I can see that. - tomer79, on 12/30/2007, -1/+34A big test for Sacha, that should be very interesting to see him do a non-comic role.
- chaosium, on 12/30/2007, -2/+32That is a great casting choice.
- Shalaby, on 12/30/2007, -1/+19I'd watch it.
- EvanVolm, on 12/30/2007, -0/+17It's weird that almost every comedic actor does fantastic in a dramatic role. I'm sure this'll be interesting...
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -1/+15"used a series of pranks to campaign against the war." Sounds comic to me.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -3/+14There are those of us who see Abbie Hoffman as a little more than a "figure from the 60s counterculture". His patriotism until the minute he died was unmatched by *anyone* since. I do hope he is portrayed as an individual who did what he did for the good of the country, not the good of his own ego, as it is too often told by mainstream media.
- celkin, on 12/30/2007, -1/+9HIGH FIVE
- wierdaaron, on 12/30/2007, -5/+12An actor got a part in a movie? We must inform the internets!
- purpureus, on 12/30/2007, -1/+7Any accurate portrayal of Hoffman leaves ample space for comedy. "No more jokes" is a bit misleading.
- neocr0n, on 12/30/2007, -0/+5I obviously wouldn't know but they say if you can act in comedy you can act in anything. Hope he does well, i'll be looking out for it.
- MikeonTV, on 12/30/2007, -1/+6He is basically Hoffmans twin!
- chakktor, on 12/30/2007, -0/+5There is also a movie called "Steal This Movie" with Vincent D'Onofrio as Hoffman.
- RubberbandLN6, on 12/30/2007, -0/+4You could also add Adam Sandler to the list, he was terrific in Punch Drunk Love and also quite good in Reign Over Me.
- itsbob, on 12/30/2007, -0/+4Cool, the guy is seriously talented. Anyone who could pull off the variety of characters as long as he does has potential to be a great actor.
I would see it. - inactive, on 12/30/2007, -1/+5IS NICE!! Its awesome that Spielberg is making a movie on this topic.
Here's a link to Abbie's book:
http://books.google.com/books?id=VpIY6sDR07QC&dq=s ... - bjornski, on 12/30/2007, -3/+7Continuing the theme would have sucked. Everyone is wise to the game now.
- yfguitarist, on 12/30/2007, -0/+4You got the reference! Congrats!
- Markpdotcom, on 12/30/2007, -1/+5I don't think it'll be that much of a test. If you've seen any of his characters in very tricky situations he is always flawless, keeps his composure and never comes out of character! Even when those red necks were going to lynch him (he was playing a gay character) at the rodeo.
- BossKey, on 12/30/2007, -0/+3All I know is that now I'm going to be really suspicious if I see "Abbie Hoffman" around.
- merwin, on 12/30/2007, -0/+3Robin Williams
- friedcalamari, on 12/30/2007, -1/+4It's a nice, how much?
- GamerVer05, on 12/30/2007, -0/+3Or suicide, but by pills nonetheless
- thepandoras, on 12/30/2007, -2/+4I love the idea. I remember when the rumors of him playing Freddie Mercury were going around.
But I'm excited to see a new Abbie Hoffman movie. Abbie is even my Zune background. =] - GamerVer05, on 12/30/2007, -0/+2***** yes, I still have "Revolution for the hell of it"
- cugar, on 12/30/2007, -0/+2wonder if forrest gump and jenny will be in the movie when hes talking at the washington monument
- yfguitarist, on 12/30/2007, -0/+2I read that it was an accidental overdose.
- yfguitarist, on 12/30/2007, -1/+3As you watch Da Ali G Show you notice moments where he comes dangerously close to laughing out loud. Nonetheless, how he stays in character so well is astonishing.
- yfguitarist, on 12/30/2007, -0/+2Jim Carrey, Bill Murray and Tom Hanks come to mind. Who else am I missing?
- supermanred, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1Please, don't compare that one trick dick to Sascha. Borat, Bruno and Ali G are 3 different characters. Every Jim Carrey movie stars the exact same character.
Hmmm, Im defending a Jew and putting down a fellow Canadian. I'm getting soft in my old age. - MetalliTooL, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1i wonder how good his American accent is.
- supermanred, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1It was hilarious in Britain for years before he came to America. Too bad youtube pulled most of the clips or I wouldve linked them for you.
- DeadlyCouncil, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Cohen suprised me in Sweeney Todd, he can be as serious as he is funny... it was downright scary
- supermanred, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1People in Britain and Europe knew him before we did. I started watching Borat on the British show here in Canada years before anyone in the US saw it.
- supermanred, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1I don't believe anything anyone says, but if I stopped watching movies that involved Ashkenazi Zionists in the production or in the cast, I would have to s top watching movies altogether.
- robbob, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1...because it works so well for Jim Carrey
- c0n724ll10n, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1Well Borat would suck if it wasn't in America.
- matteusx, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1I can't think of anyone better to play Hoffman than Cohen. Congrats!
- valleyvideo, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the fact that Abbie Hoffman, of course, is the original Digger. In Revolution for the Hell of It, Hoffman separated out those who 'got it' as Diggers -- individuals who loved life and acted from a positive outlook.
- bitspace, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1I'd digg this comment repeatedly if I could.
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1I asked his son what he looked like when he found the body. How about you?
- flaterates, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1Yeah I know. Pot these days is awsome. It's just the speed that sucks, and the heroin, coke, and acid. Born in 1950 and raised in Laurel Canyon. I knew some of these guys.
- waalter, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1About the war in Viet-*****-Nam!!
- supertaliman, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1What Dreams May Come and The Truman Show were great movies.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1it's anti-use of the word crap.
anti-crapists. - supermanred, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1Remind me not to take your movie advice in future, though Truman Show was okay it could've been better with a different actor.
- MWeather, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1Me too. He's dead.
- zonk3r, on 12/30/2007, -2/+2Awesome, I think he'll do a great job of it.
BTW, for those of you who don't know where The Pirate Bay got the name of their movie "Steal This Movie", you should go read Hoffman's book "Steal This Book":
http://www.amazon.com/Steal-This-Book-Abbie-Hoffma ... - PhilThePhenom, on 12/30/2007, -1/+1It seems like there's a new person portraying Abbie Hoffman every 5 years.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -1/+1All seven were found not guilty of conspiracy, and the incitement charge was overturned. The case was clearly trumped-up political persecution. And besides, that's not what the author was referring to by "pranks."
Some of the more infamous pranks Hoffman was responsible for were running the popular campaign of a pig for President, disrupting the Wall Street stock exchange by showering the trading floor with cash, and mailing thousands of spliffs (provided by Jimi Hendrix) to random people throughout the US. -
