Can Blu-ray Save Blockbuster?

blog.wired.com — The DVD may have less than a decade before it goes the way of VHS. Until then, Blockbuster thinks (or hopes) Blu-ray is breathing some life into the movie disc. The ailing rental chain says it saw "consistent growth" in sales of Blu-ray devices in what was an otherwise lackluster quarter.

  • DestroyFascism, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1No. I have to drive to get there, I have to drive to rent a video and then pay a fine if I am late... I would rather download and read digg while doing so.
  • sjbdallas, on 08/09/2008, -1/+1Blu Ray can't save Blockbuster anymore than copying Netflix's mail based store was able to save it. When a company goes so far downhill like BB has, their only hope is a disruptive technology, not an improvement on a previous technology which blu-ray is. They should have leapt over disc-based media and gone for downloadable content.
