- Dysarthria, on 11/07/2007, -4/+140If the writing keeps up, he'll be the best Bond since Connery.
- CreativeFilm, on 11/06/2007, -5/+84I think the biggest question is can he repeat his success in Casino Royale.
- misfitpanda, on 10/30/2007, -6/+65Connery > Craig
But damn it he is so close! - inactive, on 10/29/2007, -1/+48If you like Craig as Bond, rent a film called 'LayerCake'.
- f4nt0m4s, on 10/30/2007, -3/+28Connery was able to balance the action and the humor. The classic Connery movies had lots of gags and jokes. So, maybe Pierce took the jokes and one liners wayyyyyy over the top, but Casino Royale was just a tad bit too serious for me. I hope next time Bond lightens up a bit. On the other hand, Casino Royale was a badass action film. My chest hair grew 2 inches after watching it. And Daniel Craig has the world's sexiest shoulder muscles.
- monjorob, on 11/01/2007, -5/+28why do people like roger moore? He's a skinny white guy that looks 55 and if he fell down he would break a hip. I think Craig is the best bond besides connery.
- gothicform, on 10/30/2007, -1/+24I don't care how many Bond films he makes and how he shapes up to other bonds as long as he keeps so much kicking arse he could own Chuck Norris. He did this in Casino Royale, long may it continue.
- DrAtheist, on 10/30/2007, -2/+22Daniel Craig in Casino Royale is to James Bond what Christian Bale in Batman Begins was to the Batman series. A complete turn around away from cheesy mediocre crap into dark, compelling more real films. I've never seen a Bond at the cinema, I always thought it was ok as a kid and would watch it on TV, and only bought Royale on DVD because it was selling for £007 on release day. I'll be at all of Craigs Bond films at the cinema for sure.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+19its not entirely up to him. royale was great because it focused on the story without silly gadgets...
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/30/2007, -2/+19Disagree. i thought CR was going to be crap but I was surprised at not only his portrayal of the role, but the movie as a whole.
- spongman, on 10/29/2007, -1/+14yeah, given good scripts Craig will shine, but unfortunately the bond franchise has too often favored big stunts & effects over storyline. to see Craig at his best, check out Layer Cake
- icedevil6, on 10/29/2007, -0/+13It's relevant because it's also an action movie where you can see more of his acting. The article regards Craig just as much as the Bond series.
- monjorob, on 10/30/2007, -3/+15I don't think he was bad, He just got put in the stupidest ***** bond movies EVER.
- opiniastrous, on 10/30/2007, -1/+13Where do you live? The Sahara? A portable defibrillator (not defilibrator) is not exactly science fiction...
- Modulo, on 11/07/2007, -2/+13You've had roughly 14-18 films worth of 2-dimensional, tounge-in-cheek spy fantasies of a retarded 11 year old. Please, feel free to masturbate to those while we enjoy this new re-imagining of the franchise into being something composed of "competently made films" kthx.
- monjorob, on 10/29/2007, -0/+11Tell that to Ian Flemming who wrote the original novel that the movie was based on. And seriously. It's better than a villain who builds a big air ship with a laser on it to start a war between north and south Korea! Royal had the best dialog, the best character development, and the best action sequences of the last TEN bond movies.
- scallon, on 10/30/2007, -1/+10He could have been. I mean he played Thomas Crown so well, and the characters are close. Goldeneye was good, but other than that his bonds were easily the worst. Probably more the fault of the writers than Brosnan though.
- gudnbluts, on 11/11/2007, -0/+9Ever since Dalton took over, I've been saying the only way to resurrect the Bond series is to start again and copy the books. The world tour with gadgets and pantomime bad-guys thing wore really thin with Roger Moore, and by that point it had basically been done to death and was just rehashing the same old crap.
Go back to the books, make him the cold blooded misogynist, and add some grittiness.
Casino Royale was a huge jump in the right direction for me. - Burninsensation, on 10/29/2007, -0/+9the last two sentences of your post are such a strange juxtaposition...
- mrthebunny, on 10/30/2007, -2/+11Well, Roger Moore was my favourite Bond when I was a kid, because his films were funny. But some of them are also great Bond movies. Despite some flops like Moonraker, I still like Octopussy, and ESPECIALLY "For Your Eyes Only". This last one is still one of my favourites (ok, I admit, it has a lot to do with Carole Bouquet...;-) )
For me each Bond actor brought a different style to the character, and it's difficult to compare them. I don't watch a Roger Moore James Bond with the same mood as I watch Casino Royale or a Connery flick.
That said, I haaaaaate George Lazenby... - arcooke, on 10/30/2007, -1/+10I thought he made a great James Bond.
- SlipstreamLucas, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8yeah true man, Connery was just so damn smooth :D
- solidus636, on 10/30/2007, -1/+9That poker game was trying to stop a bad guy from winning a fortune, which he would in turn use for terrorism.
I liked the plot, and Daniel Craig was great in the movie. - AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -7/+15Yes.
- Repeater2000, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8That isn't saying much, they all sucked except Goldeneye.
- Ultramagnus0001, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8He was a good bond, writing with all that colorful cartoon like crap is what ruined it. Just like what they did to Batman.
- localzuk, on 10/30/2007, -1/+9The movie was more true to the novel in which it is rooted than any other bond movie has been. I loved the books, and hope the movies stay like Casino Royale!
- mrogi, on 10/29/2007, -0/+7Roger Moore portrayed the Bond character as a comedy. I always hated that about him. Sean Connery is the definitive Bond. If Daniel Craig lives up to the standard he set in Casino Royale; he will become a serious challenge to Connery's #1 status.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+7Connery's pimp hand is strong.
- brundlefly76, on 10/29/2007, -0/+7My favorite part was when he beat the guy to death in the bathroom with his bare hands - rather then Roger Moore throwing jars of urine at Jaws while wisecracking.
- icedevil6, on 10/30/2007, -2/+8Yeah, it's a pretty sure thing. An actor of his caliber can repeat any performance.
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -3/+9And camera work that makes the viewer feel like they're having an epileptic seizure.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+7Better than who, Pierce Butterfly?
- securitymonkey, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6[Connery]
Hey Craig, your Mum says she likes my gadgets.
[/Connery] - skyfire1, on 10/30/2007, -1/+7Timothy Dalton!!!!
- Vodka2389, on 10/29/2007, -1/+7Much better than Goldeneye, IMO.
- tylerjames, on 10/29/2007, -1/+6wow, that assessment was so far off base I don't even know where I am anymore
- TheSkinsFactory, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5I would have like to see Gerard Butler as Bond. I bet he would have been a great bond.
- arunforce, on 10/29/2007, -3/+8Well, since I am 17, Pierce Brosnan was the only Bond I ever knew. IMO, he looks closest to how would I imagine James Bond, even though I haven't read an Ian Fleming novel.
It's kinda strange. - Bara, on 10/30/2007, -3/+8Children of Men ftw.
- littlebluedevil, on 10/30/2007, -3/+8Much like our esteemed 17 year old friend above, Roger Moore was "my" bond. I grew up with him.
It's pretty funny watching Dr. No again and seeing what was considered "action" back then. - LLamaStar, on 10/30/2007, -2/+6Fantastic. I thought he played an excellent Bond. Now it's just up to the writers and directors not to ***** it up.
- postaldave, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5i for one gave up on the bond films until daniel craig took Casino Royale and made it one of the greatest action films ever. i'm an instant fan and glad he is coming back.
- timjim31, on 11/06/2007, -2/+6what a weird thing to say
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4When they were still up in the air about a Bond before CR, I thought that too. Craig was damn good though.
- Twist05, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4Well really the Bond series made that genre anyway. And yes, it is time for it to evolve.
- krakkinem, on 10/29/2007, -2/+6The only reason everyone says that Connery was the best Bond is because he was the first. For example, if Michael Keaton was the 3rd or 4th person to play Batman, everyone would be screaming about what an awful choice he was.
Daniel Craig is a great Bond, and possibly the best actor of all of them. - potterboy, on 11/01/2007, -0/+4James Bond, Senior in Not Quite Dead Yet
- Seemefearme, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5The reason there was no Q and he drove a Ford was it was a prequel. He developed his taste of Aston Martins after he won that guys car. Q will probably come later in Daniel Craig's movies. It was the beginning of James Bond, so he obviously isn't going to have all of the things later Bond has.
- Twist05, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4Connery had the finesse of the original imagining of Bond. Craig is suited to the 'reworked' version of Bond. They're playing different styles of the character, and since the change of style was an outspoken point of the film, it's not really down to their acting skills either.
