- arlok789, on 05/16/2008, -1/+30The last thing we need are more remakes. What we need is the movie where Scarlett Johanson has a three way with Kiera Knightly and Natalie Portman.
- Aquabat, on 05/16/2008, -0/+10But but.. I want Carradine and Stallone!
- arlok789, on 05/16/2008, -1/+8What? Dude! Common, she is soooo hot. Seriously. Look at this. I am showing you a photo where she isn't done up like crazy in a dress just to prove a point.
http://www.scarlettfan.com/gallery/Scarlett-Johans ... - ferrariman60, on 05/16/2008, -1/+7This is gonna be awesome. If anyone's seen the Original, Deathrace 2000, you'd probably be pumped for this movie. It's perfect for Jason Statham. If you haven't seen the original, it's worth a rent and a bottle of booze- if for nothing else to see a young, not yet famous Stallone. It's awesome.
- thirdeyeopen, on 05/16/2008, -1/+7Sounds like they took out the best part about the original; the running over of pedestrians for points (extra points for babies and old people)
- funkyloki, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5My favorite part of the original is when David Carradine (I think) steers around the old people put out by the hospital just to kill the nurses and the doctors that tried to sacrifice the patients. He drives behind this large hedge, and all you see is docs and nurses flying into the air one by one. Hilarious!
I hope they include a scene like that - inactive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4DR2K is a masterpiece, and one of the only two DVDs I've ever payed the Copyright Cabal to own.
The political satire is genius: there is one party in the America, called the Bipartisian Party (SOUND FAMILIAR?!?). savage, Swiftian wit combined with hilarious 70's Hollywood (Stallone, Carradine) make it a classic for the ages.
the asinine reporter guy getting killed at the end is sweet.
There ought to be a video game. - Corrosionx, on 05/17/2008, -0/+4Carmageddon?
- nutsackorama, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4No. You're quite wrong. I would think most fans of the original are appalled by everything Paul W.S Anderson. He's taken everything great and "B"about DR 2000 and turned it into just another ***** action thing.
- Spamcan, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Yeah, as a fan of Death Race 2000 I nearly puked when I read they had replaced the brilliant political satire with a safe and generic "it's OK because they're all convicts" plot. This movie is Death Race in title only, kind of like if they made a fantasy movie about a boy that rides a magical dragon and called it Casablanca. One positive review almost gave me a faint sense of hope that maybe the movie will be enjoyable on it's own merits if I put the original out of my mind entirely when I see it... then I remembered it's a Paul W.S. Anderson movie.
- jstem1994, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3I loved the original. That said, stop with the remakes/TV shows/books/comics/video games/4th sequels/any other copied idea.
- astrotrain, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3"The Race Is Good For America...." (but unfortunately this re-make isn't).
Now Hollywood is scraping the bottom of the barrel, making re-makes of cult movies. Whats
next a re-make of the Rocky Horror Picture Show!?
They just need to lave movies "as is". I am a Death Race 2000 Fan, and this was a stab in the back t see this classic remade. - inactive, on 05/17/2008, -1/+4 This isn't a review it's a scene by scene spoiler laden description of what looks to be the entire movie. I wouldn't know because I stopped reading it in case I want to see it.
- IamZed, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3Prisoners killing prisoners? Where's the fun in that? Bring back the old cross country race.
- herrshuster, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4looks awesome
- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I want to see an orignal movie based on the old PC game 'AutoDuel'. Anyone remember Car Wars? If gas prices continue to rise, we'll be living in the movie 'Mad Max' after a while paying $8/gallon at the pump.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I hope they left in all the ultra violence, dark humor, and social commentary!
From IMDB, re: the original:
This film appears, at first blush, as a comedic celebration of violence. But it's really a very campy comment on the use of violence in sport and entertainment, as a way to distract and desensitize the public from serious issues such as economic stress, collectivist totalitarianism, the enshrinement of mediocrity, and "minority privilege" (a euphemism for rule by an entrenched powerful elite). - Asvetic, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3So, when you became a eunuch was it by accident, or choice?
- solid12345, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2To protest them watering down one of the greatest cult films of all time I am going to plow my dodge plymouth through the crowd of people at the red carpet premiere!
- funkyloki, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Found a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pphMecGZQ_s&feature ... - jstem1994, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2I forgot. Cartoons also *cough* Speed Racer *cough*
- spawnfree, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2with the spice girls mod
zig a zig AHHHHHHHHHHH. squidge. - atroxodisse, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I watch Death Race 2000 every year for Christmas with my wife. I love that movie. I'm stoked they made a sequel.
- solid12345, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2That is your yearly christmas movie? How touching.
- solid12345, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2Well at least if we get a remake of Rocky Horror i'm sure Meat Loaf will be desperate enough to re-do his role and Tim Curry hasn't worked much lately either...
- noots, on 05/16/2008, -4/+5holy bad photoshop batman.
that promo pic is hilariously awful. - bjornski, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1This is the gaming age.
You KNOW they're going to make a game for this movie.
I hope it's as good as Carmageddon.
I'll buy it. THIS is my kinda game. I'm tired of FPS and most RTS games. I like running things over and blowing junk up! (I'm a huge Flatout 2 player now)
Strap guns on the car and let me run people over? SIGN ME UP! - Niteowl, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1That reviewer has a sordid obsession with adverbs.
- inactive, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2They did, its called GTA 4.
- burketo, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2wow......eh, i guess whatever floats your boat.
scarlett johanson all the live long day. - pauliephonic, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Really great review, it just tells you what happened for 90% of the review, then says it pretty good.
Way to go Barry Norman! - assassinave, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1*Turns on the mic* Paul W.S. Anderson is one of the worst directors in film today. I know...what am I doing right? Resident Evils? AVPs? There are NYU film students with more talent than this guy but he must do it for free cause i dont see any other way he keeps making movies.
I'm still waiting for the 80 minute film of people only falling on their balls. I know Jackass comes close but when that is released America is done. You've proven that by being excited for a remake of an okay cult classic. - cheekybastard, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1I think not, well OK maybe a little.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/may/14/ ... - inactive, on 05/16/2008, -3/+4I really love the original. Is there trailer for this one? They should have got Quentin Tarantino. Death Proof was a great short film.
- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1Exactly, and maybe a sequell with Gweneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie.
- charlietuna, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Statham!? Perfect.
- inactive, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Think of all the carbon that will be released making this film.
the horror...the horror - SunAlex, on 09/02/2008, -0/+0good, but I like original.

http://search.ashtech.info/picture - assassinave, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Maybe if you were knowledgeable, you would already know that Penelope Cruz and Scarlett are doing some kissy facing in the new Woody Allen film. I love Natalie, but Keira. Kind of creeping wanting to watch skeletons make whoopee.
- earther, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Now if only someone would do a Death Race mod for GTA...
- Malovech, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Deathrace 2000 you idiotic reviewer!
- inactive, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1 GTA4 Cinema view + slow motion = better than any movie is likely to be.
- acdcfanbill, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1Thats just a promo picture. Check out an actual released poster for Sunshine from '07. They couldn't possibly have hacked on the heads in a worse fashion.
http://www.impawards.com/2007/sunshine.html - inactive, on 05/16/2008, -3/+2What?! Scarlett Johanson was the top of that list of three, with Kiera Knightly in a close second and Natalie Portman at a very distant third.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -6/+2nice car
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -6/+2Sans the Scarlett Johanson part...I tend to agree with you.
- redrighthand, on 05/16/2008, -6/+1Has anyone watched the original movie? It's really not worth remaking.
Joe Viterbo was the only thing good about it at all and he dies.
