Chappelle's Show is "Done" says Charlie Murphy

tvguide.com — Chappelle's Show cast member Charlie Murphy, whose brother is the famous Eddie Murphy, is quoted in a TV Guide interview that Chappelle's Show is "Done". He says that Comedy Central has the 8 episodes that were filmed before Chappelle went AWOL and will more than likely will be a straight to DVD release.

    I understand that it might be over, but you guys have no hope! Maybe if there is enough desire, Chappelle and everyone might come back for the fans. VERY unlikely, but one can hope. I do hope they release what they already have of season three, I already have the season one DVD ripped onto every computer in the house and the DVD has been in the player for a while now.

  • Kirin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Loved Chappelle, like Mencia quite a bit too. Comparing the two isn't quite fair though since Mind of Mencia is more just flat out stand up while Chappelle was more skits with Dave doing wrap around descriptives and musical guests. Kind of similar, pretty different.

    As for either being racist, they aren't. Both of them pretty much specialized in pointing out the absurdities of everyone. As another person said, that's racial humor (which isn't a bad thing, everyone needs to learn to laugh at themselves), not racist.

  • cwoolf34, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It was a good show back before it got so mainstream that people who didn't even know who Dave Chappelle was (or didn't even watch his show) were saying his lines. The popularity was good for the ratings, but it brought in a whole new audience, one that Dave probably didn't care for.Its the suburban white teenagers that started saying those lines way too much. Near the end of the first season it got pretty mainstream. When people started saying stuff because they heard it was funny (and they didn't even get it), that was when it went out of hand. Not to sound superfisal, but I did watch the show from when it's first episode aired until about the first couple episodes of the second season. Oh, and Mencia isn't trying to rip off Chappelle, there is a whole genre of comedy of what Dave was doing. It wasn't anything that innovative, other then the fact that they actually filmed skits and had a studio audience to react to the skits. Chappelle is a great comedian, but I an see a lot of reasons he wanted out. A true comedian wouldn't "sell out" like he was starting too. But the suburban white teenagers were often the ones that payed most of the shows bills.

Open your eyes, if you've ever seen REAL comedy, then you would know that Stella doesn't make any ***** sense its all just random crap, i don't need to listen to mencia ***** dissing his own race, I've watched DL Hughely and changed the channel within minutes, and don't get me started on corolla, i didn't even need to see his show the commercials told me enough. Dave Chapelle is SHARP and witty, comes up with great skits not the crap mencia comes up with. The traffic sign was like his best skit and that wasn't worth a chuckle to say the least. Don't bother to reply to this quote if your gonna say im wrong, cuz ive seen enuf comedy to know whats ***** hilarious. Watch the SNL's with Chris and Spade and Sandler, or Monty python's flying circus or the holy grail movie. Also the movies with spade and farley in them kicked ass. I know this is a long qoute but i feel like i need to get this out of my system.

    Think the part about 4th Season and 2006 is where I got confused. Sounds like Chappelle doesn't want to sell out by submitting to pressure by the censors to take the show in another direction. Its the samething that happend to In Living Color just before the Keenan and the show almost completely lost its edge.

On top of that the stand-up they show is just not funny. Chappelle will be missed - but you could tell he was going crazy after you saw his mustache in that Showtime special.
