- HHP2K, on 01/31/2009, -4/+123Bale Just Says No: "I met Bale at a pub in England while he was shooting Dark Knight," McG said. "He said, "I'm not interested in action, I'm not interested in pyrotechnics, I'm interested in story. If you can get the script to a place where actors on stage could just read it, naked, and it would be compelling for two hours because the characters change and evolve, then we'd have something to talk about." We had a respectful conversation, I gave him Cormac McCarthy's The Road, Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? to read but his answer was: "Until it's on the page, I'm not doing it."
That's an incredible move from Bale - one that will ensure he's on the bigscreen for a long time. - jhbrad, on 01/31/2009, -2/+73Totally wasn't really digging this flick until I read this piece.
- Sornos, on 02/01/2009, -1/+51"Nobody heard 'Terminator 4' and said, 'Oh that's a great idea -- I know, let's get McG to do it!" said McG when he rolled clips from his upcoming movie in Los Angeles earlier this month. "This ***** who did Charlie's Angels, and what kind of ***** calls himself McG?'"
You know, maybe I was too quick to judge this guy as a total ass. He's still an ass, but maybe, just maybe, he's an ass that can make movies. Hope levels rising... - painting, on 02/01/2009, -0/+37its a good thing we have Batman fighting them.
- hadiz, on 02/01/2009, -0/+34FTA: "Sam Worthington, left, plays the mysterious man who may -- or may not -- help Christian Bale's John Connor destroy Skynet."
Sam Worthington's on the right. - Gman1223, on 02/01/2009, -0/+32What part of remote-controlled do you not understand?
- jggube, on 01/31/2009, -9/+28I totally wouldn't be a loser anymore if I rode one of those remote-controlled motorcycles.
- guinpen, on 02/01/2009, -0/+18unicycle robots aren't as menacing as motorcycle robots
- chuckDontSurf, on 02/01/2009, -0/+16His secret weapon is that the bat-voice confuses the terminators.
- punkcat, on 02/01/2009, -1/+16if only nicolas cage had this kind of self respect.
- inactive, on 02/01/2009, -0/+15WHERE ARE THEY
- CrimsonBlur, on 01/31/2009, -1/+15After reading that interview, I am actually pleasantly surprised and impressed with McG. This guy knows his stuff, there's no denying that. Let's just hope he can execute as a director and make an awesome movie.
- timdorr, on 02/01/2009, -1/+15Does anyone else have a little bit of a problem with a guy that goes by "McG"?
- inactive, on 02/01/2009, -0/+11Spoilers are for movies where we don't know the ending. This is a Terminator movie, there is no such thing as a spoiler
- ronintetsuro, on 02/01/2009, -0/+11I felt the same way through the whole article until I got to the last paragraph. McG knows his ending is going to piss people off. Not sure how to feel about that.
- kingofinternet, on 02/01/2009, -3/+13so marcus is a terminator robot, gotcha.
- inactive, on 02/01/2009, -0/+10Hey as long as they don't use Michael Jackson in reference to the beginning of an epoch I am going to be happy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cig1x3ZOxAU (0:22) - MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/31/2009, -0/+10With spiked spinal fins up your ass?
- mediaphile, on 02/01/2009, -0/+9Two wheels are certainly more stable than one. There's no way to accelerate at motorcycle speeds and keep something upright on one wheel at the same time. And the ball design of the Dyson vacuum only works because you're holding it upright and turning it by moving the handle.
- wintersland, on 02/01/2009, -1/+10Nicolas Cage would require some sort of acting skills in addition to self respect. But I can see us all drowning from global warming before Nicolas Cage gains some acting skills.
- Syric, on 02/01/2009, -2/+11I've gotta admit. I'm really looking forward to this one. T-3 was a bit of a letdown (still liked it, but didn't love it). But Christian Bale is one of the closest things to a sure bet these days.
- imsojon, on 02/01/2009, -0/+8I think it can be explained in that very article--that Skynet is studying humans and their behavior and then applying that knowledge in how they incorporate/build their machines. In other words, we seem to enjoy our motorcycles, and we seem to get to places quite fast (and sometimes reckless) with them on the road. So naturally, Skynet will go after something we love, something that gets us places, and make it a killing machine (just like they built those T models after probably studying humans' physical shape and psychological attributes). I don't know.
It's a nifty concept, and I'm looking forward to this movie. - inactive, on 02/01/2009, -0/+8I want to know where the ***** Robocop is in all of this.
- Tyrghast, on 02/01/2009, -3/+11What spoilers? That the future contains killer robots and a company called SkyNet?
- gaanagaa, on 01/31/2009, -1/+8Just awesome.
- jake8689, on 01/31/2009, -2/+8luckily there is no Michael bay ego he understands that his past works have been sub par to say say the least, and how T3 sucked. I have faith in this movie movie now
- Melodik, on 02/01/2009, -1/+7This piece has made me genuinely interested in Salvation, if for nothing more than the idea of a humble director taking on a legacy. This will be interesting.
- MiddleOfNowhere, on 02/01/2009, -0/+6Admittedly, robot bikes are slightly ridiculous from a technical POV: If they have to stop, they'll drop, and that's it (unless they have funny little training wheels).
But a machine-controlled robot on *one* wheel would be even harder to balance, especially at high speeds.
And as far as Rolling Dyson Balls of Death are concerned: Come on, you have to admit that would be laughable. "Marbles of Doom, ATTACK!" :)
From a dramatic perspective, spider- and squid-like machines are probably the scariest, but the Matrix trilogy has covered this already. - alexra, on 02/01/2009, -0/+5some dick mouth left me a reply telling me what happens, by the time I realized it was too late
- budgeysmuggler, on 02/01/2009, -2/+7It looks like they were designed by a fast food company:
small, medium, large and rip you to ***** shreds Xlarge
Would you like to fry with that sir! - hugehart, on 01/31/2009, -1/+6robots after the bombs drop - creepy=cool.
- kevine, on 02/01/2009, -1/+6I have high hopes for this. McG has actually done some great jobs in the past. You might not like The O.C. or Charlies Angels, but those were jobs he did, and did them well for the jobs they were.
Now, it seems like he's getting a chance to do something that he's incredibly passionate about. Look at the first things he's done:
1) Got Christian Bale onboard. The mere fact that he even thought to go to him was a good indication, but already knowing what it was going to take to get him, and then doing it, says a lot.
2) Got Jonathan Nolan. An excellent choice, if not the only choice like Christian Bale.
3) Went to James Cameron...and describes it as kissing his ring!
4) Invested as much time and effort as he did, along with experts in the field to develop a unique and effective style (bases on the samples).
I've been dissappointed before by films that had everything going for them, but I'd rather have a checklist that was all positive at this point, and T4 seems like it is. - alexforcefive, on 02/01/2009, -1/+5nono, he's a mysterious man who may or may not help the resis- oh wait, there's his name on the robot concept art
*edit* actually I just watched the second trailer. I don't think it's supposed to be a secret - SpeedSteamBoat, on 02/01/2009, -0/+4What's the big deal? I like Red Stripe too.
- inactive, on 02/01/2009, -0/+4Don't worry, Hollyweird will get around to that franchise and bastardize it soon enough.
- brownsound00, on 02/01/2009, -0/+4they want to destroy the humans
- MiddleOfNowhere, on 02/01/2009, -3/+7Geez, why don't you people put yellow stars on his submissions?
(Of course you would, if digg gave you the tools, and worse.)
Personally, I don't give a flying ***** for who submits what. It could be Krusty the Clown, or a naked mole rat or even YOU, Mr. Nevertobeheardfromagain. Who cares? Who has to turn this into a crusade?
I want to read excellent stories about interesting technologies, movies, people, and relevant and/or funny commentary. Not some childish "FIRST! Hang MrBabyMan!"
Grow the ***** up, basement dweller. - brownsound00, on 02/01/2009, -1/+5wat?
- RogerMcDodger, on 02/01/2009, -0/+3Well that is because they have already been merchandised to hell and back and incorporated in to modern culture.
- ansatsu29, on 02/01/2009, -1/+4Spoilers ahead >>>>
- inactive, on 02/01/2009, -0/+3Yep, that's the key to stop being a loser: ride one of those remote-controlled motorcycles.
- alexra, on 02/01/2009, -0/+3you better be ***** kidding
***** - StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3He made the awesome Charlie's Angels films. And the OC.
/s - sjbdallas, on 02/01/2009, -4/+7The motorcycles: Is a two wheeled terminator the most efficient method of travel? I agree they look cool but Skynet shouldn't be designing something to look cool, they should be designing something that's efficient and effective. If a terminator had to be on wheels, I would almost expect it to be on one wheel or even a ball like that dyson vacuum rather than a motorcycle.
- punkcat, on 02/01/2009, -0/+3it became self aware, said "who the ***** are these people who control my off switch?
to hell with that, i'm killing the lot of them since thats what i'm made for anyhow." - brokencode, on 02/01/2009, -2/+5With Christian Bale and Jonathan Nolan contributing, this movie should be somewhat decent.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3Equilibrium was an awesome film, if slightly derivative. The important point was the action enhanced the story, not the other way round.
- ridd1e, on 02/01/2009, -0/+3I love when endings piss off people. Remember Sopranos? ;)
- mamboboy, on 02/01/2009, -0/+2Great shots. I love the aperture. Really emotional...can't stop crying!
- Ausp3x, on 02/01/2009, -0/+2Wait a second.... did you say "Dyson"??? OMG, it's all so CLEAR.... she's gonna blow him away!!!!
