- cell00, on 10/12/2007, -5/+72And it deserves it.
- svardineni, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35People really need to stop crying about how it wasn't a bond movie, had a love story, not enough gadgets, etc. I'm tired of hearing it, all they want is cheap thrills. I say go watch XXX or Mi:3 for that! Glad to see Bond back in his roots.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30I'm not sure how you can possibly say that after the disaster that was 'Bond and the big ice palace with a reflective laser satellite thing.'
- Zique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Damn right. It seems some people want to see just another run-of-the-mill no-brain action movie. I'm so glad Casino Royale is much more than that.
- diggeasytiger, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33It must have been the 250,000 downloads that ruined the box office takings for this movie.... http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,1953896,00.html
oh wait... it made no difference at all. Piracy hurts no one. Anti piracy measures hurt everyone. - lokimon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24It was a different type of Bond, much more gritty. I kind of wanted more of that. Daniel Craig was an excellent choice.
Overall, a pretty good movie. The ending could have been a bit more put together, but as long as you don't think about it too much, it was good. - Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Agreed. Plus the whole hair colour thing, he had light coloured hair in the Flemming originals.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21wtf it didn't post half my post :(
heres the rest lol
"m is a woman"
"theres no gadgets"
"he doesnt bang the bond girl"
"the guns wrong its meant to be a berreta"
i love those reasons because, they forgot to notice all the cell phones, pda's, laptops, cars, gps stuff etc and focus on the gun not being the gun bond would have in 1950, (completely missing the fact the films set in 2006), the stuff at the beginning = parkour which is a actual sport and perfectly believable (sebastian foucan is one of the guys who invented the sport the other main guy being david belle) and currently the head of mi6 is a woman, and so was her predecessor so i dont see the problem there,
and because he's ugly and no gadgets? so ***** what? if you want to see a pretty boy prancing around with loads of funky gadgets etc watch tom cruise or nicolas cage or vin diesel.
i personally loved it and im a big bond fan, daniel craig gave bond that more believable grittier edge he's been lacking for years, perfect choice for a reboot, much like christian bale was the perfect choice for batman begins :-) - Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14It's a 2 parter, but agree you couldn't really tell from that ending.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12When Goldeneye came out they where playing old bond movies on TNT. I was about in my mid teens. After that I was hooked on Bond films. Even the old one's. I have all the old ones on VHS. To be honest I was starting to get disappointed with the ones after Goldeneye. They seemed like they where made for the A.D.D generation. While I'm 26 now, I still enjoyed the 1960 bond movies. After seeing this latest Bond the first thing that I said after the movie was, "About God damn time they make a real Bond film again!" Best Bond film yet!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13i loved it,
theres alot of people refusing to watch it/hating it for such pathetic reasons
"bond isn't BLONDE"
"the cg stuff at the start is unbelievable" - Jagdhund, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Yes well, even though it did follow the worst Bond film ever (and one of my most hated movies), Casino Royale is quite awesome in its own right.
It is of much higher quality in the realism and storyline aspects of moviemaking than the last 3 Bond movies combined. - armbar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11You obviously aren't speaking from experience.
- Chuck95, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@crunch
I respect that opinion. I too had a few points in the movie where I was scratching my head, but over all I give it a huge A+, if only for effort. They could have easily made a rehash of the same old (recent) Bond story and settled for decent money by coasting on the name alone. But they went out on a limb, made something new, went in a totally different direction than they had been going, and for the most part I thought it turned out well.
I thought Craig was awesome. I loved the more raw and gritty side too it and the added realism. I welcomed the move away from all the gadgets and pure action. I've hated how the recent ones are just action movies. I thought the whole card game part of the story was awesome. This one had more of Bond, just being Bond. The story was a little weak at points, but at least they tried. - dree, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16Most people like it. I thought the love story at the end was a bit too much but overall it was good.
Most critics like it too. - quentinp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Good Bond movie IMO. I like Daniel Craig, and the whole new relaunch thing. The movie lags a bit in the middle, but other than that it was quite good, and I'm looking forward to seeing more!
- soham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6New Bond rocks so much more than all the others
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6it's actually balls whipping.
- hiney, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I mean at least take out the part referencing the picture in Paris that isn't even there! C'mon!
- jmchez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think you forgot to add "as much".
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It made No. 2 in the US because [us] Americans rather see animated dancing penguins(Happy Feet) over a real movie. I hate the US..
- JohnKFisher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No. This is a reboot, not a prequel. Think Batman Begins, not Episode I
- batmanjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I thought it was a cool movie, it had great action.
In all honesty though, the plot was WAY too complicated for a bond film. They introduced too many "bad" guys.
The pacing was off, it felt as though it should have ended in about 3 spots, and then where it did end, left me very unsatisfied.
I had no problem with them taking the Bond franchise to a gritty level where he gets down and dirty with the bad guys and kicks there ass in the process. I liked that he made some rookie mistakes.
I can forgive the no gadgets(although it did hurt slightly), but I have a hard time forgiving the lamest of lame on screen romances that seemed so forced, and the whole scene in Venice seemed so last minute and just added in there, that I had a hard time enjoying it.
It is a great action movie, I thought the way they did the opening scene was top notch. I just didn't think it was a great Bond film.
Definitely see it. - ShakeWell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7nick cage is a pretty boy?? since when?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@sylentmode
you mean all the sony products
in a movie made by mgm who is owned by...
sony?
if they had nokia stuff and dell notebooks do you think the sony exec's would be very happy? :p
plus sony ericsson phones rock anyway lol - batmanjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ruskin
Actually if you watch other bond films, usually when he is state side, he is in a rental car, and it will usually be an American made car. Sorry to tell you, the car is only one of his awesome rides when a car is essential to the story line. - pushmouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Worst Bond movie ever? Moonraker anyone?
- abcdefghij, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Goldeneye: great movie with much european nuance, okay story, still got the touch.
Tomorrow Never Dies: dumb
The World is not Enough: dumber with BMW ad
Die Another Day: dumbest with Aston Martin, Bollinger, Omega, Thunderbird
Casino Royale: A+A+A+ (maybe as a result of coming out of three shipwrecks), a return to Bond roots. “Is that a Rolex?” “No, Omega” - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The one clear lesson from this new Bond is:
BRITS RULE! YES!
"Rule Britannia, Britannia rule the waves...."
Lets face it, only Brits have the balls to be James Bond.... - postal21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I work a theater with 7 digital projectors... and this movie is tight on it..
It has some of the over-done bond vs the world moments, but they are fairly minimal and make it one of the best bonds since the days of sean connery. - toranoko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Not a Bond fan, but picked the movie since I knew it would satisfy my two guy friends who love the series. I think they walked away fairly satisfied. I walked away pretty happy too. I was expecting more action and what not, since that's what my friends hyped up with the Bond movies, and I was a little disappointed with some of the sequences. However, Daniel Craig was sex, which totally made up for it. Would see the movie again purely for that factor.
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I know I'm seeing it
- rheaume, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No ! Wait! Daniel Craig is a failure! Happy Feet beat him first weekend! Wahhh!
That was Drudge Report and FauxNews last monday. F them - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The story was suprisingly deep, and go suck an egg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its defientley a lot different from recent Bond films,
but i seemed to really like it. - Seidoger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whatever.
I mean new movies will constantly make more money than the previous ones with time! The prices always go up.
So the next James Bond will outdo this one probably.. - bombadier337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm sorry but I haven't been so bored during a movie for a long time. I didn't mind Daniel Craig, but why did it have to be about a game of poker??? It took like an hour for the game to end.
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They way they edited it was a bit confusing. I thought there was a scene that was sensored when they cut the poker scene. They should've given a warning during the scene transition (like fade to white) so that viwers know that the cut was intentional. Other than that, the movie was excellent.
- smiertspionam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It wasn't penis whipping, it was ball whipping. If he was just hitting him in the dick, it wouldn't have hurt...
- Brokenmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Come on guys.. reboot? prequel? It's James Bond. Just because Die Another day was far ahead in tech.. (WORST 007 EVER) doesn't mean this is a prequel. Remember the 007 were theres a hotel in space? That was way in the future. 007's are not really a before or after. I don't think they ever recall exact previous moments in any movies.
Anyways.. Awesome movie, kinda long ( I know thats lame but there was so many times were it fades and your like that was a good movie, and boom more)(lol)
Go 007 - dysonlu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1After seeing the kind of numbers "Die Another Day" (arguable the worst Bond movie ever) posted (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchises/chart/?id=jamesbond.htm), I thought this series had reached the point of no return in terms of mediocrity and that the Bond fan-base was monopolized by stupid monkeys seeking cheap thrills.
I'm glad I was wrong. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just so you know, Bond's original gun WAS a Baretta. He was forced to use a Walther PPK by M later; apparently the baretta almost got him killed.
- GrahamStw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In the original book, the plot centres around a game of Baccarat, which would have been a lot more boring to a modern audience as most of them wouldn't know the rules.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casino_Royale_(novel) - kden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"They said this Bond was more hardcore. Other than certain fight scenes being modernized to look "hardcore" the character himself came across as a little stupid hardly able to pass as a diplomat or high roller."
He just became a Mi6, of course he isn't going to be perfect at the start. Casino Royale was good because it made bond look more human and not invincible like in the Pierce Bronson 007 movies.
My favorite part, when he got poisoned and the girl saved him and he goes back to the poker game. "That last hand nearly killed me." - keyrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1diehards are just worried that they're making Bond into a brainless thug, instead of the invincible classy guy that he should be. As long as the next one has him evolve into an really classy guy, then it's alright. If they take this brute, crass Bond and make him the standard, it kinda does stoop to the lowest common denominator.
- dysonlu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry, Digg screwed up the link. Here it is again:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchises/chart/?id=jamesbond.htm - bobbyi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Happy Feet was also a very good movie. Don't knock it if you haven't seen it.
- seansshack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So Daniel is not longer bash worthy. Amazing turn around. EA didn't even make a video game of this one and movie was being written of critically.
I agree it is a little long winded and would have been much better with about 20 minutes shaved off... - aran86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i downloaded it, but i also saw it in the theater. the quality of most bootlegs are worth what people pay for them.
- smiertspionam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The way in which he was swinging that rope, Le Chiffre would've merely been smacking the bottom of his dick upward, which wouldn't have hurt, unless Bond was maintaining a rock hard errection for some reason. Trust me, he was smaking him in the balls.....
