- Majupra, on 02/19/2008, -0/+15The reason there's 3 actors taking over his role is because the plot of the movie is based on Heath Ledger's character stepping through 3 mirrors into "alternate dimension" type worlds. The scenes of him stepping through the mirrors have already been filmed. Now you just use 1 actor per mirror-world as part of the "fantasy world" which includes the main character's body/voice changing as well and... voila. 4 actors, 1 role.

I cant speak much for the other two as I haven't seen as many of their movies but I think I can safely say that Depp at least has played a decent range of characters. despite this, even I am skeptical as to the choice of replacements. Hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised.

Tideland and Brothers Grimm were both terrible IMO - in very different ways. Having four actors play one character sounds like the sort of thing he would've done anyway if he'd thought of it and gotten the producers to agree to it.
