It already came out next year - IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -6/+57Is "cracked up" the new code word for "huge erection"?
- mrmcbastard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35It cost that much to make Sharon Stone's CGI vagina.
- GravyTrain6, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31for "no comment" you sure do have something to say.
- chrisinsocalif, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20I think Hollywood is running out of Ideas. They need to quit making TV shows into movies and remaking old movies into new ones. Where are all the fresh new plots?
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18How could Basic Instinct 2 cost 70 million?
- GravyTrain6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16digg really needs a delete comment button.
- PabloIV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15It could be a delete button that runs out just like the edit button, there's just way too many wrong replies these days.

- Callidus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19The Fountain...lol, I am sorry but as serious as that movie tried to be, my friends and I cracked up when Hugh Jackman began to furiously gulp down tree semen.
- MikeOSX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I think he meant that there were no comments at the time it hit the front page.
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Nah, it would lead to to many people trying to cover their asses wen their joke completely tanks.
- merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I thought the Fountain was good... I think its one of those films that will get more recognition as it gets older.
- Rayor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The Sixth Sense is over-rated. I loved Unbreakable though.
- DontSayFanboy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14I think you mean CGIna
- Tochi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Another news article chewed up and spit out as a blog post. At least he links to the orginal article (which has much more content):

- bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Well even Borat cost $17 million!!
How the hell that movie could cost so much is mind boggling!"
Okay, I'm admittedly not in the movie business (aside from my own amateur projects). But let's figure Borat was shot over a one year period. Let's assume Sacha Baron Cohen was paid like $5 million for it (I have no idea how much he made; surely someone else knows). Then let's assume he has 10 crew members with him the whole time, and they get paid $50,000 each. Now let's factor in writers (IMDB says there's like 3 or 4 in addition to Cohen). Next, let's think of distribution, promotion, flight expenses (you have a crew of 10, remember?), hotel accommodations, food, equipment, tapes, and legal expenses (folks who write up those release forms air-tight). $17 million isn't that outrageous even for Borat. Just take a look at the closing credits; all of those folks got paid something. - cresswga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Clerks 2 made over $24 million so it made nearly 5 times it's budget. In terms of profit/cost was one of the most successful movies of the year.
- HouseofEl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Matchstick...
Clerks II made 10 million in it's first weekend and ended up making 25 million overall. Just a heads up that's all. In fact every film with the exception of Jersey Girl was a theatrical success. It even ended up being a commercial success with DVD.
tehsuck....
How about giving an original opinion? - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Why isn't Superman on there?
Didn't they spend like $300 million on that? - nsosin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6there's a school of thought that says that every story is simply a rewrite of another one and that all stories have already been written.
- tweak50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The fountain was one of the best movies ive seen in a LONG time. I dont think it did well because the trailers made it seem like a much different movie than what it turned out to be.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8all that CG work on Sharon Stone :p
edit: OK I'M SLOW - mdigirol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5geeze that movie was horrible
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree - and people will watch it in Europe, and buy it on DVD, so I think it will make back its cost, unlike say Basic Instinct 2.
- MatchStick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6i was surprise one of my favorite movies this year, Clerks2 wasn't on the list. It only made $5M opening weekend. But then producing it only cost $5M so... snoochy boochy noochies
p.s. Kevin Smith is the man - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4chrisincali: I think you are right.
How many movies in recent years have been remakes? You do not have to watch too many movies to see a trend towards formulaic plots, stereotypical characterization and undisguised political propaganda.
It all starts with writing and if that goes stale, all the flashy production, expensive promotion and a cast full of pretty people isn't going to make it work. - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well, I liked it, but I'm not surprised it didn't make any money..
- Veritas77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@milambyr...a real "evening with Kevin Smith" isn't actually that cool...that DVD is excellent, but the viewer benefits from healthy editing because 95% of the people that ask Kevin questions asked the SAME F*CKING QUESTION and that question always began with "I'm an aspiring screenwriter/actor/fluffer..." Makes you want to throw a brick at them. The one I attended you could hear an audible groan from the audience when one of these tools would get up to the mike.
- mikeneilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Lady in the Water was really terrible. I don't know what is happening to M. Night Shamalamadingdong lately, but I am starting to wonder if he is really the same guy who was behind The Sixth Sense (one of the better movies I have seen in a long time).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They forgot Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny which only made $3 million opening weekend..
- PabloIV, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That's why Kevin Smith movies keep on being made, he makes them for peanuts, and after DVD sales they bank tons of cash. That and they're hilarious, except Jersey Girl, WTF Kev? WTF?
- DrDabbles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3/points and laughs like Nelson
HA HA! - igraham09, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like Shamalamadingdong's movies, but the thing is; I would expect them to make ***** in DVD sales. Why? There is ZERO re-watchability. There is one secret that ties the whole movie together, like in The Village and The Sixth Sense, you watch them once, and they suck the second time. I bought the Village DVD and I regret it; it's not fun to watch anymore. Signs however, I could watch a few times before it got old.
I haven't seen Lady in the Water, but I'm guessing it'll be tied together by one crucial secret like (most of) his other - jsd8cc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@chrisinsocalif
Yeah, there's one on the list. It's called The Fountain. And it was a "flop". So apparently people don't like original stories, either. - JoshuaWood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I actually loved Jersey Girl, much better than I expected even as a Kevin Smith fan. I felt really bad for him that he made a great, touching movie that got ***** on because of the whole ben and jen thing.
- LordStandley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"No comment, 20 diggs and this is a front page news :"
How do you still not get it?
Obviously the right people dugg the first 20 so it ended up quicker than normal. It's not that hard to figure out.
The more pull a digger has (cliffosakajapan for example) with a particular digg he makes, the higher it ranks the page for front page news.
I bet if you took the top 10 diggers with the most pull and had them digg one story, and only had there diggs on that story, it would hit the front page with only 10 diggs because what they say is considered important to the digg community.
So if those top guys think a story is front page worthy it will go there much quicker than some random guy who just signed up today to start digging.
I still dont get how this concept evades some people. - Rayor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ PabloIV
Jersey Girl wasn't supposed to be funny. Kevin Smith wanted to make a movie about parenthood.
I'm tired of people that see Kevin Smith's name on something and automatically think it will be funny like his other movies.
When he was writing for Daredevil, one of my friends bought a copy of it. He hated it because it wasn't like his other work. - slowspin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At least he didn't say "Title says all".
Oh wait... he pretty much did. - glock22ownr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The original Poseidon w. Gene Hackman was much better, acting was much better. Bit corny by todays special effects standards but still an awesome movie.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I saw it last night, and loved it. The people actually talk like Normal everyday people. You can almost relate (except for the being a total loser, 30 and flipping burgers part)
- floorman56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Remake "The Blue Max"?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well even Borat cost $17 million!!
How the hell that movie could cost so much is mind boggling! - baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"unlike say Basic Instinct 2"
unless they put all 576 takes, where they tried to get the perfect spread cooeter shot, on the bonus DVD. - Toast1185, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2On the subject of over-invested movies flopping. Where are all of these low-budget story driven movies that George Lucas (as read from my digg FP) said were the future of movie making. I'm waiting, and wading through explosion-fests interlaced with the same plot line over and over again.
- thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Guess it costs a lot for Stone to spread her legs again.
- GravyTrain6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3 I think i'm catching your sarcasm. And not only did they hold back information that could have been nice to see, they chose to even shorten several words (pics, auds, crix, etc)
- mrmcbastard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I unfortunately funded Flyboys. It had potential, but fell far short of being anything good.
I would still like to see a good World War I fighter pilot flick, though. - f0dder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The black sidekick in a WWI flick makes it authentic.
