- Beatlemaniac, on 10/29/2008, -6/+91My favorite scene was the whole movie.
- Trekhawk, on 10/28/2008, -4/+43A seven-month shoot. Damn. I guess quality takes time. I'm glad they put the time in.
- inactive, on 10/29/2008, -1/+23such a good read. i'm really impressed by how Nolan talked about specific lighting and camera choices. Over-exposing and such.
- urbandistrict, on 10/29/2008, -2/+20This article just further convinces me that this film is a masterpiece.

No, you don't have to be a complete ***** about it. - staffa, on 10/29/2008, -0/+10Don't agree about maggie, but that made me laugh

- Sabretou, on 10/29/2008, -1/+9Holy *****, how did you do that? You can't digg that comment up or down!
- da_bradler, on 10/29/2008, -0/+7It's when batman goes from Hero to some grey area. The point is he doesn't do everything for justice and peace, the truly heroic thing to do would be to violate his fundamental rule for the greater good. The joker kills dozens of people and Batman is completely incapable of stopping him because he is unwilling to sacrifice his own mental well being. Batman is even willing to violate the rights of every person in his city but he is not willing to kill one man who exists only to do harm.
Does not killing the joker make him a good guy? does it make him weak? does it make him part of the problem? these are the questions he is constantly contending with threwout the film. only threw a hollywood ending does he manage to avoid the question. How long can he keep it up? - NickLee808, on 10/29/2008, -1/+7Is that supposed to stop us from reading an interesting article about the director's perspective for an interesting movie?
Maybe some of us just want to read about that sort of crap instead of playing with our Iron Man toys. - inactive, on 10/29/2008, -2/+8
- kinseyincanada, on 10/29/2008, -2/+7***** that was such a good movie, cant wait for the Blu-Ray release
- whahaa, on 10/29/2008, -0/+5i concur.
- gospe1337, on 10/29/2008, -0/+4How exactly was the ending an answer to his personal questions? He's still haunted by the fact he is unsure of which persona is the mask (Batman or Bruce Wayne). He may have captured the Joker, but the shining symbol of integrity that he wanted to believe in is dead. He didn't do a noble thing. Lying isn't a noble thing. But, to him and Gordan, it was a necessary thing.
He's willing to do go beyond the rules because he believes in a justice. The Joker, in a way, was more principled than he was--yet, he had no belief in justice. Batman walks away haunted, hunted, and struggling. All he has is his notion of justice and nothing else. I'm not sure how that's a "Hollywood tie-together". - TwoKill, on 10/29/2008, -2/+6It is amazing how such a memorable seen from such a long movie is really just over 3 minutes long, and yet the director would probably talk for hours on it if you let him.
- Linguo, on 10/28/2008, -6/+10I also enjoyed this part of the movie the best. It's when Batman goes from Hero, to do anything for justice and peace i.e. a badass.
- rpad, on 10/29/2008, -0/+4As a comic-book fanboy, it's awesome to see Nolan so into the material and characters. Aside from RR in Sin City, I don't think any other director has made a quality comic-book film that shows so much respect for the source material. Hopefully Watchmen makes it a triumvirate!
- amanilaenvelope, on 10/29/2008, -1/+5My favorite part was the beginning , the end, and everything in between!
- clclark33, on 10/29/2008, -0/+4Batman is a superhero in part because he has the ability to kill the Joker on many occasions but doesn't do it. "The greater good" is no excuse to violate someone's rights, no matter how heinous his crimes. That is what makes Batman who he is. He's haunted by the idea that he and the Joker are (as he sees it) destined to fight each other until one of them is dead, but he refuses to kill the Joker.
- 0tis, on 10/29/2008, -0/+4I'm sorry to split hairs... but it's 'through', and 'throughout'.
Definitely agree with you there though, I'm looking forward to seeing where the next one (and I know what they've said... but there WILL be a next one) goes with this.
Catwoman might be good - there was always a thin line between criminal and heroine there. Not really a fan though... I'd love to see them carry on the mobster story, maybe introduce Holiday though. - Vosona, on 10/29/2008, -5/+9Women are not attractive if you can park a truck in the crevices of their face.
- somepuertorican, on 10/29/2008, -3/+6Brilliant scene; very powerful.
- NickLee808, on 10/29/2008, -1/+4If that scene was pivotal in establishing the central theme, I'd say that the the hospital scene (conversation between the Joker and Harvey Dent) sums it up IMO.
Would've loved to see him break that scene down too. - juniorb, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3What does ungurginal mean?
- Prototek, on 10/29/2008, -2/+5His favorite scenes are when he gets to talk in his super-cool, low voice.
- chaos7, on 10/28/2008, -9/+12good scene
- TwoDotOh, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3We've seen good guy/bad guy done a hell of a lot. While the line between good and evil is still there, it's a moving target; the boundaries aren't as easily recognized. When flaws are unilateral, believability suffers. "Good guys" are more authentic when their demons escape, even briefly, reminding you that they still exist.
Except that gravelly voice. Got used to it after a scene or two, though. - crushfan, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3Y so ungrgnl?
- MasterInsan0, on 10/29/2008, -1/+4I was really hoping that there would be a third movie. I didn't really want it to be another Batman vs. Joker movie, but I wanted the Joker to make an appearance. With Heath Ledger's death, that can never happen. =(
- LogicBomB, on 10/30/2008, -0/+2About as much as you pointing it out. Thanks.
- jschau2, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2This was great. I can't believe I haven't seen the film more than once in the theater--how did time get away from me? It was amazing to walk down the streets of Chicago for months and see the results of a hard night's work by the Batman crew!
- yrewol, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2I've heard that Johnny Depp is in talks to play Joker
- xinye, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Nolan is so talented.
- gospe1337, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Nolan's movies are pretty straight-forward in their manner. Almost all of them have a "nexus" scene. It all really stems from his first major film, Memento. At any rate, that was an interesting interview. Sad to say, a lot of people didn't realize how much of an integral scene this was.
- dreesemonkey, on 10/29/2008, -1/+3It was the fulcrum for me too, but more along the lines of "this movie is trying to do too much and it's too long". First 2/3 of the movie was exceptional, I feel like they could have cut a lot out.
Oh hai I'm two face and I'm really mad at you for blowing up my girlfriend joker, but you made a compelling 20 second argument so I'm not mad at you anymore, instead I'm going to be a bad guy now. Kthxbai! - dsmx, on 10/29/2008, -1/+2Well the start was pretty bad and it was all downhill from there.
Wait wrong batman film. - 9umber9ine, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1one question, why almost everyone slammed bale for his bat-voice? after all, it's all in nolan's grand plan
- LogicBomB, on 10/30/2008, -1/+2Might as well have said your favorite Country is the Earth. Or your favorite vegetable is all food.
- da_bradler, on 10/29/2008, -1/+2This is what pisses me off about the movie, all of the characters themselves are constantly struggling to stay within the bounds of what they think is right. the movie forces batmans no kill rule to the limit, forces him to deal with the consequences of trying to keep these hard lines.
But with about a half hour left the movie turns hollywood, constantly offering batman a way out of his personal questions, the movie lets him out, lets him capture the joker, lets him do a noble thing at the end.
But the ending goes completely against what the movie was about, the point is there are no easy way out, there is no "right" thing to do. But the ending trys to convince the audience at the last minute that yes all of batmans questions do have an answer and the answer is exactly what he did. I think that's ***** you can't bring up all these moral questions that are supposed to be unanswerable and then give them an answer.
the ending lets the audience off easy, instead of giving you something to think about it just gives you another hollywood hero. - slickrick2k1, on 10/29/2008, -2/+3disagree
- crmecozzi, on 10/29/2008, -1/+2who the ***** is miles lerman?
- MonkeyNews, on 10/29/2008, -1/+2"I guess quality takes time"
...
Honestly - did this even need to be said? - vinceislegend, on 10/29/2008, -2/+3What an excellent article. Christopher Nolan stands head and shoulders above his peers nowadays, and it's cool to see him sit down and dissect pieces of his art.
Dugg. - yahoofrom, on 10/29/2008, -1/+2wats wrong with being a nerd?
- AnthonyFTMFW, on 10/29/2008, -6/+7You're insane if you think she's attractive.
- toekneebullard, on 10/29/2008, -1/+2Man I need to see this movie again.
- schrankage, on 10/29/2008, -6/+5i liked the part where the joker was laughing.
