- SiNN4R, on 11/12/2007, -1/+77The guy they got to play Kirk doesn't look like a good choice. He seems like he belongs on some WB show where people come to terms with things.
- orfilms, on 10/30/2007, -5/+80I'm starting to worry that this Star Trek cast is too young and has too much of a comedic background. I really hope this movie is good. I have yet to be disappointed with anything that JJ has been 100% involved in.
- Trel, on 10/19/2007, -1/+54LMFAO @ Sylar doing a mind meld
- GorfTron, on 10/20/2007, -0/+52I wonder if these poor actors KNOW what they are getting themselves into. Diggers know what I mean. This is not just a movie and a paycheck.
- lava, on 10/20/2007, -1/+47Harold (John Cho) is 35? Damn, that makes me feel weird for some reason.
- Gaarra, on 10/20/2007, -5/+49Is it just me or does this movie sound terrible? I know a lot of people have a lot of nostalgia for the original series cast, but really probably the least interesting thing a person could do in the Star Trek universe is visit the origins of the original series cast. One of the reasons people love Star Trek is that it gives us a glimpse at what a future could be and a taste of some aliens and technology that doesn't exist. Why keep going into the past? I would personally love to see them just jump another 100 years in the future or something (100-200 years past Voyager) pick a new cast, and do some cool *****. Get in some space battles, show off some incredible new technology, explore some strange new worlds. Stop coming back over and over to the same old ***** to try and squeeze another dollar out of the dead horse. Anyway, this is just a big rant, but I have always been a serious Star Trek Fan and to me this movie sounds incredibly boring. I almost hope it is not very successful just so that we won't have to endure 4 sequels in the same time period...
- rz8472, on 10/22/2007, -1/+37I'm not sure if John Cho's voice can hold a candle to that of George Takei's though :|
And the guy doing Kirk better be able to do a good "KHAAAN!!!", or the movie will be worse than that episode of Enterprise where Archer had the hots for T'Pol. - BeefBaron, on 10/20/2007, -0/+34Stealing powers is only logical.
- ThinkBox, on 10/20/2007, -0/+34normally, agreement is expressed by the thumbs up button next to the comment....
- starfisch, on 10/20/2007, -1/+34Sylar is spock?
= - themastersb, on 10/20/2007, -4/+37Sylar is going to kill them all!
- TheKrillr, on 10/20/2007, -1/+29Considering the HUGE uproar when that series was cancelled, and the huge flocking of support to raise funds to get it continued, I don't see how you can say fans hated it?
I for one loved it. It was very much different from the other series. It wasn't a utopia, it wasn't a perfect Starfleet/UFP. It showed the struggle to ACHIEVE the utopia portrayed in the later series. It depicted the human race working towards that world. And struggling to make a mark in the universe. If only they had continued the series -sigh- - johnnysaucepn, on 10/20/2007, -0/+24Maybe he just ate Spock's Brain.
- ThinkBox, on 10/19/2007, -3/+25Digg shouldnt just turn into a circle jerk. Digg quality, submit quality.
- positron, on 10/20/2007, -1/+20You mean like a show about close friends who experience a crisis of the week and conquer adversity together with some sort of morality lesson in the end? They should do a show like that, only on a spaceship... in the future!
- thebusdriver, on 10/20/2007, -1/+19he dont anything. I don't fully understand that either.
- kupa, on 10/19/2007, -0/+17Enterprise aside (personally I figure it is better as a sort of self-contained show, rather then one officially part of Star Trek -- especially after the zindi and time war stuff plus the horrible storylines they were just rehashing -- borg -- but besides that, it was a pretty nice sci-fi series) ...
Right, so aside from that, I think this wierd focus on prequel ***** should stop. The Original Series has it's place, as does the mythos surrounding it. To recast legendaries like Kirk and Spock is just insane, and it seems unnecessary.
Really, out of everything they could've done (focused on 29th century "timeline protecting federation", or maybe a star trek focused on klingons, or even make a series based of Peter David's New Frontier -- or even relaunch ds9, the books did it pretty well) a prequel just screams lameness.
It's like they are trying to grab all the original fans without realizing there are many of us who, while enjoying TOS, grew up on TNG and DS9 and later enjoyed VOY and ENT. Personally I don't really care about the original series all the much. I mean, I much prefer the "future trek" ... plus hearing little tidbits of "where are they now" in a future series (like janeway becoming an admiral) what if there were little things like "captain kira from ds9 just confirmed blah blah" you know?
Ah well. Totally geeking out here. Very hesitant over a prequel original series movie. srsly, wtf.
plus we all know that shatner is the only real kirk. - RollFizzlebeef, on 10/19/2007, -0/+16Without some serious rewrites, Shatner is NOT going to be in the movie:
http://www.williamshatner.com/Article324.phtml - Scrud, on 10/19/2007, -1/+17I'm a big Simon Pegg fan but I can't visualize him in this part. I keep seeing his character Tim from "Spaced" doing a Scotty impersonation.
- Lockhart, on 11/12/2007, -1/+15Damn, that picture of Zoe Saldana is pretty hot.
- AZTriGuy, on 10/19/2007, -0/+13I'm not that familiar with most of the new cast, but I think Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg are going to be great in their parts. Can't wait to see how Karl "Eomer" Urban interacts with his green-blooded friend.
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -0/+12Best grossing, perhaps, butr DEFINITELY NOT best movie.
That honor goes to #2 - junk, on 10/20/2007, -0/+12It is rather ironic for a show set in the future to keep going into the past.
- mackiwi, on 10/21/2007, -0/+12you guys know this is a reboot right? JJ abrahms found a way to preserve the continuity AND do anything he wants, Nimoy as old spock travels back in time to help his younger self and the rest of the crew. 10 bucks says they kill off kirk in the first 10 minutes.
- orfilms, on 10/19/2007, -0/+12shtefcs: Shouts are for saying "look at this digg story, if you like it digg it." I've only received one shout from you shrefcs, and it wasn't a story that particularly interested me. If I ever shout a story to you that you aren't interested in, I'd rather you not digg it. All I ask is that you check it out. I check out all of the stories shouted to me, and digg more than half of them.
- Me1000, on 10/19/2007, -1/+12I agree!
- keozen, on 10/19/2007, -1/+12And heck, if you feel the urge that you simply MUST post text agreeing there's this thing called a "reply button".
I'm demonstrating it now - Chaulis, on 10/19/2007, -5/+15The guy they got to play McCoy looks perfect for the for the role. They both have that suspicious 'i don't anything I don't fully understand' look.
- bigapple666, on 10/19/2007, -0/+10I went to college with Sylar/Spock, Zachary Quinto. I always thought he had an unusual look and when I heard that he'd be playing Spock, it all made sense to me. He is a great actor.
- goettel, on 10/20/2007, -1/+11Simon Pegg as Scottie is a small bit of justice in an uncaring world.
- GiggleStick, on 10/19/2007, -0/+9The magnitude of my concurrence is quite high.
- Saint3k, on 10/19/2007, -0/+9Romulans typically have names based on Roman derivatives. Nero, in this case, was an infamous Roman emperor who was most famous for dancing in the streets while Rome burned around him. He was insane, at best.
I think Bana will be perfect for this part. - keozen, on 10/19/2007, -0/+9As long as it's not as bad as Nemeses I'll be happy. It's a tough project to pull off though.
I for one was hoping that there wouldn't be the full crew in the film, it seems way too convenient that they all met and knew each other at the academy. I know I'm speculating there, some of these castings may just end up being cameos.
Ok, I'll stop geeking out now - Sheff, on 10/19/2007, -1/+9Enterprise lost its way when they started adding more percussion to the opening theme.
- smacksaw, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8What a society when Nero is known for copying CDs as opposed to the almost 2000 years of prior history about Nero...joke's on cleonm. If only Digg had a "delete my post before anyone sees it" button.
- Simus, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8yeah, completely unlike the Original Series. /sarcasm off
- Gaarra, on 10/19/2007, -0/+7Movies that open on Christmas generally do a decent amount of business. You forget the hundreds of thousands of people (like me) who travel for Christmas and once the days festivities are done, are still stuck in a town for a few days with nothing to do but check out some movies :)
- ClunkClunk, on 10/19/2007, -1/+8What, you don't think J.J. Abrams' experience on Felicity is going to be helpful for Star Trek XI?
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -2/+9Like LoTR didn't do very well with its christmas opening.
- ambrosious, on 10/20/2007, -0/+7Or just bring Firefly back.
- Hords, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6Every 5th movie is also bad. And it will reverse after every 10th movie, making the odd number movies good and even bad for 11-20. If those rules don't work then more will be made up to suit the situation.
- Error601, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6Is that from an episode they get hit by some beam that turns them into kids?
- smallwang, on 10/19/2007, -1/+7Not sure about the guy they got to play Kirk, seems a bit to young for the part. Everyone else seems to fit their roles
- poisonborz, on 10/19/2007, -1/+7Everyone (I mean anyone with knowledge of ST) is saying they should do a movie set after Voyager...
But they forget that with latest Next Gen films, and horrible Enterprise, Star Trek is currently ruined, its fans scattered. Most of the audience wouldn't understand what's going on. And with all the tech they introduced with late ST series, it would be hard to write a good and believable story (at least without tearing canon apart).
ST must be reintroduced somehow, with a movie like this. Right now I don't know if I should be optimistic or not, but I'm happy that as it seems, this time they take it serious (and that for the first time, the entire cast, including producers and staff is new). Along with an icon like Nimoy, they will be under pressure to come up with something pleasing. - inukki, on 10/19/2007, -1/+7I don't Disagree
- MacEnvy, on 10/19/2007, -1/+7First Contact is my #1. Time travel, borg, Zephram Cochran, drunken Deanna, holodeck action, the holodoc ... not to mention the actual first contact scene.
I only wish that they'd done a movie with the DS9 cast. I loves me some long story arcs. - iSmart, on 10/19/2007, -0/+5The OC in space...oh dear. Stop the insanity.
- suedepop, on 10/19/2007, -0/+5Now, not only can Spock pinch your nerve, he can also zipper your head off through telekinesis.
- skinflute, on 10/20/2007, -1/+6And Kaito Nakamura is (or was) Sulu.
- thanakar, on 10/19/2007, -0/+5Care to back up this speculation with some cited facts? Oh silly me, this is Digg, where the facts don't matter.
