorknob, on 12/11/2008, -0/+6Not sure I understand what point you're trying to make?
