- llamarama7, on 10/07/2008, -6/+54The Bill Pullman "Independence Day" speech was clearly an oversight.
- malechite, on 10/07/2008, -2/+32I read the headline and immediately though of independence day actually, I really liked that part.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -2/+28*sigh* Martin Sheen was the best president we never had. Why do they have to reopen old wounds like that?
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -2/+25Seriously, they're criticizing him for being overly patriotic? Sometimes that blind nationalism is uncalled for, but I think in an alien invasion, it's acceptable to say we're gonna put our red, white and blue boots up their alien asses.
- Battlecry, on 10/08/2008, -2/+22To be honest, I still get goosebumps when I hear that speech.
- tkcom, on 10/08/2008, -0/+13Again, no Morgan Freeman.
- noahgelman, on 10/08/2008, -1/+12That's what I thought too. No matter what you think of the movie, that speech was epic IMO
- Riocoool, on 10/08/2008, -1/+11what about President David Palmer in 24, played by Dennis Haysbert?
- LeeCarvallo, on 10/08/2008, -2/+12Goosebumps? I tear up a little bit.
- supernuke, on 10/08/2008, -2/+10This speech was so good it was in my english book as an example of brilliant rhetoric, Classic!
- soupdawg30, on 10/08/2008, -3/+11Bill Pullman should be best.
- zacharytelschow, on 10/08/2008, -0/+8"Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. 'Mankind.' That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: 'We will not go quietly into the night!' We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!"

- zerton, on 10/08/2008, -0/+6Remember in Armageddon
"enough of this anomaly horse *****!"
I don't know why I remember that. - DJafrodijiak, on 10/08/2008, -0/+5I've been saying for years.. you KNOW you've got bad leadership when the president's speech from independence day is better than anything ours has ever said.
Eagle one, fox 2! - Zihuatanejo, on 10/08/2008, -0/+5Dave: Oh ***** I'm having a stroke. I'm dead now.
- Moegopher, on 10/08/2008, -0/+5Deep Impact should be somewhere on that list.

- zarvensha, on 10/08/2008, -1/+4The inspirational speech from "The American President" closely followed by Aaron Sorkin's follow up work on the "West Wing"
Inspirational speeches that make you believe that we can improve the world for all, that we can turn the tide on poverty, hopelessness, crime, drugs, failing educational and health systems.
That we can look to a brighter future for our children and our children's children, looking forward to a day when peace and prosperity are within reach of every man, woman and child on this planet.
Wonder what speeches like that would be like in the real world...... - MrsButtersworth, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2"Pop culture loving culture"? Yikes.
- lemercier, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2I'm not having any probs with the link. Its definitely still up:
http://blogs.laweekly.com/ladaily/hollywood/the-be ... - CdnPhoto, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2In my opinion, the best monologue I've seen on TV. Excellent writing, acting, editing and shooting. I miss Jeb Bartlet.
- yacks, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1Not much of a speech but more of a Presidential Exchange.. Alan Alda was President....
Keep in mind this was filmed in 1995 ;)
What are we going to do for an enemy now?

I think Bush watched this movie.. :D - anarchyinthekr, on 10/08/2008, -1/+2dave chappelle deep impact speech?
- swmbuk, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1Yeah I read it and immediately thought it would be in there.
- Suneet67, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1No one has anything on Aaron Sorkin--the greatest political speech writer that never was:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQWxgnFc1fk - inactive, on 09/17/2009, -0/+1I watched that movie back in high school. I would love to watch it all over again.
- EXElotus, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1I won't bury it but I won't digg it either. Bill Pullman was robbed. And seriously, no 24 David Palmer speech?
- inactive, on 09/17/2009, -0/+1Quick question, what's the best speech George Bush ever made in the mass-loaded vinyl walls of the White House Press Conference room - this one http://www.soundisolationstore.com/
- EXElotus, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1I just shed a tear right there. (puts on Independence Day)
- ZenMojo, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1Once again people misunderstand Gaius Baltar. Sure, he's self-serving, but he does have flashes of courage and conviction, and the fact of the matter is Gaius would have gotten everyone killed if he told the Cylons to ***** themselves. Could you imagine if Roslin was president? Humanity would be a scorchmark in the ground. She's a tyrant and a nutjob.
- Quixotic7, on 10/08/2008, -0/+0Dugg for Gaius Baltar
- Coreyc150, on 10/08/2008, -2/+2good morning... (turns mic on) "Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. ~Fixed - WestEast, on 10/08/2008, -0/+0These only work with video to said speeches.
- Jimbeeer, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1Who the hell's Bull Pullman? Is that Bill's evil twin brother?
- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1the die hard 4 mashup of speeches was awesome. sadly, it was the only awesome thing for that movie.
- djm19, on 10/09/2008, -0/+0The Pullman speech was the corniest ***** I ever heard.
- llamasnotsheep, on 10/08/2008, -0/+0Damn, link went down fast!
- mystic8877, on 01/05/2009, -0/+0The whole reason that I came across this article was because I was watching ID4 on TV. When it got to the speech, I suddenly thought, this has got to be the best presidential speech ever and I did a search to see if anyone else agreed. This is a great speech and the thought that it is "too" American totally misses the point of the movie. It's not called, "Bastille Day." The title is "Independence day." the title, the speech... it just fits. The swelling inspirational music that goes with the speech helps too, of course. : )
- thirtyhelens, on 10/09/2008, -0/+0Edit took out the "...erm, culture" original version, hence neutralizing what was intended to be humorous.
Anything else that was intended to be humorous is in there. ;) Whether or not it's deemed so is subjective. - papadopus, on 10/08/2008, -2/+1sites down already?
seriously wtf - palehorse864, on 10/08/2008, -2/+1Best speech ever.
I'm the president of this great United States of America!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trmPZScztok&feature ... - ubenjammin2, on 10/08/2008, -4/+2I have no idea how you could think that the Independence Day speech is one of the worst ever! I would like to know where they would turn for inspiration in the midst of an alien attack.
