- JayMeaux, on 02/14/2008, -5/+4I would much rather see an Amazing Adventures adaption, but i can see how TYP is a little bit easier to make into a movie.
- PeaceCzar, on 02/18/2008, -1/+1Well Sydney Pollack (or whoever) has had that project in development hell for ages. The book is so damn epic and sprawling, you can't blame 'em too much.
But I drool with excitement at what the Coen Bros and their idiosyncrasies bring to this project.
No more stalling, time to read the book!

- bigpicturecolin, on 02/14/2008, -4/+4There will be a Kav and Clay, apparently, but it's been in pre-production hell for years.
- glitch47, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0just to clarify-- technically it's called "development hell". pre-production is when a movie has been officially greenlit for production and they get production offices for casting, the art department, etc.
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -23/+5This might seem anti-semitic but, I am really tired of seeing, hearing and having to deal with the jew culture that is in present day movies. I would guess that some 75-80% of movies have something jewish in them. Either a jewish main role, jewish utterances, or jewish plots... Anyway I am sick of it. There are 4 times the number of atheists in the US and you don't see hardly anything about atheists coming out of hollywood. I guess my point is that jewish people are a severe minority, and the fact that hollywood is tossing out jew film after jew film doesn't represent the population for which they are making the movies. Enough, already! (if you look back through my comment, it is much like common hollywood movies, with every other word being jew or jewish) Dig me down, I don't care...
- cheeseron, on 02/14/2008, -3/+9if it's really that much of a problem then don't go see it
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -11/+3I won't go see it, but I cannot turn on my TV to watch anything anymore without some jewism
- menachem, on 02/14/2008, -3/+2It's Judaism not jewism moron!
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2Sorry if I didn't get your jewjew correct...
- muleking, on 02/14/2008, -1/+11Translation: I'm not anti-semetic, but I can't stand jews.
PS: They control the media.- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -10/+3I'm an atheist, I disprove of all religions... but it's not about religion its about the mighty jew factor
- artgon, on 02/14/2008, -3/+10That's not atheism. That's intolerance.
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -4/+2It's not intolerance, it's intelligence....
- HenryBored, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1Germans in the 40's were considered intelligent. Didn't make them nice people.
- artgon, on 02/14/2008, -3/+10That's not atheism. That's intolerance.
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -10/+3I'm an atheist, I disprove of all religions... but it's not about religion its about the mighty jew factor
- Repeater2000, on 02/14/2008, -2/+6What if the movie is actually really anti-semetic? You will lurrrve it.
All kidding aside, the coens pull no punches. Turturro's jewish charachter in Miller Crossing was pretty unflinching. - monospaced, on 02/14/2008, -3/+7You do sound kind of anti-semetic. And if you're bothered by the presence of Jewish customs in movies (which are not as plentiful as you make them out to be) then you have issues. I'd more confidently complain about the widespread Christian imagery in pop culture than the Jewish one. Since you don't care, you're getting dugg down big time.
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -4/+3I do care, I could go on for days about how I hate christian BS... but this thread is about a yiddish movie...
- IbraAlYahud, on 02/14/2008, -1/+10there are a lot of jewish references in movies these days because there are alot of jews making movies. there are probably more jews making movies than atheists (im not saying agnostics, though, because i'm sure almost all the jews in hollywood are agnostic). atheism isn't a culture, so there are no comical or sentimental mannerisms to allude.
- Vodka2389, on 02/14/2008, -2/+7Who do Jews have to do with atheists? I'm a Jew and I'm also an atheist.
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -7/+1So you are a Jew, but you are not Jewish... hmmm interesting
- Vodka2389, on 02/14/2008, -2/+6You sound confused about the whole thing. You realize that there's Jews as an ethnicity and culture, and then there is Jews as a religion. The two aren't necessarily related. So I don't get why you start with "Christians" and "atheists."
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -4/+1I think that any atheist jew wouldn't call themselves a jew. How you can say that jews have their own ethnicity?. If you are a jew aren't you nothing more than a arab who thinks he is different than other arabs? Or does some 100 mile difference in where you were born actually make a difference? I don't get the whole concept... it defies logic. I also do not understand fully why so many people hate the jews. All I know is that every time I hear a yiddish word on TV my "this is *****" buzzer goes off.
- Mousse, on 02/14/2008, -2/+3That you think all Jews are Arabs uncovers a little of your ignorance. Jews can be Arab, European, American, Persian and so on. As Vodka said there are two meanings behind being jewish, one is religious, the other is ethnic/cultural. I call myself a jewish atheist because, while I don't agree with the mythology of religions or existence of a deity, I do identify with the jewish culture in that I celebrate jewish holidays (no different than an atheist celebrating christmas). On rare occasions I eat matzo, gefiltefish, and other jewish food because this is the way I was raised. Saying I am culturally jewish is no different than saying I'm culturally Italian, or culturally American, but I'd bet you'd have no qualms with an culturally Italian Atheist, because the term Italian is clearly not religious. Jewish can mean religion or ethicity.
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -3/+3I really don't care how you justify the same word to mean whatever you like.... the point is simple... get the jew crap off of my television.
- Mousse, on 02/14/2008, -1/+2I was simply replying to your assumption that the term jewish atheist is paradoxical. To be honest, I don't find a lot of jewish media too interesting myself.
- HenryBored, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1"If you are a jew aren't you nothing more than a arab who thinks he is different than other arabs?" Are you seriously asking this question? At least your other comments were somewhat logical. You must be thinking of an Israeli. Oops, turns out most Israeli's are of North European descent. Take off the white hooded mask and go back to history class.
- Vodka2389, on 02/14/2008, -2/+6You sound confused about the whole thing. You realize that there's Jews as an ethnicity and culture, and then there is Jews as a religion. The two aren't necessarily related. So I don't get why you start with "Christians" and "atheists."
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -7/+1So you are a Jew, but you are not Jewish... hmmm interesting
- fancyj, on 02/14/2008, -2/+8then go make a ***** movie.
- stignordas, on 02/14/2008, -3/+6If it looks like a duck... And quacks like a duck...
Just do us a favor and stay the ***** home. These happen to be the greatest film makers of our generation, if the subject is enough to turn you off, at least you have a choice. - VeganG, on 02/14/2008, -2/+3I really haven't noticed anything of the sort.
- cyberdork, on 02/14/2008, -3/+1You realize there is a difference between culture and religion, don't you?
You think you complain about Judaism, but instead you complain about an ethnic culture. - ReadItAndWeep, on 02/14/2008, -2/+4You just got dugg down for noticing the elephant in the china shop that others wish to ignore. Despite being only 2% of the US population, Jews make up over 60% of the major Hollywood producers and over 80% of the major Hollywood studio owners and executives. This is why you see a clear pro-jewish bias in Hollywood films and television. This is also why you will see other biases as well, but I will save that discussion for another day.
- glitch47, on 02/14/2008, -3/+1well, you just made those stats up. you know why? there are no "hollywood studio owners". they're all corporations now and owned by conglomerates. Sony owns Columbia Pictures which is actually on the old MGM lot. Warner Brothers is owned by Time Warner. Paramount is owned by Viacom. etc.
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3Ok, so lets hide behind corporations... who heads those companies? And who gets to give the nod to movies? In other words ... shhhh
- GoneGreen, on 02/14/2008, -2/+3I knew there had to be atleast one other person seeing this... I think it's total crap and I have somehow offended the jew atheists in this thread... which is an oxymoron really.
- ReadItAndWeep, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3You are right to be worried by the jewish over-representation in Hollywood because it is a serious problem. However, you are wrong about jewish atheists being an oxymoron. The jews are an ethnicity (at least in principle) and judaism is their religion. You see, the jewish religion is a religion of bigotry where only one ethnic tribe is designated as "God's chosen people" and everybody else is just considered goyim. The jewish faith does not seek converts. In fact, the jewish faith discourages converts because the religion is meant for this one ethnicity. Of course, this is all hypocrisy because the ashkenazim, who make up most of modern jews and almost all jews in Europe and America, were converts to the faith post-Biblical times.
- platypibri, on 02/14/2008, -3/+2You meshugge, you got a lot of chutzpa posting that dreck here. You kibitz here and kvetch with your fercockt ideas nach amool. Gay aveck ya momzer. go make your tummel else where.
- ReadItAndWeep, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4How dare you speak to me in that mongrel language. I am a WASP blue-blood and will not tolerate hearing this gibberish, you schmuck. :-P
- platypibri, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1I see what you did there.

- pitlord, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3That's funny, I've been noticing the exact opposite. I've been noticing a clearly pro-homosexual, pro-pimp, pro-gangsta, pro-hoebag, pro-everything evil and disgusting and basically anti-anything related to western civilization and Judeo-Christian values kind of trend coming out of Hollywood for a long time.
>.>
Make no mistake, Hollywood has been taken over by a very strong, very angry organization of gay and lesbian, atheistic, liberal fascists who seem hell bent on destroying any remnant of conservative, traditional, god-fearing, American culture that might be left in Hollywood.- ReadItAndWeep, on 02/14/2008, -1/+2It's called cultural marxism and, yes, the goal is the destruction of Western Civilization. Political correctness, radical feminism, mass immigration, multiculturalism, and all similar ideologies are derivatives of this cancerous ideology that was started at the Frankfurt School. If you want to understand the world we live in today, you have to understand the Frankfurt School and cultural marxism. Here is an article which talks about it:

- monospaced, on 02/14/2008, -4/+5Awesome, I just started reading the book.
- yersoocrust, on 02/14/2008, -7/+2I just made a drawing inspired by the Coen Brothers' movie Fargo.
- babalukas, on 02/14/2008, -4/+4I just dressed up like the Coen Brothers and started singing in Yiddish.
- sittered, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1I don't wait for announcements like this before I do that.
- muleking, on 02/14/2008, -11/+4I wonder if Yiddish will have a sudden, ambiguous, and unfulfilling conclusion?
- GorillaCowboy, on 02/14/2008, -4/+7If you understood No Country for Old Men, you wouldn't think the ending is sudden, ambiguous, or unfulfilling.
- DigTheDoug, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2Oy vey
- fancyj, on 02/14/2008, -4/+5I'm feeling a little vaklempt. Talk amongst yourselves. Chick peas are neither chicks nor peas. Discuss.
- stignordas, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2Wonder Boys was another of Chabon's novels to make the screen. Well done, but nowhere near as good as this promises to be.
- chubbybubba, on 02/14/2008, -7/+3I don't care what language it's in, as long as it has an ending. (a real ending.) ;]
- whalt, on 02/14/2008, -2/+4A real ending? Like the one you apparently didn't understand in NCFOM?
- yfguitarist, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Please. Just because you don't like the ending for perfectly legitimate reasons doesn't mean you "didn't get it". That's so pretentious and arrogant.
- daborg, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1Not liking the ending is the point of the ending.
- chubbybubba, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1whoa... I did get the ending. I admit it was a shock, but after thinking about it, it made sense. I was just kidding.
- yfguitarist, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Please. Just because you don't like the ending for perfectly legitimate reasons doesn't mean you "didn't get it". That's so pretentious and arrogant.
- daborg, on 02/14/2008, -2/+1Right now you're illustrating the point of the ending, probably without even realizing it.
- whalt, on 02/14/2008, -2/+4A real ending? Like the one you apparently didn't understand in NCFOM?
- monkiman, on 02/14/2008, -5/+0Those magnificent bastards. Bless you Coens, Chabon, and McCarthy
- trp5023, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2I am a huge fan of alternate history, and while Chabon's book isn't very much AH except in the setting of a Jewish Homeland in Alaska, that was what drew me in. What amazes me about the book is, after I started reading, I felt like I was reading one of those old dime-store detective novels, all of the alcoholism, mysterious women, missing persons, yada yada. Very cool book, should be an interesting movie.
- genconkeeper, on 02/14/2008, -1/+2Interesting alternative history, the russian and chinese revolutions fail. The state of Israel is stillborn in 45 And the State of Manchuria lands on the Moon hows them apples. Now for cast....
Tony Shalhoub as the lead and John Hurt as the Maven. I don't know of any up and coming native american or candian actors to play his partner. Come this is fun - daborg, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1"Against this backdrop is a noir-style murder mystery in which a rogue cop investigates the killing of a heroin-addicted chess prodigy who might be the messiah."
WANT!!! - eLye, on 02/14/2008, -4/+5All religion is crap. I'm so sick of people sympathizing over greedy-ass jews, murderous muslim *****.... weak-ass people just let these assholes walk all over them and do nothing for fear of being called a name. Yet, there are protests about scientology? Jews do control the media and the banks and muslims are slaughtering people and pushing their ways on all other cultures... they are taking over Europe like fire ants like the Mexicans are doing in the US. Why is there no protesting that?! And why does it seem like people are only allowed to embrace or tolerate other cultures, but if you stand up and say THIS IS WRONG then you are evil.
- HenryBored, on 02/14/2008, -3/+2Yes, I agree, you are evil.
- urbancontra, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2What the ***** does this have to do with the article?
Ignorant people like you are the problem, *****.
- macbeth73, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1The Coen brothers are what Samuel Beckett was to literature
- platypibri, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1Show me a movie funnier than Blazing Saddles and we'll talk about getting Jews outta Hollywood.
- mellaart, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1I didn't guess reglion was important
