- Vosem, on 03/19/2009, -1/+73Incredibly intelligent. Make it so that the only way people can see movies is by pirating them. Now that's thinking outside the box.
Who comes up with this *****? - buddamus, on 03/19/2009, -0/+68All this equipment like night-vision goggles to catch pirates and they don't give a crap about the kid that wont shut up
- crackpotcs2, on 03/19/2009, -4/+45I am not going to theaters, nor buying full-priced DVD's for my movie enjoyment, mostly because 90% of movies are lousy anyway.
- ABadPerson, on 03/20/2009, -1/+29Yet screeners still gets ripped and cams are still being made, all the while people in the areas that got delayed releases are downloading instead of waiting just to catch up with the rest of the world.
- yunus, on 03/20/2009, -1/+26Who actually watches those pirated copies that are taken with a video camera? The sound always sucks and the video is worse than regular TV.
- PaulHouse, on 03/20/2009, -0/+24When will they invest in a tesla coil seat that only affects the SOB behind me who kicks my seat?
- imronburgundy83, on 03/20/2009, -2/+21or the Ghetto queen on her cell phone: "Oh nah she didn't!? Whatchu do then?"
- replaysMike, on 03/20/2009, -0/+16Ways to prevent future piracy:
1) Stop delaying DVD releases for months after the theater release. Some of us just want to see the damn movie when we please.
2) Provide digital versions of the movie for legal download, same time it releases in theater (or sooner?!)
3) Camz are no worry, delaying theater releases in foreign countries where it is a problem is just going to piss everyone off more, and increase the problem.
4) Quality control in theaters - I've seen movies where the food is terrible, people are loud and using phones, broken films, and its all so damn overpriced so whats the point? (seriously, $10 for stale popcorn and watered down soda costing 25 cents?)
5) Stop being douchebags and complain when your movie doesn't profit at least $50 million. - SultS, on 03/20/2009, -0/+13So FBI has power in China?
- Darksoul, on 03/20/2009, -1/+13Theaters are over rated, for $4.99 I can watch any new released movie in HD on in demand and they always release on demand on the same day as the dvd releases. And the funny part is because I have bought movies from them all the time threw on demand Cox gives me like two bucks off so I only really pay $2.99. So what would I rather do sit at a theater listen to people talk on their cell phones and hear kids crying or people eating pop corn or sit in my living room in my recliner.?
Seriously they should just release movies right off for renting. - Zippo, on 03/20/2009, -0/+11Since when has anything every actually stopped the pirates? Considering that DVD screener copies are making their way onto the web, it's clear that there are pirates even on the inside.
- BillyK, on 03/20/2009, -0/+11You sure fooled them!
- Ismith988, on 03/20/2009, -0/+11I'm a impatient man, I hate watching the movies in overcrowded sticky theaters with obnoxious ***** ruining the experience and I don't like waiting 6-8 months for bonus features I'm not even interested in.
- morrissey79, on 03/20/2009, -2/+12this will be a sad fact to some, and awesome news to others...
Here in China the following movies were released on DVD before they were released in theatres:
Superman Returns, Casino Royal. And these movies were released on one dollar DVDs within a week of their release: The Dark Knight...actually, I won't bother with a list. They are all released on DVD within a week of opening.
One could have a collection of thousands of DVDs here by only spending a fraction of what you would elsewhere. A fraction of a fraction.
(Note: Just in case the FBI is trolling the comment section...I have admitted nothing other than what I've observerd) *wink - inactive, on 03/20/2009, -2/+11I know! The movies these days are SO bad that I will only watch them for free! THAT is how bad they are! Just terrible! THAT is why I pirate! Because I only pirate crappy movies!
- doshindude, on 03/20/2009, -0/+8the goggles, they do nothing!
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -1/+9IR cutoff filter.
Your play. - gubatron2, on 03/20/2009, -1/+8The title of the post should be:
"MPAA Supports BitTorrent:
The MPAA will now actively encourage BitTorrent downloads by delaying theater and DVD releases all over the world. " - JAGUART, on 03/21/2009, -0/+7yea, its sorta the equivalent of those 400kb porn clips from 1995.
- St0neman, on 03/20/2009, -1/+8The real treasure is watching old movies, ie, movies from 1950's and 60's. Who's with me?
- enantiodromia, on 03/20/2009, -0/+6...or they could change their business model.
seeing that most theaters don't allow you to even bring your own water, then charge outrageous prices for even the most basic supplies, it doesn't make a lot of economic sense to spend $50 to go see a movie with a friend or spouse for something you aren't even sure you will enjoy in the first place. - iamorangehat, on 03/20/2009, -0/+6I haven't been to the movies in years. I rent the dvd (maybe), the high prices and lousy plots and over paid actors and movie houses can kiss my arse.
- AmazingSteve, on 03/20/2009, -0/+5No they're lousy. I used to take in 3, sometimes 4 movies a week up until 10 or 12 years ago when we REALLY started getting bombarded with absolute ***** from Hollywood.
- bshock, on 03/21/2009, -0/+5Yay! If piracy delays releases, then maybe more piracy will lead to longer delays. If we have enough piracy, I'm hoping Hollywood decides not to release ANY of its mindless garbage.
- kinseyincanada, on 03/21/2009, -1/+6yet you will still pirate most movies. Just because something is ***** doesnt mean you deserve to get it for free.
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -2/+7Are the really lousy? Or do you just have different taste then other people?
- ryan83189, on 03/20/2009, -1/+5Just put an infrared sign doohickey behind the screen right in the middle in all of theaters that have subtitles and obnoxiously loud foreign people laughter. It would be invisible to viewers, and visible to cameras, and could be used to tell the location of the theater. If one keeps showing up, don't sell the films to them until they shape up. Screens are ***** anyway, reviewer screening dvd rips are where it is at in terms of quality. I heard they have started adding watermarks to those, but I haven't watched anything in so long that I don't know what came of that idea.
- kingatrock, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4Movies are so bad nowadays, I know people who can get any new dvds (not screeners etc) and they still don't bother because the vast majority are crap throwaways forgotten after a month. But continue being afraid of 1% of the population pirating your ***** movies and thinking that's your only problem. Keep plugging those mouse holes on the Titanic morons.
- spritom, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4It does seem like we've been in a rut for a few months on movie quality.
- sigmaman2, on 03/20/2009, -1/+5Theaters are the old business model. They are going the way of the horse and buggy. Pretty soon, someone is going to realize that more money can be made by releasing straight to On-Demand.
That will take care of the business model. Now as for the quality of the product... - NavS, on 03/21/2009, -1/+5So what you're saying is if I can't pay to watch the movie now I could just download it right away from the comfort of my home for free?
- dizavin, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4if I want to watch a movie that's about to come out in a few weeks and the country next to mine has been watching the same movie for a month because the people making the movie had the gaul to delay it's release?
there's only one place I'm going to see that movie: The Pirate Bay. people making movies these days have to realize that it's OUR money that they want, and they're going to have to play on our terms if they want to see a cent of it. - JoeHammer, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4Can we all (MPAA and the consumer) agree that a million dollars is a lot of money? Movies are making money...a lot more than most of us will ever see.
Just grow up already MPAA. - kingatrock, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4check rottentomatoes.com the majority are LOUSY.
- Blue_Eon, on 03/21/2009, -1/+4I'd believe the MPAA's claims that piracy was killing them if they weren't posting record numbers each year, even with piracy "running rampant." The price of tickets hasn't changed much in ten years and movie piracy, at least here, really only took off about 5 or 6 years ago, so, how are they making exponentially more money WITH piracy supposedly being the scourge that it is, than they were when it wasn't as rampant?
Hard to feel sorry for an industry that refuses to change their business model in order to keep customers from having a choice and that boasts record profits every year, but still claim they are the "victims." - inactive, on 03/20/2009, -1/+4I don't even bother torrenting ***** cam versions. It's dvdrip or even better bluray rip.
- imronburgundy83, on 03/20/2009, -0/+3Amen, movies are way too expensive now. My screen at home is way better anyways. Why pay $10+ to watch standard definition movies with annoying people?
- KaiUno, on 03/20/2009, -1/+4At least it's consistent with the crap they churn out on-screen.
- Cuchanu, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3You obviously haven't seen Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, etc.
- DaviDTC, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3The longer they wait to release it, the more chances of it being pirated.
- LordVance, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3I lawl'ed... like, hard...
- Matthews255, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3I refuse to watch the latest Italian Job movie, it will not live up to expectations.
Also, these films cost practically nothing! And your gettin some culture in there! - kamisama, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3100% with you, do you also cringe when you hear about a good classic being re-made?
- matt.rubin, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3So now the pirated copy will be out months before the theaters. Awesome
Just release in 1080p with a ***** of features. I don't want to download blu-ray DVDs they take forever. - imerlin, on 03/21/2009, -0/+2Has anyone of these guys ever tried downloading new films from the Internet? Cinema releases are dark, have choppy sounds and if you're remotely interested in the film; I'd rather pay to see it properly than to watch it like that.
They should be more concerned with DVD and Blueray screeners leaking. - MadLeper, on 03/21/2009, -0/+2Considering the majority opinion on Digg seems to be the "give it all away for free" business model, I don't think that's going to happen...
- MadLeper, on 03/21/2009, -0/+2I think people download them just out of spite..
"Lookit me !! I'm ***** the MPAA ! Take that you spawn of Satan !!" - YouShotMyRobot, on 03/21/2009, -0/+2I'd take a classic over any of the shiz they make these days hands down.
I save my money to buy the dvd for half the price as it would be to see a movie in theaters. Haven't come out of the theaters as satisfied these days in a looong time. - joegibes, on 03/22/2009, -0/+2This is a sad reality in Flint.
- fauxXenophanes, on 03/21/2009, -0/+2Yet many camcorder rip-offs come from the projectionist!
