- digg it
- dwaton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Does it work for the newest version of YouTube
- jla1987, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A lot of the download sites/extensions aren't working for YouTube now.
- lordthor, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8OLD NEWS, and this doesn't work.
Why do people keep posting "download movies from youtube using firefox extension" stories?
and how do they keep making the front page??
Reported as old. - snlildude87, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5why do you guys digg this? this dude stole what keepvid does.
+lame - misteryxz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@lordthor: The news about this story is the extension, which hasn't been available for yavimoya before and which adds significant extra value to their service.
@snlildude87: yavimoya came up with the scripts first, keepvid.com took the idea (or coincidently came up with the same thoughts only later than yavimoya) and added a nicer looking website, yavimoya then took their web-design. Both parties inspired each other and both the scripts and the design are important. Don't be so quick about blaming people for having "stolen" something.
- camintmier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just tried it. it doesn't work for the latest version of Youtube... Yet....
- javimoya2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7it works for the latest version of Youtube... even with flagged videos.
- camintmier, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hmm, that's odd. Meh, I dunno. If it works, good. If not, oh well.
- misteryxz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So it opens "http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php" and passes the URL. No more copy and paste. Nice. It comes with all the advantages and disadvantages of server-based solutions. Pro: they can change the scripts without users having to reinstall or update the extension. Con: they can track your usage, serve ads, etc.
- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Ads? The web has ads now? Never seen one.

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/521/ - Alphabet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2personally, i think the only reason why javimoya made this extension was to get people to his website whenever they want to download a video. True, this is a free service. But there are other extensions out there that lets you download videos, and it will appear right on the youtube site, without requiring you to load up another webpage.
- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Ads? The web has ads now? Never seen one.
- liquidjill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Isn't Greasemonkey still working fine? It still works for me.
- LegendarySock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The keepvid bookmarklet does the same thing.
javascript:document.location='http://keepvid.com/lite/bookmarklet/?url='+escape(window.location);
just keep that in your bookmarks and click it on a google video page or whatever.- Tetsuo6995, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah the keepvid bookmarklet works really well
You must just be carrefull to change the extension of the files downloaded when needed.
Works great on dailymotion and youtube. - Micrll, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I like it, when it asks where to save I just rename the file Whatever.mpg becuase I have the K-lite Mega Codec Pack and anyone of my media players can just read the file as if it was anyother file, even though its realy .flv
- bioret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1so, why dont you just leave it as an flv?
- phileplanet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thw Bookmarklet actually loads faster than the extensions pop-up window.
- Tetsuo6995, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah the keepvid bookmarklet works really well
- Mr.Scientist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4For the people who don't want to mess up their Firefox with yet another extension or who don't want to give an unrelated site the ability to log all their video downloads, there are always these bookmarklets which do it entirely client-side, work with all browsers and only require "add bookmark" for installation:
http://1024k.de/bookmarklets/video-bookmarklets.html- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Erm, it's the same thing, it still sends the video URL to the site, so if they wanted they could log it.. But are you really that paranoid about what your watching..?
Why would they..?
- Ben - Mr.Scientist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dbr_onix: The keepvid bookmarklet redirects you through the keepvid server, but these bookmarklets do all the page parsing and url construction on your computer, without involving a third party. Obviously Youtube can still log your downloads from Youtube, but it is entirely unnecessary to first send all your download urls to another site for processing.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Erm, it's the same thing, it still sends the video URL to the site, so if they wanted they could log it.. But are you really that paranoid about what your watching..?
- teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just tried it, I still like Download Embedded better for most sites, it just grabs what ever it can: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1993/
For YouTube I use GreaseMonkey scripts, and for Google Vids I switch my User Agent to Debian, that lets me download it as an .avi straight from Google. - agony, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Wow! a bookmarklet
never seen before....
no digg of course - D3adKl0wn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i couldn't get it to work, or even show up as an icon on the statusbar like it says it should... however i already use the keepvid bookmark thing and greasemonkey so it's not that big of a deal...
i just wish i could find something that would let me rip flash games from sites like mousebreaker and other places like that - mattym, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doesn't work, won't give me the option to "Save target as.." as the instructions say.
- digiital, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1watch the video
- Zanwar000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It worked for me. I used FLV Player to view the file.
- BENTON, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0This headline approved by yoda is.
- eberth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it worked!, just posted the story on my blog to spread the news!
great work Javi - webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I! Must! Add! Lots! Of! Exclamation marks! Directly! See example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exclamation_mark !
- vandalet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just used it to download all my favorite flash games from ebumsworld to my thumb drive, and it worked great.
- zivarik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i just tried it in youtube and it worked. for those who dont know, you have to change the extension of the file to flv from the htm that the program gives. (just replace .htm with .flv) and if you dont see the extension, you need to do the one time thing of going to the folder menu and click on show extension.
it works. try it again... - NJMtwtd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It works quite well with everything I've tried.
Worth a try if you're hesitant... - lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is crap, it locked up my browser twice and wont uninstall completely. The icon is still there.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Oops, that isn't entirely true. It does uninstall completely, I had uninstalled the wrong extension at first. My bad!
- SuperNick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a good plug-in. Worked for me on YouTube. I wish it had support for Apple QuickTime trailers though.
- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not sure about the ones on Apple's trailer site but usually I can just use "save as source" something from the little dropdown menu inside the embedded player in my Firefox...but might be because I'm using QT Pro?
- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just wanted to say that it works on Apple's site too. Just tried it...so yeah...get Quicktime Pro and you're good :)
- nokaagnew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I second the idea of just using the bookmarklet from http://keepvid.com
- tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1works for me.
- capitrueno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great tool, man!
- semos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0La herramienta va de puta madre, no se para que tantas quejas... Gracias Javi por tu trabajo
- jacobo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This tool works fine. Thanks javimoya, no te dejes joder por estos malparidos
- priapo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great extension, I really hated the copy/paste and Greasemonkey is a pain in the a**.
Btw, Javi Moya released the video downloader (not the extension, but the web downloader) some time before keepvid and it's clones came up. - Gollus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hola Javi! Me he hecho de Digg, solo para votarte. Que lo sepas ...!
Salud@s.
P.D.: Gracias por todo el trabajos que dedicas, para entretener y hacer más fácil la vida a los demás. - Michael24, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0More Spam from Mr Javi Moya and sect

Saludos_elchinoek* - timeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've made a .zip compilation that has all you need to download and convert youtube videos really really fast. It is made up of:
-Mozilla Firefox Version 2.0 (for those people who don't have it)
-Super (by far the best video converter I've come across)
-VideoDownloader (Plug-in for Mozilla Firefox)
-Download Accelerator Plus 8 (To speed up the process considerably and enable download)
-Easy to follow Tutorials
Here is a link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BOL5K2BU
From days of browsing and trailing, I found the combination of these programs have made the process of turning YouTube videos into finished, converted videos soooo much quicker, especially for my iPod etc. Hope you enjoy my compilation. - Emerica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Created http://www.flvstorm.com
Upto about 50 sites at the moment. - freebrowsers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And that's Why I Worship Firefox Mozilla!! The Lord of all Browsers! you can get it free from :http://free-web-browsers.com/
- jchoi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It's not working now on Youtube! Need update!
- max0211, on 05/29/2008, -0/+0YouTubeRobot.com today announces YouTube Robot 2.0, a tool that enables you to download video from YouTube.com onto your PC, convert it to various formats to watch it when you are on the road on mobile devices like mobile phone, iPod, iPhone, Pocket PC, PSP, or Zune.
YouTube Robot allows you to search for videos using keywords or browse video by category, author, channel, language, tags, etc. When you find something noteworthy, you can preview the video right in YouTube Robot and then download it onto the hard disk drive. The speed, at which you will be downloading, is very high: up to 5 times faster than other software when you download a single file and up to 4 times faster when you download multiple files at a time.
Manual download is not the only option with YouTube Robot. You may as well schedule the download and conversion tasks to be executed automatically, even when you are not around. Downloading is followed by conversion to the format of your choice and uploading videos to a mobile device (if needed). For example, you can plug in iPod, select the video, go to bed, and when you wake up next morning, your iPod will be ready to play new YouTube videos.
