- jp12380, on 05/08/2008, -0/+8Perhaps he has the power of deduction and realizes that if this guy were not a fan he would not have gone to the trouble of posting this about Star Trek.
- guntario, on 05/08/2008, -3/+3Never said they were a "HE" either...
- t0xen, on 05/08/2008, -0/+5Lawl. Silly, there are no girls on the internet. Especially girl trekkies.
- jp12380, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4No HE did not but when you click on his profile information it says HE is a male.
- jezsik, on 05/08/2008, -4/+2I think he meant it as "I'm a FAN, too."
(It's still a pretty lame comment, though.) - damnitkitty, on 05/08/2008, -2/+4"These PRETZELS are making me thirsty!"

- rewinn, on 05/08/2008, -12/+59Ah! it looks like a real Federation Starship (...not that strange angular thing from the early movies).
- marsh283, on 05/08/2008, -5/+27They all look the same.....
- skyfox2k, on 05/08/2008, -6/+14Is that a Y-Wing?
joke ;-) - sockpuppets, on 05/08/2008, -3/+35There is no such thing as a "real federation starship."
- verkon, on 05/08/2008, -1/+22What?! How dare you say such a thing!
- EmSixTeen, on 05/08/2008, -2/+2haha, so true.
- lordsteve, on 05/09/2008, -1/+3Well, not YET
- speakerfordead, on 05/09/2008, -0/+3How about a DOOP ship?
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 05/08/2008, -1/+13At least they got the lighting right.
In all those episodes they seem to assume two things:
A) There's lots of light in deep space
B) Sound can travel through a vacuum.- saxmaster, on 05/08/2008, -0/+26It seems like they got the sound right too.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 05/08/2008, -10/+1It only seems that way because it's a picture and not a video.
- tehmark, on 05/08/2008, -1/+7or is it?
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3NO IT ISN'T!!!!
- speakerfordead, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1I hear what you hear. The sound of a million Trekkies mumbling dissent?
- mrbeagle, on 05/08/2008, -12/+3I'm a professional CG artist, and that looks pretty mediocre... much like Star Trek in general
- samdu, on 05/08/2008, -1/+14Are all CG artists so smug?
- WiseWeasel, on 05/08/2008, -1/+8From my experience, yes.
- daguito81, on 05/08/2008, -0/+8Why don't we see some of your BADASS work then smartass?
- goatworship, on 05/08/2008, -1/+2My working assumption is that mrbeagle's CG "art" is total juvenile crap until proven otherwise.
- mrbeagle, on 05/09/2008, -3/+1My working assumption is that goatworship is middle-aged white trash who likes to opine on topics he knows nothing about. That is, until proven otherwise.
- goatworship, on 05/09/2008, -1/+2Owch! You sure showed me... Consider me pwned by a talentless hack (until proven otherwise, of course.)
Please, feel free to post links to examples of your brilliant work shaming the mediocre enterprise model above... Whenever you're ready...
- badtzmartin, on 05/08/2008, -1/+2So is the guy who made it.
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/09/2008, -1/+1so, its assholes like you that are responsible for craptastic CG animated films? How dare you call yourself an artist?
- samdu, on 05/08/2008, -1/+14Are all CG artists so smug?
- saxmaster, on 05/08/2008, -0/+26It seems like they got the sound right too.
- Xondar, on 05/09/2008, -2/+4The "angular thing" you are bashing is the best looking Enterprise ever designed and the best looking science fiction starship ever designed.
Plus, it was based on concept drawings by Matt Jeffries, so at it's heart it is every bit as legitimate as the original.
- Qong, on 05/08/2008, -38/+15Looks cool. I used to watch TNG as a kid, but that's it.

- Qong, on 05/08/2008, -2/+3This comment made more sense in the context of the shout that I received... I didn't think that this picture was going to be so popular, if I did I wouldn't have made any comment at all!
- Xbogey, on 05/09/2008, -1/+1I really don't see what's wrong with this comment. These touchy Diggers never fail to amuse/annoy me.

- redphive, on 05/08/2008, -1/+116This is the work of one of the guys that was featured in the Star Trek Documentary Trekkies, Gabe Kroener
He is now doing a lot of digital CG work in film/TV http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0462933/- SuperWinner, on 05/08/2008, -3/+21Fan art, saw it last year. But I do believe his work is used as concept art by the makers of the new trek film.
- MRod, on 05/08/2008, -0/+29Yep, this is Gabe *Koerner's design and has been around for a while. Here's a short video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP6PEVWyGF0

- RudeCommentGuy, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1Ya know, the ship REALLY doesn't make much sense. It would take forever to get anywhere in that thing. If and when we make things like that in the real world, in no way are we going to make it so you have to pack an overnight bag before going from one end to the other.
- juventus1, on 05/08/2008, -12/+23it actually looks like something from the not so distant future...

- rhylan, on 05/08/2008, -2/+23If it is i can't imagine gene roddenberry would have been happy about it, he had a bit of a penchant for smooth white ships if i remember right ... I like it though :)
- entdecker, on 05/08/2008, -12/+4Too bad Roddenberry can't comment on it. He passed away years ago.
- daizaru, on 05/08/2008, -1/+12I think the "would have" kind of covered that.

- nibble4bits, on 05/08/2008, -0/+7Well that's funny, he had a say on the NCC-1701-D Enterprise for ST:TNG and that wasn't a smooth white ship, and he was full Executive Producer of ST:TNG for the first three years, and started handing control over to Berman around Season 4.
- camaroz06, on 05/08/2008, -0/+5Its actually funny you mentioned that, I was watching a documentary and at first with TOS Roddenberry was going for the bright future, clean looks, everyone is happy!!! Then as TNG and DS9 came out he was moving more towards a darker future due to world events. I think Gene would approve of a ship that wasn’t gleaming clean.
- altinnovation, on 05/08/2008, -1/+5Actually, about the time things went into the darker future direction is the time he was already dead.
- HaMMeReD, on 05/08/2008, -4/+2gene roddenberry isn't dead, he makes books about naked fat people now.

- logicalnoise, on 05/08/2008, -2/+49it's an early fan design from a very popular CG artist. Who also happened to get hired to design the enterprise in the new movie so yeah this if very close to the design.
- pinstripewizard, on 05/08/2008, -1/+5yes if is.
- sark666, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2details? A fan designed this and got hired? Who?
- logicalnoise, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2digg links ot his website. and he's pro who has been a star trek fan for a long time. He did work on ST:inssurection as well.
- PixelMagic, on 05/09/2008, -0/+2This information is inaccurate. He was not hired to design the new Enterprise. The designers of the new Enterprise are Ryan Church and John Eaves at Industrial Light and Magic's concept art department.

- Mysk, on 05/08/2008, -0/+6I was kind of shocked there for a moment when I thought that no one else had mentioned it.
First is the satellite-like design on the lower "nose", which caused me to glance at its number. Even I know that the NCC-1701 was the original ship. Unless this new movie is a remake of the original series somehow - which it could be for as little as I know about it - then it's not related to the new movie.- Jambi, on 05/08/2008, -1/+5Yes, it's a remake of the original series. Harold from "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" plays Sulu. The guy who plays Sylar on "Heroes" plays Mister Spock. Personally, I think remakes are almost never good. I guess we'll see soon enough.
- rspeed, on 05/08/2008, -0/+6Don't forget Karl Urban (Eomer in Lord of the Rings) is Bones and Simon Pegg (Sean in Sean of the Dead) is Scotty. This is gonna be awesome.
- drachemorder, on 05/08/2008, -0/+5Yeah, but Star Trek as it stands now has so much baggage attached to it that it NEEDS a reboot. Frankly I think it really needs to be decoupled from the continuity of the original series --- yes, the original series established some great characters and some great stories, but we shouldn't limit ourselves to its continuity (which the writers didn't think about anyway) or its designs and special effects (which are so dated as to be a handicap for modern storytelling).
- jezsik, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Interesting idea. I enjoyed the original series because the stories were ... well, they sure weren't written like a soap-opera. I remember reading that Roddenberry based the stories on ancient Greek tragedies and comedies. I appreciated that each episode stood on its own. How a dream of a science fiction series written by people who know something about science.
Kar Urban as Dr. McCoy? Yuck! He was my favorite character. Give me a cranky ol' man doctor over a prettyboy wannabe any day.

- petebot, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2And don't they mean Star Trek Zero? Or -1?
- starkruzr, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1They've taken some artistic license with the design, but it's mostly right.
It fits in a "if they could have created this kind of model in the 60s and not had it be obscenely expensive, this is probably what the Enterprise would have looked like then, too" sort of way.
She also looks much more like a natural evolution of the NX class vessel than the TOS Enterprise from the original NBC show did. I think the designers did a good job with her.

- drachemorder, on 05/08/2008, -0/+6It did. Or at least, it killed the series as it stood at the time. The new movie is taking a different approach. We'll have to see how well it manages to shed the baggage of the last several years.
- hauntedchippy, on 05/08/2008, -0/+8Franchise just needs a relaunch to reengage the old fanbase as well as gain a new one.
JJ Abrams has a good track record so I think were safe.- drachemorder, on 05/08/2008, -2/+5Yeah, if there's one person I'd trust to do justice to the franchise, it's Abrams.
Well, him or Joss Whedon, but Whedon's already got an outer-space sci-fi franchise (one that beats the pants off of Star Trek, too, in my opinion). - weizilla, on 05/08/2008, -1/+4@drachemorder
you mean the one that got canceled (even though it was clearly better)? - drachemorder, on 05/08/2008, -1/+3@weizilla
Yup. That one. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for another movie. - Ramble, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Joss would kill it just like Firefly died.
- usingpond, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2I like Abrams and what he's done, except for the awful Cloverfield script. Hopefully this won't be all "I HAVE TO RISK EVERYTHING TO SAVE THE GIRL" "OKAY DUDE WE'RE COMING WITH YOU." A very unoriginal script for an otherwise original movie.
- warplayer, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Abrams didn't write the Cloverfield script, Drew Goddard did.

- Wartyboskfapped, on 05/08/2008, -1/+18This is a piece of fan art and is not what the Enterprise looks like in the new movie.
The Enterprise looks just like the original Enterprise from the series - it's the same ship. Except that it has a lot more detail, hull plating and looks more realistic. That is all!- Kakaze, on 05/08/2008, -2/+7If you think they're not going to change the ship you're naive. This is being considered a "Reboot" of the original Star Trek, and as such you can guarantee they're pretty much going to change everything except the names of the characters. We're lucky the Enterprise will even look like the Enterprise much less be identical to the one from TOS.
- Kronos6948, on 05/08/2008, -2/+9Did you see the teaser trailer? You get to see the Enterprise being built. You can see the saucer section clearly, and it basically looks like TOS Enterprise with more detail.
- Kakaze, on 05/08/2008, -1/+4I saw it and if you look at the bussard collectors they look way bigger than those on the TOS Enterprise in relation to the saucer.
- PixelMagic, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4That's not true. The bridge module is completely different, and reflects the movie Enterprise more than the TV show one. The engines are also completely different from the ones on the original show.
- hauntedchippy, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Relaunch, not reboot. There is a difference e.g. the new Planet of the Apes was a reboot whilst Batman Begins was a relaunch.
I think we'll be pleasantly surprised with this one.- FoxtrotYankee, on 05/08/2008, -1/+3The new Star Trek is neither a relaunch nor a reboot. It's simply a prequel.

- mogebier, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1I resemble that remark.
- venuspcs, on 05/08/2008, -17/+3A few things:
1.) THIS IS NOT the final design for the ship. It is a concept from the guy who was later hired to design the actual ship for the movie.
2.) The next Star Trek movie (#11) will take place a couple hundred years before the Star Trek TV series and will feature Capt. Kirk's father (character) as the Captain of the very first human Star Ship. He will also be the one to name it the "Enterprise" and as such it will be NCC-1701.- Foofoofoofoobar, on 05/08/2008, -0/+10No, its about Kirk and company at the Academy. His parents might play a small role, but the main bulk of the plot will be the gang at Starfleet Academy. There's a reason why they hired younger looking people for the specific roles.
- Matteos, on 05/08/2008, -1/+7Uh... wrong.
From IMDB:
Plot summary for
Star Trek (2009)
A chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members during their time at Starfleet Academy...
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/plotsummary - Kronos6948, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Where did you read that?
This movie is about Kirk in Starfleet Academy. Spock goes back in time from the present ST timeline to stop something from happening to Kirk.
- brstilson, on 05/08/2008, -5/+2I wonder how they're actually going to tackle the Enterprise in the movie. If they stayed faithful to the original model, it would, face it, look pretty damn corny for a modern film.
- Ramble, on 05/08/2008, -1/+2I think it looks awesome. Has a new darker look which makes it look badarse.
- SebsWorld, on 05/08/2008, -1/+1Gabriel, does have some fine 3d art work.
- rovsky, on 05/08/2008, -7/+6Who would win in a fight, Galactica or Enterprise?...is that even fair? Galactica has whole fighter squadrons.
- Matteos, on 05/08/2008, -1/+15Photon torpedos FTW
- ilves7, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2dunno... it basically comes down to how well Galactica can penetrate Enterprise's shields and if its armor can hold up to phasers and photon torpedoes.
- Nosferax, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3And those machine gun equiped fighter will do a lot of good against a shield
- saikyan, on 05/08/2008, -0/+20I can't believe I'm about to say this:
The Enterprise has the distinct tactical advantage of being able to beam the Galactica bridge crew right off their own bridge.- jimchou, on 05/08/2008, -0/+8You're such a pacifist... they could also beam a bomb on board...
- govsucks, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4Ah, but he didn't say where he would beam them to. ;)
- Nesh, on 05/08/2008, -1/+7True, but in order to do so, they must temporarily drop the shields, perhaps allowing the vipers to get inside the bubble.
- kedarme, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4heheh cool guess what happens when galactica and the cylons come within range of the federation controlled space.. i would like to see that as a sequel to when earth is found on bsg
- jimchou, on 05/08/2008, -0/+8You're such a pacifist... they could also beam a bomb on board...
- koft, on 05/08/2008, -0/+13Whew! Pass geek and go directly to nerd.
- Ramble, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2I distinctly remember the Enterprise mentioning nuclear weapons in TOS (and how they were a threat). Considering the power of nukes on the Galactica and it's Vipers I'd say it would be a close one.
- KChambers, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Guys, Phasers negate the Vipers almost immediately. Photon torpedoes destroy Galactica in seconds as they do not have shields. I'm not sure what nukes could do to the Enterprise but I dont think it would be much.
- huertanix, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Galactica has no shields. At. All. One quantum torpedo would destory it.
- Flarup, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Most awesome discussion i've read on digg all day. But the Galactica would totally kick ass.
- Darksoul, on 05/08/2008, -0/+5The is only one problem with every body's nuke theory you have to remember Quantum Torpedo's are alot smarter and faster then anything Galactica has plus their shields can take massive amount of damage it would laugh at Galactica's nukes. Enterprise's maneuverability alone would be enough to take down Galactica. I agree with saying they would just beam the bridge crew right off their own bridge. Lets not kid ourselves Galactica stands no chance. And hello warp drive one Picard Maneuver would end it all.
Whew ultra nerd for the win yes lady's I am not taken............... - Arnos, on 05/09/2008, -2/+2As much a BSG fan as I am, it's an easy fight for the old Enterprise.

- zeropoint51, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2NASA is a joke, especially its manned spaceflight. It has done virtually nothing for the last 25 years, unless you call orbiting the earth endlessly useful. It exists both as a corporate welfare machine as well as its true purpose, launching military space assets.

May I propose that this be a next version of ISS ENTERPRISE, post-capture of USS DEFIANT (NCC -1764). This happens after the Tholians draw the Constitution-class DEFIANT through a rift into the dark mirror universe and capture it. The Imperials, led by Cmdr. Archer steal DEFIANT and after some fun and games, Hoshi Sato uses it to usurp the Imperial leadership and takes command of the Terran Empire as Empress.- Nowheredan, on 05/08/2008, -1/+5Sometimes I think I'm a nerd for liking Star Trek. - conrail, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Dude, that was the plot of a two part Enterprise episode. probably the high point of the series.
- Nighthawke, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Erm, that was the history leading up to the next starship the Empire would build, based on reverse engineered tech. Apologies.
- huertanix, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3T'Pol also wears a TOS skirt. Best Enterprise ep ever. :)

- Br3ach, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Some details on this match the trailer and others dont. In the trailer you can see the saucer is different, but the nacelles look pretty similar. I read the story for ST XI involved several versions of the Enterprise for different time lines, so this may be an alternate version even.
Or just fan art that was posted MONTHS ago ;)- silverbullet126, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Ya this image is pretty old ...
