- drumsnstuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The movie didn't do too terribly the first weekend, expecially against a #1 that only pulled $15 mil.

How about instead of buying the Firefly box set (which enriches Fox, not Universal), how bout you chaps encourage friends to check out the film while it is still in the theatres? - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wonder if Fox are kicking their own asses now..for cancelling this great show.
- NoTalent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wonder if DVD sales will trigger 2nd season love
- padrebuf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*****. the movie rocked. hope for another season.
- Candide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Serenity tanked? Not only was it number 2, but check out the per site money...it was number one. Flightplan played in more theaters...serenity made more per theater...hardly a tank.
- TheMadTech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There will be a sequel. The movie only cost 39 million to make plus a few million for marketing. The worldwide box office and DVD sales down the road will more then make up for a weak US box office if it turns out to not do well. Most movies drop 30% from week one to week two so next Sunday's numbers will be a good indication of how the movie is really doing.
BTW, the movie is freaking great and the wait was worth it. Fox is a bunch of dumb*sses when it comes to keeping or kicking a series. - Ravenlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And now Episode 3 is ahead of it. This we must fix, people. I already own my copy, but some of you who don't yet need to get cracking. ;-)
- jnorris441, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not going anywhere. It'll still be in the top 20 when Serenity 3: Serenitier comes out.
- TonyStark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0loved the movie, I am watching the shows now - for the first time - and I am now listening to the podcast from http://signal.serenityfirefly.com/ - well written, this kicks Star Wars and Star Trek's ass!
- zediker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Down to #3... Batman orders are higher now
- Satertek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12nd week box office numbers will be higher than the first.
I can almost guarantee it. - FuzzyBunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"What? It's #2 behind flight plan, 10.1 million and counting."
Especially good since the budget was only $45 million. - Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They increased the price of the box set... I bought mine from Amazon.com about 3 months ago for $30...
- EricBoyers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is one of the few movies that has come out in the past 10 years I'd go see a second time.
- pwrstick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1right on hazri, i'ma do that too. already saw it 3 times this weekend... jesus
- Huze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like Serenity is coming to DVD on December 20th!
http://www.digg.com/movies/Serenity_on_DVD_December_20th_ - Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Most movies drop 30% from week one to week two so next Sunday's numbers will be a good indication of how the movie is really doing."
Actually according to a friend who worked on it, it'll be opening in a lot more theatres this weekend so the word of mouth from the opening should really help it's 2nd weekend - hazri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Question: Is there a number that gets us a sequel?
Joss: I think I heard something like fifty million domestic or eighty million worldwide, that would set some wheels in motion
http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/features/serenity/page5.php - Drahknon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Ironically, Firefly as a series is an even better Cinderella story than what's at #1.
- indiefan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0lollerskates
"in soviet russia" is also a simpsons reference, brought on by the "stupid like a fox" reference. just for the record. - sir_zman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"We want more Firefly, ergo we vote with our dollars."
I agree, and I'm happy to say that I voted today! Just doing my part to help it get to the number 1 spot. I don't know where I was when the series first aired, but I didn't hear about this till they mentioned it on TWiT...checked it out from my library, and just loved the series. Purchased it today..BTW "I can kill you with my brain" - Anth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Oh yea, almost forgot...
I - Anth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I really think it will have a strong second week. I've managed to convince a bunch of people at work to go see it this weekend (on the positive review of me, and some others who had never seen the show and now are big fans - I've got 3 requests to borrow my Firefly DVD set).
- olorinpc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Where was it stated that it needs to reach $50mil domestic to secure a sequel?
- CatDaddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I wasn't a fan until I read the story on digg last week. I purchased the last copy of the box set from Best Buy on Friday and saw the movie Sunday night. I agree with one reviewer, watch the Firefly series and then go see the movie, although I think you could just watch the 1st episode and be okay.
Great series and movie!!! Thanks digg, for helping me spend $60. :) - browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Sweet. You can't stop the signal. DWEEEEE!!!*
*DWEEEEE!!! = inarticulate utterance of nerd pleasure. - geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm guilty too.. I never saw Firefly on TV, but after the movie I felt like I had been missing out, and immediately purchased the box set.
Haven't gotten around to watching most of it yet, but damn, why did they cancel it?! It's like when they cancelled Farscape :( - xVern, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0sweet, my torrent got done today.
to bad i didnt wait, it sound like a lot more people are going to be seeding now. - bunni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1'Too bad the movie tanked. Maybe the DVD sales for the movie will make for how badly the movie bombed in the theaters.'
@dfekke
What? It's #2 behind flight plan, 10.1 million and counting. - Rave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Movie was wonderful. I hope it spawns a new series.
- hazri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If you watch the first week, go watch second week. Tell your friends too. Need to reach $50 million domestic to secure a sequel
- pwrstick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yaaay
wish it was going to universal so we can solidify the second movie
boxofficemojo says budget was $39 mil btw - toolio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0dfekke:
I think it is too early to tell if the movie tanked. Wait a month and if sales have dropped sharply from opening weekend 10+ million, then you can comment. - himthatwas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0No one seems to have mentioned that the show is being shown on Sci-Fi Friday nights at 7pm. The next 3 episodes are the ones that were never aired. My guide doesn't list them as new but a quick check on the DVD confirms. The episode on this week was one of my favorites. Saffron, always a good thing!
- blogkitten, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@ searse:
I do not like Buffy or Angel - at all.
But I absolutely LOVE Firefly/Serenity. LOVE IT. - sir_zman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"The next 3 episodes are the ones that were never aired. My guide doesn't list them as new but a quick check on the DVD confirms. The episode on this week was one of my favorites. Saffron, always a good thing!"
If it's the unaired one with Saffron, than this is one of my favorites as well. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0number 3 now
- dtatom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It is number three now. But damn if the movie wasn't awesome. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in sci-fi.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I downloaded it then actually went out and bought it. Worth EVERY dollar. I'm gonna go see the movie a few more times this weekend. Make all my friends who haven't seen it go see it. I WANT a freaken sequal.
- CoSMoSYS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0GD I love that flippin show
- searse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1buffy and angel are both really, really bad. I think I will stay away from this one.
- Ninjamonk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think I'll buy it. I kept on missing it and only caught a couple of shows. What I saw was pretty good. Not seen the film yet but its not out in the uk yet.
- overaction, on 07/14/2009, -1/+0I bought it immidiately after I saw the movie :P
- NoUse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How many of Fox's shows have soared in DVD sales after being cancelled? I can't tell if Fox is stupid or stupid like a Fox.
- BigT4187, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Nice
- borb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Just too bad the movie sucked...
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hold the valley people!
I will be seeing it again this week. - FarmerCheese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well deserved too, crackin' series
- LuckyJack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease attend:
Browncoats, trolls, regulars, geeks, et. al don't turn this into another flamewar. People that liked Firefly/Serenity can be happy about this, people that didn't like Firefly/Serenity can be happy about other things.
Browncoats: Don't gloat.
Trolls: Don't troll.
And, btw... yyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy. That's great news. -
