      I always think people forget about the movie as a whole and focus solely on final monologue. The film felt liked it forced and the dialog felt cheesy which can be easily seen in William Dafoe's character.

      I know this film has a huge cult following but I'm just not one of them.

  • Kronk42583, on 07/21/2008, -25/+15i'm sorry. i've seen the first one 3 times. and it keeps getting worse. that movie is almost unbearable to watch. any interesting film devices the film uses quickly get tired from overuse. there is horrid overacting(willem dafoe) and loads of unneccesary garbage and preaching that bring down what could have been a promising film. watch it again. i dare you. that movie sucks.

This is one of those sequels I have been waiting for and knew was coming from the end of the first movie, but I almost don't want to see it out of fear that it won't live up to the initial bad ass-ness of the first Saints.

Duffy ripped a big ***** page out of the Tarantino book ala Pulp Fiction, only he missed all the nuances that made Pulp Fiction an awesome film.

        ...then there are the cinematography lifts, which i won't get into...

        I won't touch on themes/story or lack thereof. As cinema Boondock Saint's doesn't take itself seriously...it's still a terrible film with quite possibly the most annoying fanbase. Duffy is a douche bag, and of all movies that don't need sequels this is one of them.

        That is your opinion, I respectfully disagree. Despite the fact that there are a few similarities between PF and Saints I really don't think that it's any more then coincidence. Please feel free to prove me wrong. Not to mention that BS is just a really fun movie, I couldn't care less if you think it is a ripoff of something else, or if it's cinematicly inferior to your favorite movies. I find it enjoyable no matter how many times I see it and that doesn't hold true for many other movies, even good ones.
      • f4nt0m4s, on 07/21/2008, -1/+1If you remove the cinema, then you are left with a movie that is thematically void. Boondock Saints is a stylistic piece, and if I want to watch one of those I'll watch Snatch or The Usual Suspects.

        You're entitled to your own opinion...my opinion is that Boondock Saints is fluff...a popcorn flick of sorts, only with quite possibly the most annoying performance by Dafoe, and a few other setbacks that make me not want to watch it.

The dialogue was pretty cheesy and the overall story was kinda weak; however, it was very entertaining and I was able to watch it all the way through despite my adhd.       My favorite part was at the end where that reporter is talking about how she brought up seeing Boondock Saints with Weinstein way after he buried the film, and Weinstein was still excited about how good of a movie it was. It's just that Duffy was such an ass, he wasnt going to go anywhere in Hollywood.

It was made by everyone else around him, their talents, with his loose idea and his big ego attached. I am in the business of moviemaking and I know it's a completely collaborative process. BUT I have to say that the "ideas" he admits to having for the original vision of Saints is pretty awful. It was a handful of people working around him (including the now 'strangely' absent DeFoe) who honed it down to the great movie it is today. He freely admits such facts about others' contributions without realizing that by doing so it makes him irrelevant. That makes him out to be more of a douchebag than he actually is, which is a major feat! He's like the Navidson House of douchebags.

I think it's decent but agree it's overrated and people get a bit too crazy about it. But that duffy guy did come off as a prick in the overnight film. Ironically, it's the only reason I rented Boondock.
    Thought it was so-so but I'm not a huge action flick guy. Just didn't think it was too clever or that the plot was that complicated or original.
