- Intervention, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14I can't wait. I love Nolan
- cptshamrock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11The author of this article might need to get their eyes checked if they cannot tell the difference between IMAX and standard 35mm and the encompassing experience 70mm offers.
- superfrodies, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Nolan and Bale always seem to create great movies together. I'll be at the midnight showing of this one for sure!
holy ***** batman! - Katana314, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11"To be shot"? Dude, I KNOW one of the cameramen. THEY ARE ALREADY SHOOTING.
- xrisnothing, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9That's not the joker's mask for the entirety of the movie. There is talk as to whether or not the joker will wear a mask in the beginning of the movie. If you look at the picture on the top right, in the reflection of the glass you can clearly see the joker's green hair.
- Sk8SkaNJ, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9then ask him if they shot those scenes yet.
- benb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I may have missed it, but does the article mention what happens when the IMAX shot portion is shown on the traditional screen? On an IMAX screen it morphs to full size, but what happens when you aren't watching it that way (majority of theatres)? Do bars show up on the side for those scenes?
Just curious. - cesclaveria, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6look at the picture where they are shootin, you can see the joker in all of its purple and green glory.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+5"His innovative use of IMAX cameras to film scenes in 'The Dark Knight' will allow our crystal clear images, 14 thousand watts of digital surround sound, and screens up to eight-stories tall to give Batman fans the most immersive cinematic experience in the world. "
It is shot in IMAX. He's using the special cameras, he's not just gonna upconvert 35mm. - praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+5I don't think this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d5/Darkknightjoker.jpg looks like a comic styled Joker.
- JerseyTim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Man, I can't wait for this. I just hope they don't screw up and kill off the Joker at the end. One of the great running themes of the franchise is the relationship between the characters of Batman and the Joker. To be Batman's arch enemy, there has to be some history. In order for there to be history, it has to take place over time. Multiple Joker movies, please!
- AmazingAndrex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You forget how it goes: Comic book sequels are always better. The third entries are what you have to worry about. (See X-men, Spider-Man, original Batman.)
- WolfDV, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4sweet . . I love the IMAX experience
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I thought Jake was the one that said "I wish I knew how to quitch' you!"
I never saw that movie, but that's a pretty charming comeback. - drafhk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'm guessing it might end with him being thrown into some maximum security prison to provide some closure (much like Magneto in X-men). He could always escape if the writers were to want him to.
- defy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@Intervention
Same! Would be great to have a filmography like his. The Prestige, Batman Begins, and one of my favorite movies: Memento.
Can't wait to see what he does with Joker. - an0nymous, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Arkham, of course.
- KnightMareInc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I dont know about that, the second Blade was pretty crappy.
- pitfallharry, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There better be at least a dozen or so smiling fish in this one...
- jmdajr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1it seems the author doesn't even know what IMAX is
- KnightMareInc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Im really hoping they dont screw this up in typical sequal fashion., I loved the first one.
- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4LOL not sure who said what. Hated Cowboy movies as a kid and definately not wanting to see one about Gay ones though I am sure South Park got the idea from that book.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Yeah I know, but he starts out with a mask.
- jmdajr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yup, that guy is just silly
- porterfield, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is amazing news. Nolan's one of the best directors around, and doing this in IMAX is just going to make the experience that much better.
- Kronos6948, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I haven't gone to see a movie in IMAX since the Omniverse theater first came here in Philly. I went and saw Blue Planet, and while it was a great experience, I couldn't get over the fact that certain things looked bent due to the curvature of the screen. The one scene in particular had the earth dead ahead, with the shuttle above me, and the shuttle was bent like a banana. Brought me out of immersion immediately.
- Boofster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

IN this site you can download Over 1000 Full-Length Movies Available Instantly! - S4MF1SHER, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That sounds pretty cool. Too bad my motion sickness makes Imax not very fun.
- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I am just wondering if Ledger can pull it off. I don't see him as Joker Material to be honest.
- unseenvision, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Awesome. I can't wait.
- mfdave87, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Haha, did anyone else see one of the comments on the board for the story about how some comic shops were pissed about the Joker marketing on http://www.uttmn.com/dark+knight.php?
Here it is:
"Comment from: BlueFalcon [Visitor]
i agree with you Robert. i bet people like Spidey thought that it was funny when those "Aqua Teen Hunger force" signs where hung under a bridge & other places that were seen in public. i guess people like Spidey forgot about what happened on 9/11 or didn't care that 3,000 innocent people were killed on that day. to people like him, it's just a joke, they don't care if it was another terrorist attack, since people like Spidey support Al-Qaeda rather then our own country.

I gave this guy the award for the most straight-up redneck and ignorant statement I've probably ever heard in my entire life. - bruin8uclap, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I saw the first film in IMAX, and I don't think it lent itself to the format at all. The fights were filmed in a way where every punch and kick was up close and right in your face. I couldn't really even tell what was going on. A movie like Spider-man 3, with its expansive sweeping shots of the city while Spider-man swings through the air was a much better experience (in IMAX and not saying anything about the quality of the film). All I know is, if I do happen to see the Dark Knight in Imax, I will make sure to get the furthest seats away from the screen.
- ZergyPoo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Too bad the joker is being played by Heath Ledger...
- Schizzlefuzz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Cinerama > IMAX
- grey580, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0man i remember when the dark knight books first came out in the book stores.
it was the best thing to happen to comics.
http://www.uttmn.com/dark+knight.php - sakuraz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1What about the immersive description of sceneries with adjectives full of life?
Amazing and "believable" effects make it more immersive, and there's no doubt about that.
Just because it's filled with CGs and special effects doesn't make the movie trash.
Neither should filming them on IMAX format do.
If you have extra bucks and you have high hopes, you can get a better experience.
If you don't, you can just ignore and watch from a normal cinema or DVD.
What's so bad about that?
The movie's still the same. - rcran, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4I know! It looks really good I think. I mean, it's pretty easy to beat this:
http://home.comcast.net/~jcampdesign/Joker_A.jpg - HanSolo69, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1i love the Snorg T's girl.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1I love Batman!
And those screens are almost exactly what I had hoped for. Except instead of a bald mask, I wanted some crazy, frizzy and staticy, green hair over it. - sark666, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4Not shot in IMAX
"Batman Begins" was the first action feature to play on IMAX screens in museums as well as multiplexes, after being digitally remastered for the IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR® technology.
They just upscale it digitally. It's basically a resizing algorithm, there's no actual extra detail. Next to nothing seems to be actually shot in IMAX format anymore. It's a much bigger print than standard film and if you've ever seen something actually shot in imax, the detail is just stunning.
Hell, even all 3d movies like the polar express weren't actually in imax, they used the same dmr tech. And obviously, with a 3d film they could have rerendered it for a higher resolution.
Here's a pic showing the size difference:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Imaxcomparison.png
Here's another bit from the wiki:
Reviewers have generally praised the results of the DMR blowup process, which have superior visual and auditory impact to the same films projected in 35 mm. Many large format film industry professionals point out, however, that DMR blowups are not comparable to films created directly in the 70 mm 15-perf IMAX format. They note that the decline of Cinerama coincided roughly with the supersession of the original process with a simplified, reduced-cost, technically inferior version, and view DMR with alarm. IMAX originally reserved the phrase "the IMAX experience" for true 70 mm productions, but now allows its use on DMR productions as well. However, IMAX DMR versions of commercial Hollywood films are generally popular with audiences, with many people choosing to pay more than standard admission to see the IMAX version.
I'd just like to see something actually shot in imax for a change. And I've seen IMAX HD once (48 fps). Now that was amazing. - blumph, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3i would have thought creating the most "immersive cinema experience" would have pertained to plot, not visual effects. books aren't exactly imax quality visually but they still seem to immerse people. my 1/2150953500000000 cents of the iraq war (2 cents)
- brianwesleyan, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Dark Knight, not to be confused with Black Knight [ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265087/ ]
- jevb007, on 10/11/2007, -5/+0Batman Begins was a terrible movie. Stupid fanboys think it is great because it is a "dark" Batman movie, which is how they imagine their hero is properly characterized. Of course, that's hardly accurate over his entire run, but it's not really relevant. The point is, the movie had an awful script that was pretty much a cliche action movie only with a mask. The dialog was terrible, and the plot was an insult to Frank Miller's Year One. I will not watch this movie.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -8/+1Does anyone really care about the IMax thing? I stopped going to IMax when it shot up in price from minus 10 to 14ish. Dark Knight arbitrarily switching resolutions isn't enough to sell me on that price tag, particularly considering the fact the last movies I saw on IMax were hard to see all at once anyhow.
This announcement is amazing for one reason, it includes a picture of Heath Ledger looking damn comic book style Joker. - Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -12/+2Can Ledger really pull off the Joker after Brokeback? I mean I can't see the Joker saying "why can't I quit you?" to Batman. :)
