- ka0tic, on 02/07/2009, -2/+23Incoming Hot Topic merchandise to replace their Nightmare Before Christmas stuff.
- malex, on 02/07/2009, -2/+22Pan's Labyrinth was definitely not intended for a young audience.
Movie with children != Children's movie. - JustLetGo, on 02/06/2009, -1/+20"Overall, it's a wonderful step back to the days when kid stories weren't afraid to scare you a little. The market is so overpopulated with loud CG characters that we've forgotten about the stories that really stick with us, which tend to be elaborate and ultimately scary."
Amen! - Spartandog, on 02/06/2009, -1/+15Can't wait to see it.
- rackie83, on 02/06/2009, -5/+19Did you somehow miss Pan's Labyrinth?
- UnConeD, on 02/07/2009, -2/+10Did you miss the scene in Pan's Labyrinth where they /bash someone's face in with a bottle/ ?
- malex, on 02/07/2009, -1/+9You do realize that this film was done with physical models, right?
... unless by "trend" you mean Nightmare Before Christmas, Wallace & Grommit, and, uh, other Wallace & Grommit. - dirtymerkin, on 02/07/2009, -1/+8Great book. Can't wait to see this. Gaiman is a genius.
- JordanM85, on 02/07/2009, -2/+7I hope it's better than Mirrormask.
- chrisOrbit, on 02/07/2009, -0/+5"Neil Gaiman-inspired" Didn't he write it? not inspire it.
- HappyScrappy, on 02/06/2009, -1/+6Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing.
When a mystical creature starts asking me to kill people, things have definitely turned scary. - merreborn, on 02/07/2009, -1/+6If "Corpse bride" didn't do it, "Coraline" won't.
- DreKor, on 02/07/2009, -0/+4Are you talking about the 3D glasses thing? I'm thinking it's just a desperate attempt to inject something into the movie theater experience that can't be easily duplicated by bittorrent and a 57" plasma.
- tyroney, on 02/07/2009, -0/+4Director wrote the screenplay. See the story from earlier: http://digg.com/movies/An_Interview_with_Henry_Sel ...
- bubbameister33, on 02/07/2009, -1/+5I'm just gonna throw this out there but read "Anansi Boys" that ***** is sick.
- YinofYang, on 02/07/2009, -1/+4No kidding, talk about the next trendy bandwagon that rolls through.
Teens will be throwing themselves all over it. - Lith25, on 02/07/2009, -1/+4true, I thought Corpse Bride was actually better than Nightmare Before Christmas.
- bagboyrebel, on 02/07/2009, -0/+3Coraline isn't retro enough.
- RobotBuddha, on 02/08/2009, -0/+2I just realized people are looking at my childhood the way I look at tiedye t-shirts. Getting old, kinda depressing.
- fahrenheitlf, on 02/07/2009, -0/+2Widescreen was introduced for the same reason. It was a gimmick to get people into the theaters and away from their home televisions.
- DreKor, on 02/07/2009, -0/+2It's gotten a bit better, but I'd still prefer to watch movies without something on my face.
- iceman0113, on 02/07/2009, -0/+2I kind of enjoyed Mirrormask...
- Philbert, on 02/07/2009, -0/+2Actually what brought back the scary fairy tale in my mind was Snow White: A Tale of Terror starring Sigourney Weaver, Sam Neill, and Monica Keena. Stupid title but awesome movie.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119227/ - iceman0113, on 02/07/2009, -0/+2It's not 3D. It's stop-motion. There's a difference.
- RetlawST, on 02/07/2009, -3/+5My 4 year old's favorite part of Pan's Labyrinth is when the little girl is dying with her blood dripping onto the ground...
- ThatsNotPoetry, on 02/07/2009, -1/+2I wish this movie was going to be better. The fun animation and quirky theme would be great if the script and voice acting wasn't so terrible. God, I just can't overlook how AWFUL is sounds.
- GamerXR72, on 02/07/2009, -0/+1I saw Bolt in 3D. The image is crystal clear. I find it superior to 2D, but I also don't mind wearing glasses.
- StinkyWizlteats, on 02/07/2009, -1/+2Saw it in Toronto with Neil attending on Monday. While it veered from the book in places, it was extremely entertaining. The music is superb, and the craft that went into making it is evident in every scene. Make sure you see it in 3D.
John Hodgman ftw. - wrongdirection2, on 02/08/2009, -0/+1This isn't a Tim Burton movie.
- Yage2006, on 02/07/2009, -0/+1Well actually they do but they dont seem to grab the attention that 3d animation does and often they are straight to video.
But there is plenty from japan like howl's moving castle, Paprika to name 2.
And there was superman doomsday and batman gothik night. - YinofYang, on 02/07/2009, -0/+1I've been following this for awhile, still need to see it.
I'm looking forward to it. I've always enjoyed movies, no matter what medium, especially when you have good characters and a nifty storyline. - iceman0113, on 02/07/2009, -0/+1@wayne
It's not a pop out where you wear glasses. As malex listed, those movies are done with real-life models and then a picture is taken. Kind of like a flip-book, only much more longer and complicated. - chico4701, on 02/07/2009, -0/+1Seen it. It was brilliant. Better than Nightmare before Christmas, and I loved that movie.
- qazws, on 02/08/2009, -0/+1Don't over hype this movie like nightmare before christmas.
- iceman0113, on 02/07/2009, -0/+1Go watch Stardust and Neverwhere, then come back and reply.
- mistergoomba, on 02/08/2009, -0/+1Agreed, but it was still a fairy tale
- charlie6969, on 02/07/2009, -0/+1My daughter is psyched to go see this.
Actually, I am too. - pyromaster114, on 02/07/2009, -2/+2It'd probably scare my mother, and be really boring for me.
In other news, there will be rule 34 of this within an hour after the first showing, if it doesn't already exist. - Lith25, on 02/07/2009, -1/+1 I remember using those glasses to watch films like 10 years ago and it was a horrible experience; way to blurry. Has it improved any?
- Scalpels, on 02/07/2009, -1/+1Pan's Labyrinth was not a kids movie. How about Monster House as an alternative?
- magunra3k, on 02/07/2009, -1/+0mirromask sucked ass
- fuzzynyanko, on 02/07/2009, -3/+2This is nice since so many companies are making 3d films including Pixar, Dreamworks, and Sony. Too bad that nobody seems interested in making a 2d film anymore
- cran, on 02/07/2009, -4/+2Is it time to get all frothed up adoring a movie which has not been seen by the very same people getting excited about it and which will almost certainly be mediocre at best and will (hopefully) quickly fade away forever into obscurity like so many others?
YES IT IS! Here we go! - inactive, on 02/07/2009, -2/+0sorry I meant 3D as in 3D pop out of the screen, no I like the art style, just not the silly glasses required to watch some birds fly off screen....or the mess referred to as my bloody valentine haha
- yocouchdigga, on 02/06/2009, -5/+3wake me for 9.
- Cleetus76, on 02/06/2009, -4/+1Wonder if it's going to have Dakota Fanning screaming over half the movie...
