- captainLAGER, on 04/28/2008, -13/+3Whats the context?! German Wunderwaffe?
- MykeXX, on 04/28/2008, -14/+3I'm confused.
- rspeed, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2What? How? It's an early design for the freaking cargo plane from Raiders of the Lost Ark. What's there to get?
- litfsh, on 04/28/2008, -1/+36Crazy Germans and their crazy 'flying machines'. Next thing you know, they'll be trying to take over the world.
- tubaros, on 04/28/2008, -18/+1wow its a drawing of a plane.
im assuming thats from the new indy film? if so...erm....wow?- Rheic, on 04/28/2008, -0/+12It clearly says it's from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
- mrtracy, on 04/28/2008, -2/+6I want one.
- SHuisman, on 04/28/2008, -1/+17Downward winglets......are they crazy?
- Steinr, on 04/28/2008, -0/+7yes they are!
- duniyadnd, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Maybe it's just to save space while parked??
- cjh24, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2They appear to be hinged; I s'pos it's for some sort of variable vortexy effect thing... They'll do corkscrews a lot to show off how "surpreme" George Lucas and Steven Speilberg are at that sort of thing.
- mercano, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3They look adjustable; probably taken from the XB-70. I believe the story behind them was that in order to deal with the fact that the center of lift of a delta wing moves around as you change speeds, they just changed the surface area of the wings to compensate.
- rspeed, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1I was about to say, the XB-70 had them… but that was to create a cushion of air to ride on at supersonic speeds, so I'm not sure what the point would be here.
Oh yeah, to look cool.

- 3rdDay, on 04/28/2008, -4/+1I remember seeing something like this in the brochure thingy* that came out with the original RofLA. Why frontpage?
*Buy them at cinemas when the films on. You know. Can't remember the name of the damn things. - mmoaddict, on 04/28/2008, -1/+9I'm assuming this is the plane that turned that big angry German guy into tomato soup. mmm.
- bosssmiley, on 04/28/2008, -1/+9"Danger! Do not attempt to stop rotors with face or genitals."

- Thundercat1971, on 04/28/2008, -1/+9"pare of underwear"
Me fail English? That's unpossible!
- Steinr, on 04/28/2008, -2/+1I am sure he had some star wars sketches to use for inspiration.
- PassinGass, on 04/28/2008, -9/+7My first thought upon reading the title was Raider? You mean Cylon Raider? Somewhat disappointed...
- theferno, on 04/28/2008, -7/+2In Soviet Russia plane flies yo.. ah never mind
- benroy, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3That guy in the top picture should get the hell out of the way.
We all know what happens if you get too close to those propellers. - edd17, on 04/28/2008, -0/+12The real thing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horten_Ho_229- Abomonog, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3I was going to say that the plane was based on a real Nazi design. I'm glad you came up with a photo of a real working model.
For those confused. It's the Nazi plane that was blown up in Raiders of the Lost Ark. The movie plane was based on a real Nazi design that never made it into production because of stability issues. - 0biKwiet, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1The only similarity is that they are both wings. The Ho-229 is closer to a B2 than this.

- EpicSelekta, on 04/28/2008, -1/+3Move along people, it's just a weather balloon, nothing to see here.
- Abomonog, on 04/28/2008, -1/+1Wait! Whats that green thing coming out of that balloon! :)
- Abomonog, on 04/28/2008, -3/+4It's a pre-jet age Klingon Bird of Prey.
This comment is going to burn in hell. I just know it. - Observer001, on 04/28/2008, -4/+1Hm. It's interesting, but is it /k/ or /m/?
- chromerium, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1How was the ark going to fit inside that thing? Doesn't look like it has any storage ..
- veloscaper, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3under right wing, near center of plane. its in the pic
- br00n0, on 04/28/2008, -0/+0For more great Luftwaffe WWII prototypes: http://www.luft46.com
We can clearly see where the movie designers got their "inspiration"... - DigitalQuartz, on 04/28/2008, -1/+3Hey! How about some context?
http://www.indygear.com/props/planes.shtml
This is the plane from the movie "Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark". - Thundercat1971, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4It could be just me, but I don't remember the one in the movie having a center prop.
- reflex768, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2It's not just you, the film version wound up only having two props: http://www.indygear.com/props/images/Fwing.jpg
- gordonp, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5Anyone ever see the goofy version at MGM Studios?
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1964/DSC00815.jpg- djAnakin, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Ha. Goofy is the perfect word for that.
- agentlotek, on 04/28/2008, -2/+0I just watched Raiders last night...so imagine my surprise when I see this ***** on digg no less then 6 hours later....awesome!
- OfficialJoe, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Surprise!
- djAnakin, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1I've always been curious to know if that thing would even fly.
- moonadre, on 04/28/2008, -1/+0How appropriate I am watching Raiders right now with the RIfftrax.
- diggduggDOOM, on 04/28/2008, -0/+0Well... OK, but I like the Raiders' old logo better.
- kero552, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Looks a lot like Arado 555.
