- DaNuKaSAN, on 05/19/2009, -3/+28It looks like it was rendered on a PS3...and I mean that in the most offensive way possible...
- wing05, on 05/19/2009, -2/+24A Christmas Carol in CGI?
My opinion, but the gold standard is still Alistair Sim's version. - nothin2g, on 05/19/2009, -1/+171.21 Jiggahertz to render this *****?
- darthjure, on 05/19/2009, -1/+16The Muppet Christmas Carol is the best. He can't compete with that.
- mediaphile, on 05/19/2009, -3/+17Oh Robert Zemeckis, how far you have fallen.
Please, PLEASE, make a real movie again.
Your CGI ***** is, well...*****. Your strength was exciting storytelling, not SFX. Or at least, the merging of exciting storytelling and SFX. But this? Totally lame. - Hayes, on 05/19/2009, -0/+8Jim Carey's voice sounds horrible for the part. Doesn't sound old-man-like at all.
- Jackosx, on 05/19/2009, -0/+7Wait a minute... Are you telling me that you built a time machine... out of a DeLorean?
- joerad010, on 05/19/2009, -0/+6George C. Scott's Christmas Carol...now THAT was acting!
- ksgant, on 05/19/2009, -0/+6Seriously, what about the story needed to envisioned as CGI? The ghosts? They were all fine in the other adaptations.
This isn't like "Lord of the Rings" where it basically had to wait for special effects to get good enough to show massive armies and the like...this is just "A Christmas Carol".
No no...we have to update it! The kids won't go unless it's CGI! - DrCyclops, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5Is it just me or does this Scrooge look even more "Der Ewige Juden" than usual?
- OptionalPirate, on 05/19/2009, -0/+4Oh hey, I was waiting for a Christmas Carol remake! It's that kind of story you want to see in different iterations over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!
- klane, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3This really reminded me of the Diablo II cut scenes... except Blizzard did a better job.
- sindex, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3Another movie with creepy looking quasi-people that don't quite move correctly that I won't be able to look at for more than 10 minutes. Awesome job, Zemeckis. Really.
- Abdax, on 05/19/2009, -2/+5Yay, more Motion Crapture.
- darthjure, on 05/19/2009, -2/+5Please, somebody stop Robert Zemeckis!
- DrCyclops, on 05/19/2009, -1/+4It may be an opinion, but it also happens to be correct.
- CNAIF, on 05/19/2009, -1/+4Ah yes Christmas, now brought to you 12 months of the year, oh joy
NOT, ***** OFF, IT'S MAY. - Lagstorm, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3Bravo. I came here to specifically mention that version.
- xIAMGAMBITx, on 05/19/2009, -1/+4Looks good from what I see there.
- sindex, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3That is my favorite movie version of A Christmas Carol. George C. Scott was perfect as Scrooge. Some say he was "too intense" or "too mean" but it always seemed to me like that was the whole point. Hell, I've watched it in the middle of summer just because it's a good movie.
- myotive, on 05/19/2009, -1/+4Dear Robert Zemeckis,
Please go back to making real movies.
Thanks,
- Target Audience - gambl0r, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3Hmmm... they should have done this live action and put Carrey in makeup like in Lemony Snicket. He looked awesome in that, and it would totally have worked for Scrooge. Then this movie wouldn't end up in uncanny valley.
- Hayes, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3I lol'ed.
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3So you want it to be like Beowulf or not?
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3Yeah.
The only 3D movies that were hits so far were movies that couldn't be done with real life action. Toy Story, Cars, Shrek, etc.
Every movie that could have been made as life action was a flop in 3D. People go see actors as much as they go see movies, and no, actors' "voice" just doesn't cut it. - thedinomeister, on 05/19/2009, -1/+4This is a movie??!!? The CGI looks like it came from a bad video game.
- Hoogs, on 05/19/2009, -1/+3I hate what this man has done to movies. I really hope pure CGI isn't the future.
- daskatzsocrates, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2I agree!
- mimigins, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2Absolutely
- vtobar, on 05/19/2009, -4/+6I hope this isn't no Beowulf, but this looks promising.
- GiggleStick, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2To use the double negative properly, you must combine it with "ain't", not "isn't". You're throwing everybody off.
- fearthefin, on 05/19/2009, -3/+5Did they outsource Carey's voice? He sounds like an Indian guy.
- Eslamicolt3, on 05/19/2009, -1/+3Maybe this is an unfinished render. Maybe that's what they give you when you're the Latino Review, I don't know. But that looks like *****.
- pinchduck, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2If you didn't post it I would have. Scott was amazing in that role.
- pingwax, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2The entire movie is at times intensely dark and as you say, I think that is the point. This, of all the versions I've seen, seems the most relevant and the most meaningful.
- Elranzer, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2Ugh, more CGI ***** from Robert Zemeckis? Remember when he used to make GOOD movies?
If you want your characters to look like real people, use real people. If you want to use CGI, don't count on it looking realistic. I know Robert Zemeckis *thought* his characters in Beowolf looked realistic, but it was really just another obvious cartoon. - Fleagleman, on 05/19/2009, -1/+3Why is everyone so afraid to write new stories for the holidays? It's not like "Fred Claus" and "Elf" were all that horrible. At some point, the inevitable will happen--they'll remake "A Christmas Story".
- MikeMania, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2I think CGI movies that have realistic humans fail most of the time. The only successful one I can think of is Advent Children and even that was highly stylized and didn't do all that well.
- Elranzer, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2I also liked Muppet Christmas Carol and the broadway version with John Aston (TV's Gomez Adams) that was performing about 10 years ago.
But yeah, the older animated Disney Christmas Carol 9with Scrooge McDuck as Scrooge) was pretty genius. It'll likely be the better of Disney's two Christmas Carol movies. - sizzzzlerz, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2I don't know. Scrooge McDuck threw down one hell of a performance as Ebenezer Scrooge.
- Elranzer, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2Instead of using Jim Carey's live likeness, they'll have him voice a CGI version of his likeness.
Apperently they missed that Jim Carey can do good make-up (The Grinch, A Series of Unfortunate Events), even though the movies themselves weren't that good. - fxdbi, on 05/19/2009, -1/+3This is SUCH a ripoff of Ghost of Girlfriends Past!
- Elranzer, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2Muppet Treasure Island was pretty good too. Can't really beat Tim Curry.
- simplymarcos, on 05/19/2009, -1/+2It looks great...can't wait
- CSimonds, on 05/19/2009, -1/+2ANOTHER version of The Christmas Carol? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
- JoeMondo, on 05/19/2009, -2/+3Hasn't Carrey ruined enough classic tales with his ham handed egocentrism? Didn't he stink Christmas up enough with his wretcd Grinch?
Is anything gained by him playing 4 parts? Is anything gained by the CGI? - Elranzer, on 05/19/2009, -1/+2Because you touch yourself at night.
- JinxCrow, on 05/19/2009, -1/+1People : CG best works stylized or as enhancement, not as a full feature. Polar Express was painful. Why do things in CG when 80% of it can be done live action? Seriously!
(Don't get me wrong I do support the arts, just sayin', the end result could have looked just as well in live action - and if they're only slant on the story is that it's in CG, thanks for the waste of time! How many more times can this story be told in film!?) -
