- Kahnza, on 04/26/2009, -0/+41Ok I read like half the article. Lots of silly crap. People seeing the movie in dreams? Are they ***** serious?
- benroy, on 04/26/2009, -2/+32James Cameron is hands-down one of our generations greatest directors. (not to mention producer and writer)
Aliens
Terminator
Terminator 2
Abyss
True Lies
Titanic
and... Dark Angel... Well at least the first season was good.
I honestly hope that Avatar lives up to the hype. - Chooxo, on 04/26/2009, -0/+27Man, you should have stuck around for the end. Samuel L. Jackson shows up and offers the writer a place in the Avengers.
- BrownieMix, on 04/26/2009, -2/+25I keep confusing this movie with The Last Airbender film. This movie will be great, The Last Airbender will suck, they got all white actors and actresses in that movie!
- TyrannousDotNet, on 04/26/2009, -1/+22JUST A MOVIE?! was Waynes world JUST A MOVIE?
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -0/+19Wouldn't Titanic kind fall under that??
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -2/+17Nice to see James Cameron at the helm again... doing SCI-FI... and with Sigourney Weaver :)
- laguano, on 04/26/2009, -1/+15He is saying that because it's an asian themed show...
- Kahnza, on 04/26/2009, -2/+13Wait, what is this? I've never heard of it. MUST LOOK
- TyrannousDotNet, on 04/26/2009, -3/+14YEAH! white people suck!
- supertaliman, on 04/26/2009, -1/+11This movie could be groundbreaking, I trust James Cameron.
- Hybred1234, on 04/26/2009, -0/+10You forgot Aquaman.
- teamrock3t, on 04/26/2009, -0/+9you are not alone! i was pretty confused throughout most of the article...and i am pretty sure the last airbender film will be horrible
- chrisvc86, on 04/26/2009, -2/+11I find it really interesting that there isn't any production pics or even a trailer out yet, even though the movie comes out in less than a year, yet I totally understand why there isn't any too. How can you accurately show something in a 2D format entirely meant for 3D. This movie is meant to be an experience more so than a movie, so I think they're going to have to get creative on how they market this movie.
The lack of exposure does seem to be hurting this film's awareness among the general public. I mention to my friends, "Hey have you heard of Avatar, James Cameron's new movie?", and the usual response I get is, "James Cameron is doing a new movie?". Even so, once the movie comes out and word of mouth spreads, I don't think there will be to many people who haven't seen in 2 months after its been released. - Asianwaste, on 04/26/2009, -3/+12Too bad the Avatar directed by Cameron lacks Airbenders and the one that has them is directed by m night shyamalan... :-\
- Janizzary, on 04/26/2009, -0/+8He's also directing the movie version of Battle Angel Alita.
- TyrannousDotNet, on 04/26/2009, -1/+9Not so much that i would register at nytimes.com
- DemiRonin, on 04/26/2009, -1/+8But there's no air bending in his avatar :'(
- benroy, on 04/26/2009, -1/+7Normally I hate to reply to a thread from my own comment but...
"but where is Cameron's magnus opus?"
See the above six films...and pick one. They are all awesome. Especially the first four. - inactive, on 04/26/2009, -0/+6A 30 second viral youtube clip the week before it's released should do the job.
- sovietninja, on 04/26/2009, -0/+5Damn, I was gonna say brothels...
- TheBlueVulcan, on 04/26/2009, -0/+5Are they releasing Avatar in 2D as well? I imagine they'd have to, but it'd almost be a shame, assuming the 3D is a good as they claim.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -0/+5I said it with Watchmen, and I'm saying it now - who the ***** cares? Unless you personally have money riding on this movie, it's completely irrelevant whether it flops or not. The only thing that matters for you the viewer is whether or not it gets released, and whether or not it's entertaining. I mean, yeah, if we see a good movie, we want the people who made it to be successful, but hell, Citizen Kane was a flop, but that certainly hasn't affected its legacy.
- shiftkgb, on 04/26/2009, -0/+5Aside from that the kid who plays Aang does karate, where in the show its ba gua, very different and it wont translate properly.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -0/+5I thought that spot was already taken by Watchmen.
- CarStan, on 04/26/2009, -0/+5Sadly it will be much too late, because Dragonball-Evolution and Akira will have destroyed the reputation for live-action anime adaptions long before
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -1/+6As long as we agree it'll only suck because of M. Night. Not cuz of the actual story line.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -1/+5There is a movie that does just that
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Ark - wjwallis, on 04/26/2009, -0/+4No one ever talks about James Cameron's new movie
- bulbasuar, on 04/26/2009, -0/+4In all fairness, no movie has used 3D to enhance the actual movie yet, they've only used to enhance the effects (arrows flying at me), I am very interested to see what Cameron has in mind with this. He claims that the 3D adds too the movie in all respects.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -8/+12I don't know a SINGLE person who has heard of Avatar, only the most hardcore film buffs and sci-fi geeks know what the hell it is. Fox and Cameron better get ready for the flop of the decade, as sad as it is to say.
- Dukewintermaul, on 04/26/2009, -0/+4Ever see the typical staff at a cinema?
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -2/+6Do you know what would blow my mind? If it was one continuous take. ONE!
NO CUTS! - slimkevi, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3Timecode does it with 4 shots simultaneously. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0220100/
You see 4 interacting storylines, all taken in one shot. They even have to improv when an unexpected earthquake hits during filming. - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3Jim has kept a wall of secrecy up on the film for 10 years. Impressive testament to the loyalty of the people who have worked with him. Lots of RESPECT there, oh yes.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3The Animatrix was ***** sweet, what are you talking about? It nearly makes up for the fact that the other two movies blew hard on its own. I mean, the only thing I'm upset about is that the 2nd Renaissance only got 20 minutes when I woiuld've loved to have seen it as a feature-length movie in place of the actual sequels.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3You have no taste whatsoever. From now on, please refrain from presenting your opinion on anything creative or artistic and stick with whatever you do well.
- bat-21, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3http://www.nytimes.com.nyud.net:8080/2009/04/25/mo ...
- warsongs7, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3SACRILEGE!!!!
- Colony, on 04/26/2009, -1/+4You know, they already invented a way to watch movies in 3D that makes you feel like you are actually there in the same room with the characters. It's called PLAYS.
- felman87, on 04/26/2009, -1/+4I've never heard of it either and I practically live on the internet.
- Hillsfar, on 04/26/2009, -1/+4I actually read the entire script treatment some years ago (and can't seem to find it anymore!). It was frickin' awesome. I can only hope the movie will turn out as good as the script.
- Dukewintermaul, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3Did you see Monsters VS Aliens? The second shot of the movie was using one of those paddleball-things straight at the camera.
Don't ever overestimate quality in relation to cinematic gimmicks. - Philbert, on 04/26/2009, -1/+3Friend of mine was Lead Artist on this. (credited as Virtual Art Department Lead), so that has me excited to see it, but I'm also excited to see it, but I'm also excited to see him get started on Battle Angel.
- DolphinGL, on 04/26/2009, -4/+6Then you're an idiot.
- KansasCityHuman, on 04/26/2009, -2/+4Yeah dude, because you know better than Fox how to promote a film. I'm sure they just main-lined the 300 million dollars into this with no idea how to get their money back.... Dumbass.
- Guspaz, on 04/26/2009, -2/+4Sound, like colour, is getting overly used. Anything to divert attention from bad stories and bad acting. Sound is totally a gimmick. And too much sound can kill a movie, case in point: Jar Jar binks.
- bruin8uclap, on 04/26/2009, -0/+2James Cameron has almost always delivered. Terminator 1 and 2, True Lies, Aliens, all classics in the genre. The only film of his I've watched and did not like was Titanic, but that movie only made like a billion dollars (literally a billion dollars), so what do I know.
- aetherboy, on 04/26/2009, -0/+2That's nice, but see, he's a sci-fi guy as you said. This is a sci-fi movie. We like sci-fi movies. So if you like sci-fi movies, then yes, I think it would be reasonable to consider him one of the generations greatest directors.
- Kriztov, on 04/26/2009, -1/+3The TV series Entourage probably put his name out there. I don't know about other people, but I had no idea that Terminator, T2, Aliens, and Titanic were done by the same director until I saw Entourage. So now I know who he is, I'm anticipating Avatar too.
