- jacobfingrocks, on 12/25/2008, -7/+170And on the day before Aslan's birthday :(
- eTronicGaming, on 12/25/2008, -1/+137Eragon... that one was pretty much dropped after the first movie.
Also, Narnia isn't a trilogy... it's a series. - inactive, on 12/24/2008, -18/+102I actually liked the first one. And the second one exceeded my expectations, it was a pretty damn good sequel. The third would have been awesome no doubt. I love C.S Lewis' works.
- zoziw, on 12/25/2008, -1/+74It doesn't say it isn't being made, it says Disney is not acting as a co-producer and Walden Media is shopping it around.
- JKennyE, on 12/25/2008, -9/+80Not even a recession will keep Aslan down!
- loyalKNG, on 12/24/2008, -21/+79Holy cow. This would be a first for a trilogy to be dropped (at least to my knowledge). Though I haven't seen the 2nd Narnia movie yet... maybe that's why the 3rd is on the cut. On a serious note, my friend said it was a good movie.
- Wetzilla, on 12/25/2008, -1/+51I think His Dark Materials got derailed because it wasn't a very good movie, not because of the Catholic church.
- scooterbaga, on 12/24/2008, -8/+58Shame they didn't promote the 2nd like they did the first. I think that's a huge part of the issue. I didn't even know it was out until its theater run was over. Same with the DVD.
- jpwhitmore, on 12/25/2008, -1/+49Anyone ever seen the old BBC ones?
- SenorCardgage74, on 12/25/2008, -1/+44Im just here to say that its rad that AirRaven said "Aye"
- SquishyMon, on 12/25/2008, -3/+42Buried as inaccurate, Walden will likely partner with another studio as said in TFA.
- AirRaven, on 12/25/2008, -1/+38Aye, but the three books in question are more or less directly connected, rather than taking place with completely different characters in totally different environments.
...Ish.
Badly put, but these three form a kind of "trilogy within a series". - UselessTrivia, on 12/25/2008, -1/+35It's Narnia like 7 or 8 books?
- TheMarque, on 12/25/2008, -4/+38These movies received positive reviews and was a big hit at the box office. Stupid for them to do them. Weird also that I just watched the first movie tonight and at the end said, "I'm excited to see the third one sometime soon."
Crap. - XorpheusX, on 12/25/2008, -3/+34The second one underperformed at the box office, but it was by no means a failure. $200 million budget, $420 million tickets sold. That said, The first film cost $20 million less but made almost $750 million.
And that said, I didn't see the Prince Caspian in theaters. Apparently a lot of people didn't. I blame Robert Downey Jr. - inactive, on 12/25/2008, -0/+31Golden Compass flopped because they spent 100 million to produce a terrible movie. Not to mention the fact that I was tired of seeing kids adventuring.
- lovek, on 12/25/2008, -0/+31How will I ever find out what happens next!?
- Shaggy3, on 12/25/2008, -1/+31When the kids are 25.
- mustafya, on 12/25/2008, -2/+32I believe the Golden Compass was supposed to be a trilogy. It was dropped after the first movie bombed.
- clemsontiger, on 12/25/2008, -1/+27Since the scenery is so much different than the first two, I think this would be an expensive movie to make. There would be a lot of CG. I am a tad disappointed though. C.S. Lewis really made those books come to life.
- DrummerDudeXT, on 12/25/2008, -8/+32christian propaganda????
"Some people seem to think that I began by asking myself how I could say something about Christianity to children; then fixed on the fairy tale as an instrument, then collected information about child psychology and decided what age group I’d write for; then drew up a list of basic Christian truths and hammered out 'allegories' to embody them. This is all pure moonshine. I couldn’t write in that way. It all began with images; a faun carrying an umbrella, a queen on a sledge, a magnificent lion. At first there wasn't anything Christian about them; that element pushed itself in of its own accord."
C.S. Lewis - Of Other Worlds - Paradiddler45, on 12/25/2008, -1/+23WOOSH
- Ragarnok, on 12/25/2008, -1/+23Turkish Star Wars never completed the trilogy it set to realize, then again that might have been for the best
- bobbyi, on 12/25/2008, -1/+21Obviously, you didn't buy enough copies.
- shufan, on 12/25/2008, -2/+22I loved those books. The movie sucked.
- sanman, on 12/25/2008, -11/+30Let's not forget the derailment of His Dark Materials, thanks to the rabid activism of Catholic fanatics against The Golden Compass
The real life Magisterium seems more powerful and manipulative than the fictional one - lexbaby, on 12/25/2008, -0/+19Blame messing with the schedule. Successful first movie during the holidays, greedy execs think they have a summer blockbuster (they don't, it's a very good family film) and try to compete in May. Why? Prince Caspian would have raked in the dough if they left the holiday 2007 release date alone.
- Shaggy3, on 12/25/2008, -2/+21Well I read the Wikipedia and it sounded like the next movie could have had pirates in it. This cancellation is a major loss.
- pmharrell, on 12/25/2008, -1/+19Buried as inaccurate. http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/12/23/disney-leaves- ...
- ricree, on 12/25/2008, -0/+17I'm pretty sure that Dan Brown is living proof that Catholic protesters are pretty bad at derailing even extremely mediocre work. Golden Compass failed because they just didn't bother putting together a good movie, and spent a lot of money in the process.
- antdude, on 12/25/2008, -0/+16Aslan will be back, stronger. ;)
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -2/+17I'm just here to say that its tubular that GoaYoshi said "said".
- bmdt2000, on 12/25/2008, -2/+17I'm just here to say that it's wicked that SenorCardgage74 said "rad"
- GoaYoshi, on 12/25/2008, -2/+16I'm just here to say that it's gnarly that bmdt2000 said "wicked"
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -2/+16Acronyms are supposed to be both shorter and easier to say then the full phrase.
Acronym Fail. - MrWally, on 12/25/2008, -0/+14Aye. The third one was actually my favorite book. I love those "Seafaring Adventure" stories. This is a really big letdown. I really hope another studio is willing to pick it up.
- MrWally, on 12/25/2008, -0/+14Yeah, I was a die hard Narnia fan when I was younger. They were cheesy beyond belief, but I enjoyed the old series. It's a bummer BBC didn't get past The Silver Chair.
Now the BBC Radio versions . . . those were quality. Definitely my favorite medium to enjoy Narnia. - AirRaven, on 12/25/2008, -4/+17...The fact that they follow recurrent Christian archetypes doesn't in itself make them bad stories.
People still read and enjoy Orson Scott Card, don't they? - Collecto, on 12/25/2008, -1/+13I'm just here
- aflaks, on 12/25/2008, -0/+12I dont know what you are talking about, I thought the book was excellent!
- CFFL23, on 12/25/2008, -0/+11Another example of a good book that got completely raped in the movie adaptation: The Dark Is Rising. A faithful adaptation of that book would have kicked so much ass! Watching that movie made my inner child hurt.
- poxonyou, on 12/25/2008, -0/+11Learn to read articles ya'll. The headline for the article is DISNEY is dropping the series. A few sentences down and it sounds likely it'll be picked up by Fox. Everyone was set on starting to film the 3rd one this spring. If Fox (or another studio) picks it up quick enough, there shouldn't be a problem. The films did fairly well, and received generally positive reviews, so can't imagine other studios wanting nothing to do with it.
- aflaks, on 12/25/2008, -7/+18I really didnt like Caspian Prince or whatever the 2nd one was. It was corny as all hell and had a very generic/retarded plot with action scenes identical to every other action movie + fighting trees.
- SummerNight, on 12/25/2008, -0/+11Problem is, Lucy and Edmund are both in the Dawn Treader (if I recall correctly) - as they were in the previous movies, it's going to suck if they change the characters :-/
- warchant, on 12/25/2008, -3/+14shame....probably one of the best series of books ever to be written. hopefully someone else will pick it up.
- meyerj88, on 12/25/2008, -0/+11Ditto. Let's hope they find someone to co-produce a third. I thought the second was very good and it's definitely worth finishing the "trilogy."
- clarient, on 12/25/2008, -3/+13Well that sucks, I was really excited about Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
I'm just glad nobody tried to do A Horse and His Boy. - AirRaven, on 12/25/2008, -5/+15...Of course he did.
He *wrote* them! - KyleGoetz, on 12/25/2008, -0/+10My favorite one was always The Magician's Nephew. I'd like to that one as a film.
