FOX Picks Up the 'Halo' Movie!!

filmwad.com — Finally, FINALLY, FOX has stepped in and snagged up the primary licensing rights for the film. What it really means, is that this movie is going to get it's sh*t kicked in to production mighty quick.

I'll admit, sometime's I'd rather read the repurposed article because it's usually written from a fan perspective instead of the "insider" view, and extra content is added to it, but FW got it from MovieWeb who got it from Variety. I can see if this article added something new to the original one, that's fine, but this is just blatant rip off.

Also fox searchlight movies have made plenty of movies I'm sure you liked, if it wasn't for them I'm pretty sure we would never have any star wars movies.

The games have a style that make it seem very cinematic. If Bungie works closely with whoever happens to be producing it in the end (this story is only about merchandising rights), I think this movie will turn out awesome.

      Not all other games. Wing Commander was a fantastic world to play in, full of colorful characters and interesting enemies. Wing Commander III was a movie in of itself; there was over 4 hours of movie in that game, if memory serves (if not, more.) Wing Commander 4 followed in it's footsteps.

      So what did they do when they decided to make an actual movie?

      They made a ***** ass movie with Freddie Prince Junior as the main character in a crappy plot with an ending that was worse.

      Believe me, they can take any good thing and ruin it.

    While it is a step in the right direction, this does not mean the movie is back. One of the reasons the movie deal fell apart was the Microsoft demanded Fox/Universal to fund 100% of the movie but only receive 40% of the profits and NO merchandising rights. Once the movie's proposed budget ballooned past $135 million (possibly to $200 million), Fox and Universal realized the movie had to gross over $400 for them to break even and they backed out. It was too much to gamble on a movie based on game (and directed by a nobody).

    Until the marketing deals become more beneficial for the studios, the Halo movie will not be made any time soon.

PLUS, it's written by the writers of the games themselves, and Marty O'Donnell is composing and conducting the score--same as the games--which has not happened for any of the other blockbuster game-based movies.

But overall it was pretty well done; good special effects, a high level of suspense, decent acting. And although the first-person segment was a little campy, it was really a nod to all the people that have played Doom and the other first person shooters that ID software helped create. I also thought it was funny that the head scientist was Dr. Carmack =)

      I think The Rock is a pretty good actor for what roles he should play: Really big dude being a really tough guy. He does it well.

      The only real good video game adaptation I've seen is Resident Evil - and the first one, not the stupid second one.

      I totally agree with you. I've always argued about the DooM movie's good points. The people that come out and say, "oh that movie is total garbage!" need to get over themselves. Would you rather watch DooM, or watch Brokeback Mountain?

      I couldn't care less that the story didnt match the game 100%! I liked the movie, it kept me entertained.

Determined more than ever that this would be *the* Video game movie. Oh, then you saw it and were left utterly disappointed.

    Just like we're telling you so right now. Halo or not, you should learn by now that Hollywood takes what's popular and makes it into a movie not because it's quality, but because they can skimp on content knowing that people like you will flock to see it...

    Need other examples? Tomb Raider? Alone in the Dark? Street Fighter (lol), Double Dragon? (Double lol). RESIDENT EVIL? How about the up and coming overhyped Transformers? Not that it's a video game, but overhyped just the same.

    watch "alive in joburg" or "tetra vaal" (just search for "blomkamp" on youtube) and you'll quickly see why he's probably the best person qualified to direct the Halo movie. kind of strange that a film buff blogger doesn't know who he is...his stuff has made a huge splash over the past few years.
