- apzdsx, on 07/07/2009, -0/+22'Transformers Magic'? They want to blow it up?
- Jerryrad, on 07/07/2009, -0/+19The way I envision this is 2 movie screens side by side (with a bit of empty space in the middle) and a giant ***** lever sticking out of the side. Every 10 seconds or so, some guy will jump up and pull the lever down to advance to the next slide.
- imikedaman, on 07/07/2009, -1/+13I was wondering when they were finally going to get around to making their own crappy version of Toy Story. I guess they were waiting for Toy Story 3 so they could ride its coattails again.
Next they're going to acquire the rights to the Dumpster trademark so they can make a movie about evil trash bins from space. - renesisx, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7LOL. This is ridiculous. Reminds me of the Minesweeper movie:
http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1770138 - numberneal, on 07/07/2009, -2/+9damn if i would have kept the one i had in the 80's, i would have made a killin' on ebay.
- djskyler, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7This has to be a 3-D movie, right? It should be a movie made to be watched in 3-D only.
- AriaNoelle, on 07/07/2009, -1/+7There are also movies based on Asteroids (there was no plot!!) and Candy Land in the pipeworks too. They need to leave our childhoods alone.
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6Finally.
- jake1337, on 07/07/2009, -1/+7Why not just throw your money away?
- DeviantDragon, on 07/07/2009, -1/+6Replicating the Transformers magic in 4 easy steps:
1. Add 1 Megan Fox
2. Film everything excessively zoomed in
3. People must always be running away from something
4. Base it on a toy that already spawned TV shows and movies that developed characters, backstory, and a plot - Colinho22, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5I don't think anyone is forcing you to...
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -1/+5Just when I thought Hollywood couldn't really get much lower...
- teamgwho, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4**Story specifics are being kept under wraps, though Kane, who tweeted his involvement during the holiday weekend, said, "It'll be like the old '80s Amblin movies: 'Goonies,' 'Young Sherlock' ... in that vein." That post has been taken down. Amblin-style movies has been the modus operandi of the Kurtzman-Orci banner.**
Young Sherlock Holmes was an original story based on one of the most famous literary characters of the past 150 years. (and also was the first film to feature a fully CGI character. Yes, I am a nerd for sharing that)
This movie will be based on a childrens toy from 20 years ago. And of all the toys to make a movie out of... I don't get it. It would be like making a movie 20 years from now based on the ipod nano.
Someone please explain to me what an "Amblin-style movie" means. - teamgwho, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4I'd pay to see that.
- mlvassallo, on 07/07/2009, -1/+4In other words they want to try to sell a toy from 2 decades ago to a new generation of kids via a 30 billion dollar commercial.
- alsazen, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3This would have potential to grow with the audience, after "Magic View: The Movie 4", it can rebrand to suit it's now grown up audience and become "Binoculars: The Movie"
"Amblin-style movie" means that it will mainly be aimed at kids, while trying to get the whole family involved but without the thought, care and attention that Steven Spielberg would actually give to a movie.. - djskyler, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Not really. They don't go for much on eBay being that a billion have been sold.
- AriaNoelle, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3$2.99! The seller's rich! http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Red-View-Master_W0QQit ...
But she's poor compared to this seller who's making an absolute fortune on 70 slides going back to 1948 and two, count 'em, TWO, View Masters. 12 whole dollars!! http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-toy-ViewMaster-with-70 ...
*Prices valid as of middle of the night
Toys used to be made durable, meant to last, unlike today's crap. The market's flooded with ViewMasters Toys of today will be the toys work a killing in 20 years because none of the crap today will last. - skoda, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3They're *really* running out of ideas..
- bubbakja, on 07/07/2009, -2/+4They should make a movie based on the old Ghostbusters cartoon/toys !
- sandersdamnit, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2They already did a Speak and Spell movie. It was called "E.T.".
- duncan202, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2This can only end in tears.
- appleseed1234, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2I was wondering which Pixar movie in the works that they were trying to rip off, and then I remembered Toy Story...
- dmcaudio, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2you must be an idiot if you keep reading the same story expecting something different.
- Sherman901, on 07/07/2009, -1/+2What the *****.
- misstingting, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1They're talking about Dreamworks the live action division, not Dreamworks Animation. It's not going to be an animated film.
- dahatecatalyst, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1.........................................Really?
- smackydoodle, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1"...will be coming up with a story from scratch, a practice that seems to be happening more and more..."
lol what?? I'd say 1 out of 10 movies are original now days. The others are remade old movies or tv series. - thejackyl, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Realistically, I think you can skip steps 2-4
- azpat, on 07/07/2009, -1/+2Voltron. Isn't it obvious? (or Thundercats!)
- terminal157, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1I don't think movies cost quite that much yet.
- marmotjmarmot, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1I have an old 'bag-style' cell phone, anyone want to talk to me about movie options?
- vism, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Can't wait for the Glow Worm and Lite Brite movies.
- thejackyl, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Buried for being a waste of time and money
- linkmandx, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1"Yes, yes, pull that lever!"
- dmcaudio, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1have you not yet learned that Hollywood has no respect for the sacred?
- thejackyl, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1We can only hope
- KMehthas, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1You're either being clever or ignorant. Either way, digging you down.
- teamgwho, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1ok, thanks for the explanation.
still think this is an uber-stupid idea though.
unless it's shown as still pictures shown side by side with a giant handle on the side of the stage, as described in a post above. - VermiciousKnid, on 07/07/2009, -1/+1In other news Pixar to make "Etch A Sketch - The Movie"
and a follow up of "Speak & Spell" - Xzelick, on 07/07/2009, -0/+0How could they make a movie based on those things.... a sequel to short circuit perhaps where the view-master is the eyeballs? Your mother was a snowblower!
- mogebier, on 07/07/2009, -2/+1Make it a porn and it will make BAJILLIONS!
- LarkStew, on 07/07/2009, -1/+0I actually think this has some potential... I imagine they'll have some kid find an old viewmaster in a shed along with some magic picture slides, and when he looks at them he'll be transported into those worlds. Which might be kind of fun in a Mr Ben sort of way?
- davincih, on 07/07/2009, -9/+2How many times am I going to have to read this same story.
