And you need some serious formal education and lab experience in organic synthesis before you will even understand what the procedure is telling you. LSD is by far the hardest drug to synthesize and the entire world supply is made by just a handful of people. The 2005 raid of a Kansas LSD lab took out 95% of the US supply. If you are a chemist and have access to chemicals, go for it. A dose is only about 150ug, so one small batch will get you a good 10,000 hits.

All of the precursors are controlled substance, and even my friend with an organic chemistry degree told me he probably couldn't do it even if he had all the materials. Yeah, you might be able to get some ergot, but that's about it.
Now, as to home alternatives. The average person COULD make up some LSA from a large amount of morning glory seeds. All you need is an activating agent like lighter fluid. As an actor, I have a hard time buying mcconaughey's roles. There was some movie where he grew up in NYC, but STILL had his texan accent. The dude just can't change his accent!
