- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -2/+21That's all kinds of retarded.
I'm sick of people who think Cap is a boring character without having ever READ any Captain America. This is the guy who, in the 60s and 70s, when all sorts of ***** was going down, just ***** turned on the Government. Made himself representative of American values before American policies. This is the guy who looked at racial tension in the 60s and 70s and teamed up with a black PARTNER, not a sidekick, an equal partner.
Captain America is exactly the kind of hero we need today. Someone who will look at all the ***** going down in this country and say "no more". - erichw1504, on 11/10/2008, -2/+20Steve Buscemi as Captain America!
- sajuuk, on 11/10/2008, -0/+17And here we have someone who thinks they know something about comics but don't.
A) DC owns Batman, NOT Marvel.
B) Batman has NO superpowers - schizogony, on 11/10/2008, -0/+12I always thought Robert Redford would've made a great Captain America when he was younger.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+11i like the part where they make movies from comic books
- Tr33fiddy, on 11/10/2008, -0/+9Election's over. You can put hatred away for a while.
- chocula78, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8If a Captain America movie would promote steroid use, does that mean the Spider man movies told teenagers that getting bit by a genetically altered spider is ok too? I just rented the Incredible Hulk. I am dying to try bombarding myself with Gamma radiation.
Your stupidity will cause you to lose your speaking privilege someday, god willing. - DAC1138, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8Rocketeer director FTW!!!
- CoreyTamas, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7No better way to really stick it to Republicans than to make a surly post on Digg.
Get 'em right where it hurts. - fungusmonkey, on 11/10/2008, -1/+7Wow, this whole comment thread is full o' fail.
1. OP - Marvel doesn't make Batman movies, that's DC & Warner Bro's.
2. Batman doesn't have powers, let alone a "superpower"
3. Cap doesn't use steroids. He was injected with the super soldier serum, then bombarded with "vita-rays" to enhance his body to peak physical condition. Later, he even lost the super soldier serum, so he's all natural.
4. He's a Captain because he's on the front-lines fighting with the soldiers, not back in the bunker coordinating or back at base plotting troop movements.
Captain America is a great superhero, not to mention a great comic book.
- fknrat, on 11/10/2008, -1/+7They better use the old 1960s Marvel Comics Hour theme song!
WHEN CAPTAIN AMERICA THROWS HIS FIGHTING SHIIIEEEELD...
With Matt Damon as Captain America and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the Red Skull. - Amazetbm, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6Batman is a D.C. Comics character, not Marvel. Batman doesn't have any super powers, just a bunch of cool gadgets and nearly limitless financial resources.
- Klowner, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5Jurassic Park III's directing was fine, it was the story that was a bit silly
- Dudemeyster, on 11/10/2008, -1/+6Jurassic Park III sucked balls, but his other movies are pretty good.
- 1807, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4MAAAAAT DAMON!
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4Nothing about Jurassic Park III was fine.
- Meursault, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4I dunno if I'm hot for CGI of a shield getting tossed around. They should set it in 1942 so he could have his original shield beating the crap out of Nazis.
- greenvortex, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4"Son, you've a star-spangled panty on your head."
- bluezombie, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4I hate those pop-up ads that block the article text.
- fungusmonkey, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Okay, I'm thinking either Aaron Eckhart, Daniel Craig, or Gerard Butler as Cap, and then Jason Isaacs as the Red Skull.
No Bucky, please (or at least make it like the Ultimates Cap, where Bucky is an old man in the present) - bigstinky, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Cap's back!
I remember reading Cap in first grade. First time I ever read the word "Nazi." I thought it was pronounced Nayz-eye.
Cool to see it's finally happening. - inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3And Mark Gruenwald once wrote a story that explored the relationship between the Super Soldier Serum and performance-enhancing drugs.
IIRC, it was called Streets of Poison, and it was pretty interesting.
RIP Gru - inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+4Jurassic Park III director ftl.
- chocula78, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Michael C. Hall for Captain America. I'm starting that campaign NOW!
- UselessTrivia, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3You really think Michael Bay is a first tier director?
In profile and salary only. - Spideristic, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3JP3 aside, The Rocketeer and October Sky are some of Johnston's better films.
- baltar2008, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2I hope they borrow alot from The Ultimates. Especially the WW2 version of Cap's uniform.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2If Watchmen is the success everyone is hoping it will be, Zach Snyder will have his pick of superhero movies to direct.
- OutlawSundown, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2If you don't like them don't watch them no one is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to watch them.
- kds405, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Marvel seems to be letting the star and source material carry a lot of their more recent film .I can't say I disagree with them. Sam Raimi and Ang Lee injected to much of their own style into the comic book films and it became overbearing and distracting at times.
- PrismoFillusion, on 11/10/2008, -1/+3Around 10 years ago I was at a family reunion at an upscale hotel in upstate New York. My younger cousin, who was around 10 at the time, ran up close to Redford and waved to him. Robert proceeded to give my cousin the middle finger and continue walking to his car.
My cousin turned into a dick (figuratively), so while I used to think this made Redford a real jackass, now I kind of respect him for it. - inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2You mean ... like here ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_America_(1991 ... - bruins72, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2I really hope this is done well. If done properly, it could be a great movie. Honestly, I'd be happy to see this as a franchise soley done in the WWII period but you know they're going to end the first movie with Cap being frozen and then fast forward to the future where he'd be revived for The Avengers. If they were going to keep this a WWII era story, I could see it having an Indiana Jones flavor to it. Lots of fun!
Aaron Eckhart has the right look for the part but he might be too old. Brad Pitt has that All-American look that would work too. Preferably, they'd find an actor in his mid to late 20's for the part. - UselessTrivia, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Same here with the Nazi pronunciation. I knew the word Nazi...but I always thought it was spelled like "Natsi" or something...pretty sure the first time I read it was in Social Studies class, and I was very confused. Teachers were a little shy with throwing around the word Nazi.
- leerayIG88, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2agreed.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Joe Johnston? The ***** guy who designed Boba Fett? Coolies.
- morogolus, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Captain American doesn't have any powers either. He's genetically "perfect" from the super solider serum but he can't shoot laser beams from his eyes or lift a tank over his head.
- nabor605, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2but..but...Transformers had such a great plot! They were fighting over a black GameCube!
- Tr33fiddy, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Damn you, CoreyTamas. Reading your comment was the wrong thing to do while drinking Ribena.
- cadmiumpaint, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2I really loved the Rocketeer and i think Johnson knows how to make those americana comic hero type movies. I think he'll do fine with Cap America.
- sLydE, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Aquaman is one of the most boring, Captain America has a huge lead on coolness ahead of Aquaman.
- UselessTrivia, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1I agree that Transformers kicked ass action-wise. I also liked Bad Boys and The Rock.
He's a popcorn-flick director...and a good one at that. Superhero movies aren't just action movies anymore...Iron Man proved that. - cyranthus, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1for some reason i thought... Captain Planet when i read this article... phwew...
- Greengoo, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Batman didn't get bitten by a bat... he doesn't even have super powers....
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1At least until Aquaman grew a beard and got a badass hook.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Yeah...when I was a kid, I didn't realize that the Nazi was spelled that way. I had heard people talk about them, but I thought it was spelled Nahtzee (Yahtzee with an N); I had read about Nazis, but I thought they were a different group of people. Kids think strange things...
- OutlawSundown, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1 Really seems like a solid choice for Marvel. Granted Jurassic Park 3 was incredibly forgettable October Sky and the Rocketeer were well done. The rest of his films are pretty solid. Marvel has had a pretty good track record so far so they've got my confidence.
