- Nandor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It just won't be...British enough!
1) No rain
2) Insufficient use of the word 'petrol'
3) No bashing of French cars (there just aren't any over here)
4) Did I mention it won't be British? - quink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone remember the American Red Dwarf pilot? Exactly.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If this angers you as much as it does me I encourge you to submit feedback at Discovery's site. Tell them that the American audience wants the REAL Top Gear!

- CritCol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Top Gear is the best car show ever. It's funny, it's intelligent, it's gorgeously shot and they drive the coolest cars ever.

We tried that with TLC when they ***** up Junkyard Wars in its final US seasons with the adding sex appeal to the show. Not to say the previous hosts were terrible. Most of them were tolerable or entertaining, but still not as good as the Cathy Rogers and Robert Llewelyn combination. - numeric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well I'll be interested in watching the US step-son of the BBC show. I doubt I'll ever stop downloading and watching Clarkson, the Hamster and Mays.
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Top Gear is the best Auto Show in the world. Hands down.
There's no way that an US version of this show would be 1/3 as good.
It's not just good because it's British it's good because it's shows some of the best cars in the world
being driven. Not just puddleing down the road by people worried about being sued by
The association of highway safety.
If you want to see sexy cars and very fun people showing them to you.
Go to any torrent site and download a few shows. Your brain will thank you for it. - loginname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The original top gear is an amazing show. Some of the camera shots are simply amazing. It's almost like every camera angle was setup and shot by an artist. Even my wife watches that show just because of how amazing the production is.
We need to let Discovery know that we will not stand for this. I'm sure that watching an Americanized version of top gear will be like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
Long live the original top gear! - ColfaxMingo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The show is good because they are so over the top English. I hope they dumb it down enough for Joe Sixpack and consists of 22 minutes of "...derrr that car looked real fast...". Why not just re-air the originals? Because that would save money, better bastardize it! This is further reason to just download it. Good game Discovery Channel, good game.
"Rule Britania, Britania rules the waves, Britain shall never never never shall
be slaves!" - stliston, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Top Gear "is" the best. The Discovery Channel aired a whole night of it last night--what a fix. I was really having withdrawls. Intelligent, funny and production values second-to-none, what needs to be tooled.
If it ain't broke..... - cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They were already in the process of dumbing down Top Gear when they first started showing it.
They would clip the segments to drop a lot of the background discussion; cut out the news,
other "filler" parts and the britishisms. And even made them refilm parts to avoid confusing
viewers with terms like "petrol" and "brake-horsepower".
The sad thing is once I realized how good the show was (and when they abruptly
stopped showing episodes in the US), I also started downloading the back episodes, and
actually enjoy the "real thing" over its watered down Discovery Channel version. Even the
almost consistent bashing of the US Automakers is worthwhile, because they do such a
good job of explaining why (many) US autos are so far behind the rest of the world.
I get the feeling this new version will concentrate on having a lot more cars from Ford, GM, Chysler etc...
to showcase. And looking at the picture on that site, I'm not sure I'd trust those guys to recommend
a skateboard, much less a supercar. - OmegaOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Something i never understand is why american channels would ever need to make 'american versions of' shows. either you liked the show and want to show it, or you dont and can go and make something else. its not like the brand name will carry any weight if your the first to import the show.
