- thedragon4453, on 09/07/2008, -4/+53I'm conflicted. On the one hand, its not The Airbender Avatar, on the other hand, this movie looks like it could be cool.
edit: Read the wiki and Shyamalan is making Airbender? Ugh. I'm surprised that anyone still lets him make movies. - chadisawesome, on 09/08/2008, -6/+47What about Aquaman?
- Sornos, on 09/07/2008, -9/+40Shyamalan is a very good director. You can argue whether he is a good writer or not, but his directing is superb.
- dweeb79, on 09/08/2008, -5/+30IMO James Cameron is the greatest "all around" blockbuster director.
Can he tell a story that can suspend belief for a few hours? Yes.
Does the dialog suck? No it doesn't. Some people might not like it, but it usually never sucks.
Greatest FX director? Without a doubt.
Micheal Bay could be contender if he could fix his plot and dialog problems.
He's had just about 10 years come up with something to shock and wow the audience. I'm extremely excited to see what he has in store for us. - apikoros, on 09/08/2008, -0/+19"I am being strictly factual," added Cameron. "This has nothing to do with marketing."
- estacado, on 09/08/2008, -3/+20It may be bigger than Titanic, but I doubt it will be able to rake in bigger money.
- Timmyftw, on 09/08/2008, -0/+15Entourage FTW
- MikeFromAmerica, on 09/08/2008, -1/+15That's what she said.
- slapded, on 09/08/2008, -6/+19I've learned in life when someone says something is going to be big.. it usually is the opposite.
- dcherryholmes, on 09/08/2008, -1/+13Abyss rocked.
- aspec, on 09/08/2008, -0/+10It's ok Chad, I thought your joke was funny.
- sindex, on 09/08/2008, -2/+10Agreed. He's certainly a terrible actor, but as a director, he's top notch. I think the biggest problem with Shyamalan films is no one knows how to market them, so 90% of the audience walks in expecting a "horror" or "sci-fi" film when they're usually simple family dramas and the "sci-fi" bit is pretty much negligible.
Then again, maybe some people just think he sucks. =) - flossdaily, on 09/08/2008, -1/+8I thought the special effects in Titanic were extraordinary. But you go ahead and be a rebel. Whining about stuff that most people like makes you look cool!
- myxyplik, on 09/08/2008, -0/+7Great, now where's our trailer?
- stellamaris, on 09/08/2008, -1/+7Titanic came out in 1998, before widespread digital media and pirating. The market was different then, and it also didn't cost as much to see a movie. I know some people who saw it three or four times in the theater. The largest-grossing day was Valentine's day of 99. It was the first movie to be released on DVD while still playing in the theaters. All of this contributed to it making so much money, and it will be hard to top.
Yeah, so I watched the end of TItanic on TNT the other night and looked up the trivia on imdb. - inactive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6It was also a chick flick with action elements for the dudes.
I admit, I saw it 3 times in the theatre and loved it.
Think of The Dark Knight meets Mamma Mia! - inactive, on 09/07/2008, -5/+11While we're on the subject, can we just go ahead and take Shyamalan's directing of the movie as the surprise twist and just try to spare this movie of his pretentious bullcrap?
- Schmidtopolis, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6You either die a good director, or you stay alive long enough to make ***** movies.
Regardless, I'll see an Airbender move even if Boll directs. - xombi242, on 09/08/2008, -4/+10Funny if it completely fails instead.
- cfuse, on 09/08/2008, -0/+5I'm scared that it will be a case of the Lucas effect.
- illt, on 09/08/2008, -1/+6Please don't compare michael bay to James Cameron.
James Cameron wrote the screenplays and stories for his films.
Terminator 2 is probably one of the greatest action sci-fi's.
Michael Bay couldn't ever write a screenplay, let alone his own stories.
He's done action, comedy, drama, 3d, and now blockbuster full length 3d.
One of my favorite directors. Maybe not the best, but he's definately directed films that are consistantly very enjoyable.
My dream movie would be ender's game 3d animation dir. by James Cameron. - neocreo, on 09/08/2008, -0/+5The Abyss rocked! What are you talking about?
Sure, the original cut wasn't too good, but the directors cut was very very sweet. - inactive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+5Shouldn't *have* been.
- asnider, on 09/08/2008, -1/+5So, basically, Michael Bay could be good if he didn't suck? Brilliant analysis.
- Timmyftw, on 09/08/2008, -1/+5I wonder whats digging you down? That you complimented cameron or ragged on bay.
- so1omon, on 09/08/2008, -0/+4He's not saying that Avatar will be a bigger commercial hit than Titanic... He's saying that the scope of production of Avatar is far greater than that of Titanic. There is no marketing hype involved here. Doesn't anyone have reading comprehension skills anymore?
- Timmyftw, on 09/08/2008, -1/+5The less Peter Molyneux talks about fable II, the more excited I get about the game.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+4"I'm surprised that anyone still lets him make movies."
You weren't expecting it? Success. - RogaDanar, on 09/08/2008, -1/+4A movie based on the Ultima series? Sweet!
- dweeb79, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3No that's not what I'm saying.
Micheal Bay is an amazing FX director that is able to wow the audience without providing them any substance. I never said he sucks and I don't think he sucks. I just think his films suffer from weak plot points and dialog. - neuralcooker, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3My next project will be bigger than my old projects!
Who doesn't say that? - rexprime, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3at least its not Uwe Boll's Avatar.
- Jektal, on 09/08/2008, -1/+3He's got a good track record, and I like the time & attention he seems to have spent on this. However, it also sounds like he's a giddy kid who just learned how to use some toy and is enamored with it. Kind of like Lucas' over-reliance on CG in the SW prequels.
- rowlodge, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2just happy he's working hard on a" alienish" sci fi film again, cant wait to see even some previews, or still shots.
- dweeb79, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2You have to compare Michael Bay to James Cameron because they are the premiere blockbuster directors.
They do it big, loud, and expensive. - darwinwins, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2there really isn't any movies i dislike. i like all of them on some level. even titanic's second half was pretty damn epic. he doesn't skimp, i'll give him that.
he hasn't made many movies but then again he doesn't have to. he takes his time and doesn't turn out crap after crap. - illt, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2well james cameron always says that about his films...and he pretty much hasn't failed to deliver...
terminator, aliens, abyss, true lies, titanic...all pretty much really enjoyable films. - TheUngod, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1...Nolan anyone? While his resume doesn't have much on it, they were all amazing films.
- culbeda, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Well, if it's going to be bigger, I should go see it. Thank you for the unbiased information, stranger with no profit motive whatsoever.
Cameron - shameless doesn't begin to describe his self-promotion - thedragon4453, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2Actually, I am just really tired of him trying to do a "twist". I skipped The Happening, but the need to put in a twist has made for lamer and more convoluted twists (and plots.) Perhaps a movie that he didn't write will be good.
- kansai22, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Considering all of the Hindu elements in The Air bender Avatar Shyamalan is perfect for it.
- memsom, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Here's an idea... bring back.... Dark Angel.
- aargh01, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2You go watch the Happening and tell me he's a good director.
Make good note of all the brutal over-acting, of all the terribly arranged scenes (aside from the first ones where people start killing themselves), and the constantly I-wish-these-were-actually-menacing-and-not-stupid shots of plants moving in the wind.
Yeah. You go watch the Happening. - SpongeBad, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1You forgot Piranha II.
- AcidVision, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1bring it on cameron i'll be first in line
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1pretty sure Shyamalan's christian...
- sevvo, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Dugg for Ultima IV.
- antdude, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1That streak won't last forever. ;)
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2Stereoscopic 3D? ughhhhh...
- MageSTYK, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1James Cameron is a Visionary. If you never seen the Special Edition of "ALIENS" 3 DVD's with all the documentury and behind the scene footage then Check it out. It has at least 5 hours worth of stuff. Besides the Movies(Theatre and Directors version)You'll be amazed at his skills. He wrote, directed, made and painted/sketched the charaters and weapons on the movie. Almost 90% of the stuff that's in the movie the U.S. military have been trying to duplicate for years to field to their soldiers.
The same applies to The "ABYSS".
I must say though apparently he's a demanding person and a perfectionist, BUT it shows in his work.
Not to many people also know that he helped write RAMBO 2. It might be hokey today, but in the 80's it was a HUGE hit specially with the cold war that was going on. Also James Cameron was the Primary director for the Original Spiderman and wrote a VERY good danm script, but with all the legal problems that was going on at the time with the companies he backed away from it. -
