- drewhenson, on 10/12/2007, -12/+130if you like the movies, it doesn't make you a geek. however if you are one, then you should enjoy these movies. Needless to say however, the bastard forgot "pi" in his list.

12. War Games
13. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
14. Office Space
15. Repo Man - euarchonta, on 11/13/2007, -2/+67The lack of 'Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land' on that list is slightly disappointing.
- TheRingmaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+64No Blade Runner? Surely 2 star trek movies aren't necessary.
12 monkeys is amazing by the way, if you haven't; see it. - malfourmed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+63Thank God I've only seen twelve of these. I'm not ready to go yet.
- Scopitone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+55Nice try, NERDS! This is no list without REAL GENIUS.
- randomgeek, on 10/12/2007, -7/+61I don't know why people are digging you down, but Pi is as geeky as it gets. It's MATH for Christ's sake.
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+52Where's "Pirates of Silicon Valley"? :|
- Tetranitrate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45Anyone else start multiple torrents after reading through the comments?
- davesphone00, on 10/12/2007, -6/+49Some from the old school:
Willow
Legend
The Last Starfighter
Goonies - randomgeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34Brad Pitt totally stole the show in 12 Monkeys. He is at his best only when playing a psycho.
- Negyxo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32@PimpinOnWelfare
Hackers is a cinematic masterpiece that always makes me crack up. - Frost9999, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33From a quick scan down the comments, I present you a better list! In no particular order:
War Games
Hackers
Sneakers
The Matrix
Existenz
Dark City
Akira
Office Space
The Fifth Element
Pi
Tron
Revenge of the Nerds
Weird Science
Blade Runner
Primer
Johnny Mnemonic
Serenity
Logans Run
I'm sure there are more, but I like all of the above. - celestial, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30CUBE!
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31As far as pure geek goes, I'd like to add Primer to the list. The movie infuriated me, because to this day I don't fully understand it, but I have to admit it's clever and completely geeky.
- answr42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Pirates of Silicon Valley?? Thats a classic thats a must see for any geek!
Digg me down... i just saw it below. - LucerinRed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29errrp, I've seen 14, crap, I'm on the end of my rope.
- fixyourthinking, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25I would add "Catch Me If You Can" - the story of Frank Abignail is definitely "Pre hacker generation" but just as sophisticated. Frank Abignail in real life (well portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio) is a complete geek.
- XxXoldsaltXxX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22^hack the planet!
- iamnos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22I would add Blade Runner, as well as Sneakers. Two Star Trek movies is a bit over the top, and personally, I liked VI better than IV.
- insaneMetalGear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19What about antitrust? It advocates open source. How much geekier can you get?
- Xelcius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Ultimate engineering nerd movie - Primer
Anyone seen it? - huntrm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Need some "Soylent Green" to eat while watching these movies.......
;-) - timmayk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16that's the first movie i thought would be on it before i clicked the link. that and sneakers.
- gregdlewis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I knew it would be a good list when I saw Brazil at the top
- duke_nate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18A description with "Title says it all" in which the title does actually say it all.....I'm speechless.
- thelimopit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Where's Buckaroo Banzai!? A movie so geeky, only half of all geeks have actually seen it!
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Whoa.
- bemenaker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Ok, I am going to get killed for saying this, but I honestly think Donnie Darko is highly overrated. Yes, it brings up some really interesting sci-fi ideas, but the it is so written for kids, that it loses it luster to me. It feels to me like a very highly budgeted after-school special type of movie, though it actually has substance. :)
I never saw it as a teenager, in fact, I didn't see the movie until a few months ago, (at the age of 32), and it just didn't grasp hold with me as a great movie.
Ok, I will leave it at that.
No Pi, Blade Runner, The Last Star Fighter, or The Black Hole? The Black Hole is right up there as one of the most memorable movie experiences I have EVER had. Only thing that compares to me, with that excitement as a kid, was The Empire Strikes Back. tsk tsk tsk - LordSpam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Sadly yeah I've seen them all and then when I went to look at the list of 81 I'd seen 78 of them. Wow I think I need to be looking over my shoulder for Death wearing a pocket protector.
- commiecat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Angelina Jolie? This list isn't for great movies, it's for geek movies. Cool handles, a geeky underground, silly technobabble and on-screen phreaking. What's not to enjoy? If you're making a list with Darkman and Repo Man, I don't see how Hackers deviates from that criteria.
I forgot about Electric Dreams and that's where my darn icon is from! - Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -34/+46I have a few additions that I think should make the cut:
Donnie Darko
Star Wars - The original trilogy (obviously this guy is a trekkie/star wars hater)
I guess you could add the Harry Potter movies as well. - Jiffylush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13DUNE!
Come on, sci-fi only a geek and reader could love!
I love Gilliam, definitely missing Tron, and Bladerunner not being here is a travesty.
How about the original LotR? (the animated one!) - vbrtrmn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@bemenaker
Considering that "Donnie Darko" was released in 2001, it would have been impossible for you to have "seen it as a teenager".
If you saw the director's cut, I would recommend checking out the theatrical release, IMO it is better. - commiecat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Hackers, Ghost in the Shell, Tron, BBS: The Documentary (more of a series but still worth seeing), the aforementioned Blade Runner. Those were some of my favs not listed.
- bike4ever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Cherry 2000 has to be on the list. Any movie about a guy needing to get spare parts for his robot girlfriend has to appeal to the geek in all of us.
- Troopy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Johnny mnemonic?
- spearman562, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I'll add Cube to the list. Thats fairly nerdy.
- mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15You can't make me see any of those Star Trek movies, put a gun to my head, I still won't go.
Love Shaun of the Dead though. - Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Not all good movies are geek movies...
- StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12So does that mean you own 8.75 of the 15 that were listed, or what?
- BobMysterioso, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Quiet Earth - probably need to torrent that - its fairly rare.
- MartyMcFly713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Strange Days should be on that list.
- kwisatzhaderach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Primer is one kick-ass movie. Pity not many people have seen it. And ya shout-out to existenz too
- ho0ber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"hackers is a bad movie. it's abso-*****-lutely a must see"
fixed. - shagie, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19Grandma's Boy anyone? At least for a comedy it is quite geeky.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That story is nothing but blogspam without a Real Genius mention.
- pappas215, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9no Weird Science?? wtf
THX1138
hello? - UniversityX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Oh NOES!!! Surely my life isn't complete???
15 surely isn't enough... Blade Runner, Pi, Dolemite... I mean come on... there's hundreds more to add! -
