- geoff1210, on 07/08/2008, -3/+33Wow, that guys voice at the end is nice and relaxing. I enjoyed the few seconds we shared together.
- Ummagumma, on 07/07/2008, -3/+24Very well done.
- ShootTheCore, on 07/08/2008, -4/+19I am gonna watch this series now. Therefore the advert has done it's job. It promoted a free (to me) service I would be interested in I didn't know about before. That is the power of good advertising.
- aserer511, on 07/08/2008, -0/+9See the world through the eyes of an *****
The M. Night Shamalan season begins... - ModernDayDarwin, on 07/08/2008, -0/+7Ahhh Stanely Kubrick. This man walks the fine line between genius and insanity. He is what so many others (like M. Night DingDong) strive to be.
- ladon86, on 07/08/2008, -1/+7I saw this on TV yesterday and was very impressed - a great ad.
- iyatoni, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6I absolutely love it when people put this level of attention to detail into things. Shows a real love for for the subject matter.
- Barryke, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5For such a nice ad, i regret not taking a look at Kubrick's work.
I shall reconcile. Where do i start? - unkyduck, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5If you saw the Kubrick movie, then read the book, it was awesome. Not so much the other way around. (I didn't even know there WAS a remake. Steven Weber ? You gotta be kidding me.
- mookiemoomoo, on 07/08/2008, -2/+7Fantastic! Channel 4 are so great at producing these promos.....and I'm looking forward to the Kubrick season
- homerjs, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Brilliant
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -1/+5You need to go see '2001: A Space Odyssey' in 70mm the next time the print makes the rounds. A joint wouldn't hurt. ;-)
- ross., on 07/08/2008, -1/+5You've inspired me to watch these movies on channel bit torrent, a free (to me) service. Thank you.
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3I'll tell you my perspective on Kubrick (not that anyone asked), and he's a favorite of mine. Most directors shoot scenes with actors from, "inside the circle." Like, Spielberg will stand around with the actors while they rehearse and pay attention to where he wants to stand in relation to the actor as a guide for where to put the camera. Like you're standing around talking to some guys and you're just one of the guys. Kubrick shot with long lenses a lot of the time and it was almost like he was doing surveillance. So it was less like you were hanging out with pals and more like you were stalking someone. He also used lighting that people describe as, "High White." It's the kind of lighting you normally only experience in hospitals and clean rooms. That kind of sterile lighting does something odd to your perception as a viewer, too. Obviously these are oversimplifications and there are dozens (hundreds) of examples where Kubrick didn't do this, but I think these are two of the main reasons he got a reputation for being sterile and detached. He was a great observer of the human condition, though.
- clutchperformer, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3He certainly has all the visual stylings down. Now that you point it out, M. Night's work looks the most like an extension and progression of Kubrick's work compared to contemporaries.
But Kubrick took his time and went though dozens of failed or half-developed concepts in between masterworks. He also developed highly provocative scripts and made every effort to avoid falling into a genre.
M. Night just squanders his talent by churning out crap and embracing his "there's a twist" thriller reputation. You can do that if you are Hitchcock. But he's not as good as Hitchcock in this game. - damndj, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3You mention Eyes Wide Shut but not Barry Lyndon?
- trademark912, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3You start with Dr. Strangelove.
- poidh, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Absolutely sweet. I've got most of his films on DVD but I'm going to watch them on telly as well.
Laaaavly. - iyatoni, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Well, The Shining didn't suck in the slightest, in my opinion. Rather it was a magnificent piece of film-making.
Sevenalive isn't a "dumb piece of *****" for thinking it sucked, but saying that it's "what everyone already knew" was a bit ignorant, considering its 8.5 IMDB rating after 120,000 votes.
The remake was a TV mini-series - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118460/ - bookon, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Wrong Aspect Ratio, but cool otherwise.
- royalwcheese, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2or Clockwork...
- drexl, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Noticed a couple of Kubrick articles on here today. Glad to see it, I love his work. Here's one I submitted a while back but it never got any attention. And no I'm not complaining, I just happen to like Kubrick and wanted to share:
http://digg.com/movies/One_Kubrick_Mystery_Is_Fina ...
Was a good article too. - aluebbert, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2This made me happy this morning - - forgot how much I love Kubrick.
- rmmcclay, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Time for another Kubrick fest at the house!
- SSUK, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Pfft, I do that everyday.
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1It creeps a lot of people out. It's actually kind of designed (IMO, Kubrick was pretty cagey about not telling people what his motivations were) to creep people out. It's like he'd take a snapshot of the human condition and put it under microscopic magnification with revealing lighting and say, "Did you realize we were like this?"
- schneb, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1I agree. That was not easy to do and it was done to perfection.
Another fun one is the video that made an ad out of The Shining and made it look like this pleasant family movie just by using fun music and clever editing.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=sfout_rgPSA - Ummagumma, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1That's a classic. Brilliant editing.
- iyatoni, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Then A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut, Lolita, Spartacus and Dr Strangelove. That should get you pretty much up to speed. :-)
- JAGUART, on 07/08/2008, -2/+3M. Night Shyamalan has all the talent of a Kubrick, but for some reason, he strives against it.
- filmdetail, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1More details on the More4 season here: http://www.filmdetail.com/archives/2008/07/04/stan ...
- xtrench, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2Don't you mean "you're a dumb piece of ***** if you don't think like me"?
- Asvetic, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1England scores again with a Kubrick movie marathon... come on AMC, where's our Kubrick marathon?!
- karmathestrange, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Start with Dr. Strangelove
Then see The Shining.
Go to Clockwork Orange, then take it from there. - drgirlfriend, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1I could NEVER forget how much I love Kubrick.
- TriggerVFX, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1makes me wish I lived in the UK

No Strangelove :(
Cant wait though. - BrendanLynch, on 08/27/2008, -0/+0I'll answer this myself. It's Natureland by Amon Tobin.
Thanks for playing. - huhwhathuh, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1yeah, not cold at all out there... except for when Jack freezes to death
- TiggyThaiMein, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1Mo'fo?? Who you calling a mo'fo??!
- BrendanLynch, on 07/08/2008, -0/+0Very good! Anyone know the name of the song used through most of the ad?
- bdurkin, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1Am I the only one who thought Eyes Wide Shut sucked? I like all the other ones you mentioned except that one. For some reason the movie just blew. I mean, if it didn't have titties in it, I would have asked for my money back.
And I agree with others, start with Dr. Strangelove and take it from there. - duder83, on 07/08/2008, -1/+0frankly, this kind of creeps me out...

- SoundJudgment, on 07/08/2008, -6/+4That must have been the 'eyes of Kubrick' on drugs for compressing years of production time and location-shoots into 60 seconds.
Oh, and that wasn't even a Panavision! -20. :)
Haha. Well done. - Crazymaniacc, on 07/08/2008, -8/+5Submitted by MrBabyMan, this could be a bad ad and still make it to the frontpage
- bbqsalad, on 07/08/2008, -6/+2Well that is stupid. Jealous or something?
