      First is the satellite-like design on the lower "nose", which caused me to glance at its number. Even I know that the NCC-1701 was the original ship. Unless this new movie is a remake of the original series somehow - which it could be for as little as I know about it - then it's not related to the new movie.

Frankly I think it really needs to be decoupled from the continuity of the original series --- yes, the original series established some great characters and some great stories, but we shouldn't limit ourselves to its continuity (which the writers didn't think about anyway) or its designs and special effects (which are so dated as to be a handicap for modern storytelling).

I remember reading that Roddenberry based the stories on ancient Greek tragedies and comedies. I appreciated that each episode stood on its own. How a dream of a science fiction series written by people who know something about science.
            Kar Urban as Dr. McCoy? Yuck! He was my favorite character. Give me a cranky ol' man doctor over a prettyboy wannabe any day.

      It fits in a "if they could have created this kind of model in the 60s and not had it be obscenely expensive, this is probably what the Enterprise would have looked like then, too" sort of way.

      She also looks much more like a natural evolution of the NX class vessel than the TOS Enterprise from the original NBC show did. I think the designers did a good job with her.

    The Enterprise looks just like the original Enterprise from the series - it's the same ship. Except that it has a lot more detail, hull plating and looks more realistic. That is all!

This is being considered a "Reboot" of the original Star Trek, and as such you can guarantee they're pretty much going to change everything except the names of the characters. We're lucky the Enterprise will even look like the Enterprise much less be identical to the one from TOS.

    1.) THIS IS NOT the final design for the ship. It is a concept from the guy who was later hired to design the actual ship for the movie.
    2.) The next Star Trek movie (#11) will take place a couple hundred years before the Star Trek TV series and will feature Capt. Kirk's father (character) as the Captain of the very first human Star Ship. He will also be the one to name it the "Enterprise" and as such it will be NCC-1701.

Enterprise's maneuverability alone would be enough to take down Galactica. I agree with saying they would just beam the bridge crew right off their own bridge. Lets not kid ourselves Galactica stands no chance. And hello warp drive one Picard Maneuver would end it all.

    May I propose that this be a next version of ISS ENTERPRISE, post-capture of USS DEFIANT (NCC -1764). This happens after the Tholians draw the Constitution-class DEFIANT through a rift into the dark mirror universe and capture it. The Imperials, led by Cmdr. Archer steal DEFIANT and after some fun and games, Hoshi Sato uses it to usurp the Imperial leadership and takes command of the Terran Empire as Empress.

I read the story for ST XI involved several versions of the Enterprise for different time lines, so this may be an alternate version even.

    Or just fan art that was posted MONTHS ago ;)
